1 These are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom).	1 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.
2 Esau took his wives from among the Canaanite women: Adah, daughter of Elon the Hittite; Oholibamah, granddaughter through Anah of Zibeon the Hivite;	2 Esau took wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite,
3 and Basemath, daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.	3 and Basemath, the daughter of Ishmael, sister of Nebaioth.
4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau; Basemath bore Reuel;	4 Then Adah bore Eliphaz. Basemath conceived Reuel.
5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan.	5 Oholibamah conceived Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan.
6 Esau took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock comprising various animals and all the property he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to the land of Seir, out of the way of his brother Jacob.	6 Then Esau took his wives, and sons, and daughters, and every soul of his house, and his substance, and cattle, and whatever he was able to obtain in the land of Canaan, and he went into another region, withdrawing from his brother Jacob.
7 Their possessions had become too great for them to dwell together, and the land in which they were staying could not support them because of their livestock.	7 For they were very wealthy and were not able to live together. Neither was the land of their sojourn able to sustain them, because of the multitude of their flocks.
8 So Esau settled in the highlands of Seir. (Esau is Edom.)	8 And Esau lived at mount Seir: he is Edom.
9 These are the descendants of Esau, ancestor of the Edomites, in the highlands of Seir.	9 So these are the generations of Esau, the father of Edom, at mount Seir,
10 These are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz, son of Esau's wife Adah; and Reuel, son of Esau's wife Basemath.	10 and these are the names of his sons: Eliphaz the son of Adah, the wife of Esau, likewise Reuel, the son of Basemath, his wife.
11 The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.	11 And Eliphaz had sons: Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenez.
12 (Esau's son Eliphaz had a concubine Timna, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz.) These are the descendants of Esau's wife Adah.	12 Now Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, the son of Esau. And she bore him Amalek. These are the sons of Adah, the wife of Esau.
13 The sons of Reuel were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the descendants of Esau's wife Basemath.	13 And the sons of Reuel were Nahath and Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These are the sons of Basemath, the wife of Esau.
14 The descendants of Esau's wife Oholibamah--granddaughter through Anah of Zibeon--whom she bore to Esau were Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.	14 Likewise, these were the sons of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, the wife of Esau, whom she bore to him: Jeush, and Jalam, and Korah.
15 The following are the clans of Esau's descendants. The descendants of Eliphaz, Esau's first-born: the clans of Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,	15 These were leaders of the sons of Esau, the sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn of Esau: leader Teman, leader Omar, leader Zepho, leader Kenez,
16 Korah, Gatam, and Amalek. These are the clans of Eliphaz in the land of Edom; they are descended from Adah.	16 leader Korah, leader Gatam, leader Amalek. These are the sons of Eliphaz, in the land of Edom, and these the sons of Adah.
17 The descendants of Esau's son Reuel: the clans of Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the clans of Reuel in the land of Edom; they are descended from Esau's wife Basemath.	17 Likewise, these are the sons of Reuel, the son of Esau: leader Nahath, leader Zerah, leader Shammah, leader Mizzah. And these were the leaders of Reuel, in the land of Edom. These are the sons of Basemath, the wife of Esau.
18 The descendants of Esau's wife Oholibamah: the clans of Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the clans of Esau's wife Oholibamah, daughter of Anah.	18 Now these are the sons of Oholibamah, the wife of Esau: leader Jeush, leader Jalam, leader Korah. These were the leaders of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah and the wife of Esau.
19 Such are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom) according to their clans.	19 These are the sons of Esau, and these were their leaders: this is Edom.
20 The following are the descendants of Seir the Horite, the original settlers in the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,	20 These are the sons of Seir, the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah,
21 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; they are the Horite clans descended from Seir, in the land of Edom.	21 and Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan. These were the leaders of the Horites, the sons of Seir, in the land of Edom.
22 Lotan's descendants were Hori and Hemam, and Lotan's sister was Timna.	22 Now Lotan produced sons: Hori and Heman. But the sister of Lotan was Timna.
23 Shobal's descendants were Alvan, Mahanath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.	23 And these are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, and Shepho, and Onam.
24 Zibeon's descendants were Aiah and Anah. (He is the Anah who found water in the desert while he was pasturing the asses of his father Zibeon.)	24 And these are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness, when he was pasturing the donkeys of his father Zibeon.
25 The descendants of Anah were Dishon and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah.	25 And he had a son Dishon, and a daughter Oholibamah.
26 The descendants of Dishon were Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.	26 And these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, and Esheban, and Ithran, and Cheran.
27 The descendants of Ezer were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan.	27 Likewise, these are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan.
28 The descendants of Dishan were Uz and Aran.	28 Then Dishan had sons: Uz and Aran.
29 These are the Horite clans: the clans of Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,	29 These were the leaders of the Horites: leader Lotan, leader Shobal, leader Zibeon, leader Anah,
30 Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; they were the clans of the Horites, clan by clan, in the land of Seir.	30 leader Dishon, leader Ezer, leader Disan. These were leaders of the Horites who ruled in the land of Seir.
31 The following are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the Israelites.	31 Now before the sons of Israel had a king, the kings who ruled in the land of Edom were these:
32 Bela, son of Beor, became king in Edom; the name of his city was Dinhabah.	32 Bela the son of Beor, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.
33 When Bela died, Jobab, son of Zerah, from Bozrah, succeeded him as king.	33 Then Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah, reigned in his place.
34 When Jobab died, Husham, from the land of the Temanites, succeeded him as king. He defeated the Midianites in the country of Moab; the name of his city was Avith.	34 And when Jobab was dead, Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his place.
35 When Husham died, Hadad, son of Bedad, succeeded him as king.	35 Likewise, this one having died, Hadad the son of Bedad reigned in his place. He struck down Midian in the region of Moab. And the name of his city was Avith.
36 When Hadad died, Samlah, from Masrekah, succeeded him as king.	36 And when Adad was dead, Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place.
37 When Samlah died, Shaul, from Rehoboth-on-the-River, succeeded him as king.	37 Likewise, this one being dead, Shaul of the river Rehoboth, reigned in his place.
38 When Shaul died, Baal-hanan, son of Achbor, succeeded him as king.	38 And when he also had passed away, Baal-hanan, the son of Achbor, succeeded to the kingdom.
39 When Baal-hanan died, Hadar succeeded him as king; the name of his city was Pau. (His wife's name was Mehetabel; she was the daughter of Matred, son of Mezahab.)	39 Likewise, this one being dead, Hadar reigned in his place; and the name of his city was Pau. And his wife was called Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab.
40 The following are the names of the clans of Esau individually according to their subdivisions and localities: the clans of Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,	40 Therefore, these were the names of the leaders of Esau, by their families, and places, and in their vocabulary: leader Timna, leader Alvah, leader Jetheth,
41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,	41 leader Oholibamah, leader Elah, leader Pinon,
42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,	42 leader Kanez, leader Teman, leader Mibzar,
43 Magdiel, and Iram. These are the clans of the Edomites, according to their settlements in their territorial holdings. (Esau was the father of the Edomites.)	43 leader Magdiel, leader Iram. These were the leaders of Edom living in the land of their rule: this is Esau, the father of Idumea.
