Psalms 140

1 For the leader. A psalm of David.	1 [For the choirmaster Psalm Of David] Rescue me, Yahweh, from evil men, protect me from violentmen,
2 Deliver me, LORD, from the wicked; preserve me from the violent,	2 whose heart is bent on malice, day after day they harbour strife;
3 From those who plan evil in their hearts, who stir up conflicts every day,	3 their tongues as barbed as a serpent's, viper's venom behind their lips.Pause
4 Who sharpen their tongues like serpents, venom of asps upon their lips. Selah	4 Keep me, Yahweh, from the clutches of the wicked, protect me from violent men, who are bent onmaking me stumble,laying out snares where I walk,
5 Keep me, LORD, from the clutches of the wicked; preserve me from the violent, who plot to trip me up.	5 in their arrogance hiding pitfal and nooseto trap me as I pass.Pause
6 The arrogant have set a trap for me; villains have spread a net, laid snares for me by the wayside. Selah	6 I said to Yahweh, 'You are my God.' Listen, Yahweh, to the sound of my prayer.
7 I say to the LORD: You are my God; listen, LORD, to the words of my prayer.	7 Yahweh my Lord, my saving strength, you shield my head when battle comes.
8 My revered LORD, my strong helper, my helmet on the day of battle.	8 Yahweh, do not grant the wicked their wishes, do not let their plots succeed.Pause Do not let myattackers
9 LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked; do not let their plots succeed. Selah	9 prevail, but let them be overwhelmed by their own malice.
10 Around me they raise their proud heads; may the mischief they threaten overwhelm them.	10 May red-hot embers rain down on them, may they be flung into the mire once and for all.
11 May God rain burning coals upon them, cast them into the grave never more to rise.	11 May the slanderer find no rest anywhere, may evil hunt down violent men implacably.
12 Slanderers will not survive on earth; evil will quickly entrap the violent.	12 I know that Yahweh wil give judgement for the wretched, justice for the needy.
13 For I know the LORD will secure justice for the needy, their rights for the poor.	13 The upright shal praise your name, the honest dwel in your presence.
14 Then the just will give thanks to your name; the upright will dwell in your presence.
