1 Wisdom builds her house, but Folly tears hers down with her own hands.	1 La donna saggia edifica la sua casa; la stolta distrugge colle sue mani quella, che era già edificata.
2 He who walks uprightly fears the LORD, but he who is devious in his ways spurns him.	2 Chi cammina per la via retta, e teme Dio, è disprezzato da chi batte la strada dell'ignominia.
3 In the mouth of the fool is a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise preserve them.	3 La bocca dello stolto è verga di superbia; ma le labbra dei saggi sono la loro sicurezza.
4 Where there are no oxen, the crib remains empty; but large crops come through the strength of the bull.	4 Dove mancano i bovi, è vuota la mangiatoja; dove sono le grasce in gran copia, ivi si riconosce la forza de' bovi.
5 A truthful witness does not lie, but a false witness utters lies.	5 Il testimone fedele non dirà menzogna, ma il falso testimone vomiterà menzogne.
6 The senseless man seeks in vain for wisdom, but knowledge is easy to the man of intelligence.	6 Il derisore cerca la sapienza, e non la trova: i prudenti si istruiscono agevolmente.
7 To avoid the foolish man, take steps! But knowing lips one meets with by surprise.	7 Cammina al contrario dello stolto: egli non conosce i dettami della prudenza.
8 The shrewd man's wisdom gives him knowledge of his way, but the folly of fools is their deception.	8 La saggezza dell'uom prudente sta in conoscere la sua strada: l'imprudenza degli stolti li mena fuori di strada.
9 Guilt lodges in the tents of the arrogant, but favor in the house of the just.	9 Lo stolto si burlerà del peccato: ma la grazia avrà sua stanza trai giusti.
10 The heart knows its own bitterness, and in its joy no one else shares.	10 Il cuore (di ciascheduno) conosce l'afflizione dell'anima sua; e il gaudio di lui noi penetrerà un estraneo.
11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.	11 La casa degli empj sarà spiantata: ma i padiglioni de'giusti saranno floridi.
12 Sometimes a way seems right to a man, but the end of it leads to death!	12 Havvi una strada, che all'uomo sembra diritta; ma la sua fine mena a morte.
13 Even in laughter the heart may be sad, and the end of joy may be sorrow.	13 Il riso sarà mescolato col dolore: e il pianto succederà all'allegrezza.
14 The scoundrel suffers the consequences of his ways, and the good man reaps the fruit of his paths.	14 Lo stolto si pascerà del suo modo di vivere: ma l'uomo dabbene sta meglio di lui.
15 The simpleton believes everything, but the shrewd man measures his steps.	15 L'uom senza sperienza credè ad ogni parola: ma l'uomo cauto bada, dove mettere i piedi. Il figliuolo, che non ha sincerità, non avrà bene: riusciranno felicemente le cose sue al servo prudente, e le sue vie saranno felici.
16 The wise man is cautious and shuns evil; the fool is reckless and sure of himself.	16 Il saggio teme, e schiva il male: lo stolto va avanti, e non ha paura.
17 The quick-tempered man makes a fool of himself, but the prudent man is at peace.	17 L'uomo impaziente agirà da stolto: l'uomo tìnto diventa odioso.
18 The adornment of simpletons is folly, but shrewd men gain the crown of knowledge.	18 Gli imprudenti avranno per loro retaggio la stoltezza, e i prudenti saran coronati di scienza.
19 Evil men must bow down before the good, and the wicked, at the gates of the just.	19 Giaceranno i cattivi ai piedi de' buoni: e gli empj dinanzi alle porte de' giusti.
20 Even by his neighbor the poor man is hated, but the friends of the rich are many.	20 Il povero è avuto a noia anche da' suoi prossimi: i ricchi hanno molti amici.
21 He sins who despises the hungry; but happy is he who is kind to the poor!	21 Pecca chi disprezza il suo prossimo: e chi ha misericordia del povero, sarà beato. Chi crede nel Signore ama la misericordia.
22 Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those intent on good gain kindness and constancy.	22 Sono in errore quelli, che fanno il male: la misericordia, e la verità pre parano i beni.
23 In all labor there is profit, but mere talk tends only to penury.	23 Dovunque si lavora, ivi sarà l'abbondanza: dove molto si parla, vi sarà l'indigenza.
24 The crown of the wise is resourcefulness; the diadem of fools is folly.	24 Corona de'saggj son le loro ric chezze: la stoltezza resta agli stolti.
25 The truthful witness saves lives, but he who utters lies is a betrayer.	25 Il testimone fedele è liberatore degli uomini; il furbo spaccia menzogne.
26 In the fear of the LORD is a strong defense; even for one's children he will be a refuge.	26 Nel timor del Signore trovasi fiducia costante; e i figliuoli di lui conser veranno speranza.
27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, that a man may avoid the snares of death.	27 Il timor del Signore sorgente di vita: ei fa, che si schivino le rovine mortali.
28 In many subjects lies the glory of the king; but if his people are few, it is the prince's ruin.	28 La dignità del re sta nella moltitudine del popolo: ed è disonore del principe la scarsezza dei sudditi.
29 The patient man shows much good sense, but the quick-tempered man displays folly at its height.	29 Chi è paziente si governa con molta prudenza: ma l'impaziente fa manifesta la sua stoltezza.
30 A tranquil mind gives life to the body, but jealousy rots the bones.	30 La sanità del cuore da vita alla carne: l'invidia è tarlo delle ossa.
31 He who oppresses the poor blasphemes his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy glorifies him.	31 Chi opprime il mendico, fa contumelia al suo Creatore: ma a lui rende onore, chi ha compassione del povero.
32 The wicked man is overthrown by his wickedness, but the just man finds a refuge in his honesty.	32 La sua malizia darà all'empio la spinta: ma il giusto nella sua morte ha speranza;
33 In the heart of the intelligent wisdom abides, but in the bosom of fools it is unknown.	33 Nel cuore dell'uom prudente abita la sapienza, ed egli illuminerà qualunque ignorante.
34 Virtue exalts a nation, but sin is a people's disgrace.	34 La giustizia fa grande una nazione: ma il peccato fa infelici i popoli.
35 The king favors the intelligent servant, but the worthless one incurs his wrath.	35 Il ministro intelligente è grato al re: quello, che non è buono a nulla, proverà il suo sdegno.
