1 La saggezza dell'umile lo innalzerà, e farallo sedere nel consesso de' magnati.	1 The poor man's wisdom lifts his head high and sets him among princes.
2 Non lodare un uomo per la sua avvenenza, e non disprezzare alcuno per quel, che di lui apparisce:	2 Praise not a man for his looks; despise not a man for his appearance.
3 Piccola cosa trai volatili è l'ape, ma il suo frutto ogni dolcezza sorpassa.	3 Least is the bee among winged things, but she reaps the choicest of all harvests.
4 Non ti gloriare delle vestimenta, e non ti invanire quando sarai innalzato agli onori; perocché solo dell'Altissimo son mirabili le opere; e le opere di lui sono gloriose, e segrete, e non conosciute.	4 Mock not the worn cloak and jibe at no man's bitter day: For strange are the works of the LORD, hidden from men his deeds.
5 Sederono in trono molti tiranni: e tal portò il diadema, a cui nissuno pensava.	5 The oppressed often rise to a throne, and some that none would consider wear a crown.
6 Molti potenti caddero in grande oppressione; e i magnati furon dati in potere altrui.	6 The exalted often fall into utter disgrace; the honored are given into enemy hands.
7 Non biasimare nissuno prima di informarti; e quando sarai informato, riprenderai con giustizia.	7 Before investigating, find no fault; examine first, then criticize.
8 Non risponder parola prima di aver sentito; e non interrompere l'altrui discorso.	8 Before hearing, answer not, and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.
9 Non contendere per cosa, che nulla a te importa; e non unirti a giudicare con quei, che peccano.	9 Dispute not about what is not your concern; in the strife of the arrogant take no part.
10 Figliuolo non impicciarti in molte cose; perocché se diverai ricco, non sarai esente da colpa. E andando dietro (a molte cose) non verrai a capo di alcuna; e qualunque diligenza tu facci, non potrai trarti fuora.	10 My son, why increase your cares, since he who is avid for wealth will not be blameless? Even if you run after it, you will never overtake it; however you seek it, you will not find it.
11 Taluno si affanna, e si da da fare, e patisce, essendo privo di pietà, e tanto meno arricchisce:	11 One may toil and struggle and drive, and fall short all the more.
12 Tal altro è languido, e bisognoso di ajuto, e privo di forze, e ricco di miseria:	12 Another goes his way a weakling and a failure, with little strength and great misery-- Yet the eyes of the LORD look favorably upon him; he raises him free of the vile dust,
13 E l'occhio di Dio mira costui benignamente, e lo solleva dal suo abbattimento, e gli fa alzare la testa, e molti ne restano ammirati, e a Dio ne rendono onore.	13 Lifts up his head and exalts him to the amazement of the many.
14 I beni, e i mali, la vita, e la morte, la povertà, e la ricchezza vengon da Dio.	14 Good and evil, life and death, poverty and riches, are from the LORD.
15 La sapienza, e la disciplina, e la scienza della legge sono da Dio: la carità, e le opere de' buoni sono da lui.	15 Wisdom and understanding and knowledge of affairs, love and virtuous paths are from the LORD.
16 L'errore, e le tenebre sono ingenite ai peccatori: e quelli, che esultano nel male, invecchiano nella malizia.	16 Error and darkness were formed with sinners from their birth, and evil grows old with evildoers.
17 Il dono di Dio rimane presso de' giusti, e con vantaggiosi progressi anderà crescendo continuamente.	17 The LORD'S gift remains with the just; his favor brings continued success.
18 Taluno si fa ricco colla parsimonia, e questo sol frutto ha per sua mercede,	18 A man may become rich through a miser's life, and this is his allotted reward:
19 Che dice: Io son contento, e adesso mangerò de' miei beni io solo.	19 When he says: "I have found rest, now I will feast on my possessions," He does not know how long it will be till he dies and leaves them to others.
20 Ma egli non sa quanto tempo vi sia, perché la morte si accosti, ed egli lasci ad altri ogni cosa, e si muoja.	20 My son, hold fast to your duty, busy yourself with it, grow old while doing your task.
21 Tienti costante al tuo patto, e sopra di questo ragiona, e invecchia nell'adempiere quel, che ti è comandato.	21 Admire not how sinners live, but trust in the LORD and wait for his light; For it is easy with the LORD suddenly, in an instant, to make a poor man rich.
22 Non ti abbagli il fare de' peccatori; ma confida in Dio, e sta al tuo posto;	22 God's blessing is the lot of the just man, and in due time his hopes bear fruit.
23 Perocché è cosa facile dinanzi a Dio l'arricchire il povero in un momento.	23 Say not: "What do I need? What further pleasure can be mine?"
24 La benedizione di Dio corre a rimunerare il giusto, e in brev'ora fa, che egli cresca, e fruttifichi.	24 Say not: "I am independent. What harm can come to me now?"
25 Non dire: Che ho io da fare? e qual bene omai avrò io?	25 The day of prosperity makes one forget adversity; the day of adversity makes one forget prosperity.
26 Non dire: io basto a me stesso: e qual male può mai venirmi?	26 For it is easy with the LORD on the day of death to repay man according to his deeds.
27 Nel dì felice non ti scordare de' cattivi giorni, e nel giorno cattivo non ti scordare del giorno felice:	27 A moment's affliction brings forgetfulness of past delights; when a man dies, his life is revealed.
28 Ed è cosa facile a Dio il rendere a ciascheduno secondo le opere sue nel dì della morte.	28 Call no man happy before his death, for by how he ends, a man is known.
29 Il male di un'ora fa dimenticare le grandi delizie; perché nella fine dell'uomo si manifestano le sue operazioni.	29 Bring not every man into your house, for many are the snares of the crafty one;
30 Non lodar verun uomo prima della sua morte; perocché l'uomo si riconosce da' suoi figliuoli.	30 Though he seem like a bird confined in a cage, yet like a spy he will pick out the weak spots.
31 Non introdurre in casa tua ogni sorta di persone; perocché molte sono le insidie degli ingannatori;	31 The talebearer turns good into evil; with a spark he sets many coals afire.
32 Perocché come uno stomaco fetido getta dei rutti, e come la pernice è condotta alla gabbia, e il daino al laccio, cosi va la cosa riguardo al cuor del superbo, che osserva come da una vedetta la caduta del suo prossimo.	32 The evil man lies in wait for blood, and plots against your choicest possessions.
33 Perocché egli il bene convertendo in male sta tendendo insidie, e agli eletti stessi apporrà delle macchie.	33 Avoid a wicked man, for he breeds only evil, lest you incur a lasting stain.
34 Da una sola scintilla divampa il fuoco: e un solo ingannatore moltiplica le stragi; perché l'uom peccatore tende a spargere il sangue.	34 Lodge a stranger with you, and he will subvert your course, and make a stranger of you to your own household.
35 Guardati dall'uomo malizioso macchinatore di guai, affinchè egli non abbia a tirarti addosso infamia per petua.
36 Ricevi in tua casa lo straniero, ed egli la metterà sottosopra, e ti rovinerà, e ti spoglierà anche del tuo.
