For the leader; al Jeduthun. A psalm of Asaph.1 Unto the end, for Idithun, a psalm of Asaph.
I cry aloud to God, cry to God to hear me.2 I cried to the Lord with my voice; to God with my voice, and he gave ear to me.
On the day of my distress I seek the Lord; by night my hands are raised unceasingly; I refuse to be consoled.3 In the day of my trouble I sought God, with my hands lifted up to him in the night, and I was not deceived. My soul refused to be comforted:
When I think of God, I groan; as I ponder, my spirit grows faint. Selah4 I remembered God, and was delighted, and was exercised, and my spirit swooned away.
My eyes cannot close in sleep; I am troubled and cannot speak.5 My eyes prevented the watches: I was troubled, and I spoke not.
I consider the days of old; the years long past6 I thought upon the days of old: and I had in my mind the eternal years.
I remember. In the night I meditate in my heart; I ponder and my spirit broods:7 And I meditated in the night with my own heart: and I was exercised and I swept my spirit.
"Will the Lord reject us forever, never again show favor?8 Will God then cast off for ever? or will he never be more favourable again?
Has God's love ceased forever? Has the promise failed for all ages?9 Or will he cut off his mercy for ever, from generation to generation?
Has God forgotten mercy, in anger withheld compassion?" Selah10 Or will God forget to shew mercy? or will he in his anger shut up his mercies?
I conclude: "My sorrow is this, the right hand of the Most High has left us."11 And I said, Now have I begun: this is the change of the right hand of the most High.
I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, your wonders of old I will remember.12 I remembered the works of the Lord: for I will be mindful of thy wonders from the beginning.
I will recite all your works; your exploits I will tell.13 And I will meditate on all thy works: and will be employed in thy inventions.
Your way, O God, is holy; what god is as great as our God?14 Thy way, O God, is in the holy place: who is the great God like our God?
You alone are the God who did wonders; among the peoples you revealed your might.15 Thou art the God that dost wonders. Thou hast made thy power known among the nations:
With your arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah16 with thy arm thou hast redeemed thy people the children of Jacob and of Joseph.
The waters saw you, God; the waters saw you and lashed about, trembled even to their depths.17 The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee: and they were afraid, and the depths were troubled.
The clouds poured down their rains; the thunderheads rumbled; your arrows flashed back and forth.18 Great was the noise of the waters: the clouds sent out a sound. For thy arrows pass:
The thunder of your chariot wheels resounded; your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.19 the voice of thy thunder in a wheel. Thy lightnings enlightened the world: the earth shook and trembled.
Through the sea was your path; your way, through the mighty waters, though your footsteps were unseen.20 Thy way is in the sea, and thy paths in many waters: and thy footsteps shall not be known.
You led your people like a flock under the care of Moses and Aaron.21 Thou hast conducted thy people like sheep, by the hand of Moses and Aaron
