For the leader; al Jeduthun. A psalm of Asaph.1 [For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Of Asaph Psalm] I cry to God in distress, I cry to God and he hearsme.
I cry aloud to God, cry to God to hear me.2 In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; al night I tirelessly stretched out my hands, my heartrefused to be consoled.
On the day of my distress I seek the Lord; by night my hands are raised unceasingly; I refuse to be consoled.3 I sigh as I think of God, my spirit faints away as I ponder on him. Pause
When I think of God, I groan; as I ponder, my spirit grows faint. Selah4 You kept me from closing my eyes, I was too distraught to speak;
My eyes cannot close in sleep; I am troubled and cannot speak.5 I thought of former times, years long past
I consider the days of old; the years long past6 I recalled; through the night I ponder in my heart, as I reflect, my spirit asks this question:
I remember. In the night I meditate in my heart; I ponder and my spirit broods:7 Is the Lord's rejection final? Will he never show favour again?
"Will the Lord reject us forever, never again show favor?8 Is his faithful love gone for ever? Has his Word come to an end for al time?
Has God's love ceased forever? Has the promise failed for all ages?9 Does God forget to show mercy? In anger does he shut off his tenderness?Pause
Has God forgotten mercy, in anger withheld compassion?" Selah10 And I said, 'This is what wounds me, the right hand of the Most High has lost its strength.'
I conclude: "My sorrow is this, the right hand of the Most High has left us."11 Remembering Yahweh's great deeds, remembering your wonders in the past,
I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, your wonders of old I will remember.12 I reflect on al that you did, I ponder all your great deeds.
I will recite all your works; your exploits I will tell.13 God, your ways are holy! What god is as great as our God?
Your way, O God, is holy; what god is as great as our God?14 You are the God who does marvel ous deeds, brought nations to acknowledge your power,
You alone are the God who did wonders; among the peoples you revealed your might.15 with your own arm redeeming your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph.Pause
With your arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah16 When the waters saw you, God, when the waters saw you they writhed in anguish, the very depthsshook with fear.
The waters saw you, God; the waters saw you and lashed about, trembled even to their depths.17 The clouds pelted down water, the sky thundered, your arrows shot back and forth.
The clouds poured down their rains; the thunderheads rumbled; your arrows flashed back and forth.18 The rol ing of your thunder was heard, your lightning-flashes lit up the world, the earth shuddered andshook.
The thunder of your chariot wheels resounded; your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.19 Your way led over the sea, your path over the countless waters, and none could trace your footsteps.
Through the sea was your path; your way, through the mighty waters, though your footsteps were unseen.20 You guided your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
You led your people like a flock under the care of Moses and Aaron.
