Psalms 140

1 For the leader. A psalm of David.	1 Magistro chori. Psalmus. David.
2 Deliver me, LORD, from the wicked; preserve me from the violent,	2 Eripe me, Domine, ab homine malo, a viro violentiae serva me.
3 From those who plan evil in their hearts, who stir up conflicts every day,	3 Qui cogitaverunt mala in corde, tota die constituebant proelia.
4 Who sharpen their tongues like serpents, venom of asps upon their lips. Selah	4 Acuerunt linguas suas sicut serpentis, venenum aspidum sub labiis eorum.
5 Keep me, LORD, from the clutches of the wicked; preserve me from the violent, who plot to trip me up.	5 Custodi me, Domine, de manu peccatoris et a viro violentiae serva me, qui cogitaverunt supplantare gressus meos.
6 The arrogant have set a trap for me; villains have spread a net, laid snares for me by the wayside. Selah	6 Absconderunt superbi laqueum mihi et funes extenderunt in rete, iuxta iter offendicula posuerunt mihi.
7 I say to the LORD: You are my God; listen, LORD, to the words of my prayer.	7 Dixi Domino: “ Deus meus es tu; auribus percipe, Domine, vocem deprecationis meae ”.
8 My revered LORD, my strong helper, my helmet on the day of battle.	8 Domine, Domine, virtus salutis meae, obumbrasti caput meum in die belli.
9 LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked; do not let their plots succeed. Selah	9 Ne concedas, Domine, desideria impii; consilia eius ne perficias. Exaltant
10 Around me they raise their proud heads; may the mischief they threaten overwhelm them.	10 caput, qui circumdant me; malitia labiorum ipsorum operiat eos.
11 May God rain burning coals upon them, cast them into the grave never more to rise.	11 Cadant super eos carbones ignis, in foveas deicias eos, et non exsurgant.
12 Slanderers will not survive on earth; evil will quickly entrap the violent.	12 Vir linguosus non firmabitur in terra, virum violentiae mala capient in interitu.
13 For I know the LORD will secure justice for the needy, their rights for the poor.	13 Cognovi quia faciet Dominus iudicium inopis et vindictam pauperum.
14 Then the just will give thanks to your name; the upright will dwell in your presence.	14 Verumtamen iusti confitebuntur nomini tuo, et habitabunt recti in conspectu tuo.
