1 Better a dry crust with peace than a house full of feasting with strife.	1 Meglio un tozzo di pan secco in pace, che una casa piena di banchetti e di discordie.
2 An intelligent servant will rule over a worthless son, and will share the inheritance with the brothers.	2 Un servo saggio comanderà ai figli stolti, e dividerà l'eredità tra i fratelli.
3 The crucible for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the tester of hearts is the LORD.	3 Come si prova, l'argento col fuoco e l'oro col crogiolo, così il Signore prova i cuori.
4 The evil man gives heed to wicked lips, and listens to falsehood from a mischievous tongue.	4 Il malvagio obbedisce alla lingua iniqua, l'ingannatore dà retta a labbra menzognere.
5 He who mocks the poor blasphemes his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.	5 Chi disprezza il povero ne insulta il Creatore, e chi si rallegra dell'altrui rovina non rimarrà impunito.
6 Grandchildren are the crown of old men, and the glory of children is their parentage.	6 I figlioli dei figli son la corona dei vecchi, e i padri son la gloria dei figli.
7 Fine words are out of place in a fool; how much more, lying words in a noble!	7 Non s'addice allo stolto il parlare sentenzioso, nè al principe un labbro menzognero.
8 A man who has a bribe to offer rates it a magic stone; at every turn it brings him success.	8 L'aspettativa d'un dono è gemma carissima, da qualunque lato si volge agisce con prudente intelligenza.
9 He who covers up a misdeed fosters friendship, but he who gossips about it separates friends.	9 Chi cela i falli s'acquista amicizie, chi li dice e li ridice mette discordie tra gli amici.
10 A single reprimand does more for a man of intelligence than a hundred lashes for a fool.	10 Fa più una correzione all'uomo prudente che cento colpi all'insensato.
11 On rebellion alone is the wicked man bent, but a merciless messenger will be sent against him.	11 Il malvagio cerca sempre litigi; ma l'angelo crudele sarà spedito contro di lui.
12 Face a bear robbed of her cubs, but never a fool in his folly!	12 E' meglio imbattersi in un'orsa a cui siano stati rapiti gli orsacchiotti, che incontrarsi con un insensato, il quale confida nella sua follia.
13 If a man returns evil for good, from his house evil will not depart.	13 Chi rende mah? per il bene non vedrà mai partire da casa sua la sventura.
14 The start of strife is like the opening of a dam; therefore, check a quarrel before it begins!	14 Chi dà la stura alle acque comincia una contesa, avanti di patir dànno tronca la lite.
15 He who condones the wicked, he who condemns the just, are both an abomination to the LORD.	15 Chi assolve il reo e chi condanna l'innocente, tutt'e due sono abbominevoli davanti a Dio.
16 Of what use in the fool's hand are the means to buy wisdom, since he has no mind for it?	16 Che giova allo stolto avere ricchezze, se non può comprare la sapienza? Chi fa molto alta la sua casa cerca la rovina, chi ricusa d'imparare cadrà in guai.
17 He who is a friend is always a friend, and a brother is born for the time of stress.	17 L'amico vuole bene in ogni tempo, e il fratello si prova nelle afflizioni.
18 Senseless is the man who gives his hand in pledge, who becomes surety for his neighbor.	18 Un uomo insensato batterà le mani quando è restato mallevadore per un suo amico.
19 He who loves strife loves guilt; he who builds his gate high courts disaster.	19 Chi medita discordie ama le risse, e chi alza molto la sua porta cerca la rovina.
20 He who is perverse in heart finds no good, and a double-tongued man falls into trouble.	20 Chi è perverso di cuore non avrà bene, e chi è doppio di lingua cadrà in guai.
21 To be a fool's parent is grief for a man; the father of a numskull has no joy.	21 Lo stolto è nato per sua ignominia, ma nemmeno il padre ci troverà consolazione.
22 A joyful heart is the health of the body, but a depressed spirit dries up the bones.	22 L'animo allegro rende l'età florida; lo spirito malinconico secca le ossa.

24 The man of intelligence fixes his gaze on wisdom, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.	24 Sulla faccia dell'uomo prudente brilla la sapienza, ma gli occhi dello stolto van fino ai confini del mondo.
25 A foolish son is vexation to his father, and bitter sorrow to her who bore him.	25 Il figlio stolto è lo sdegno del padre e il dolore della madre che lo ha generato.
26 It is wrong to fine an innocent man, but beyond reason to scourge princes.	26 Non sta bene danneggiare il giusto, nè percuotere il principe che giudica rettamente.
27 He who spares his words is truly wise, and he who is chary of speech is a man of intelligence.	27 Chi modera le sue parole è dotto e prudente, e l'uomo saggio è di spirito riservato.
28 Even a fool, if he keeps silent, is considered wise; if he closes his lips, intelligent.	28 Anche lo stolto, se tace, sarà stimato sapiente, e intelligente, se terrà chiuse le labbra.
