1 Colui che vuoi ritirarsi dall'amico, cerca pretesti: egli in ogni tempo sarà degno di biasimo.	1 Whoever has a will to withdraw from a friend, seeks occasions; he shall be reproached at all times.
2 Lo stolto non ha genio agli avvertimenti della prudenza, se tu non parli secondo quello, che egli ha in cuore.	2 The foolish do not accept words of prudence, unless you say what is already turning in his heart.
3 L'empio quando è caduto nel profondo dei peccati, non ne fa caso; ma l'ignominia, e l'obbrobrio gli vanno appresso.	3 The impious, when he has arrived within the depths of sin, thinks little of it. But ill repute and disgrace follow him.
4 Le parole, che scorrono dalla bocca del saggio, sono un acqua profonda, e la fontana della sapienza è un torrente, che inonda.	4 Words from the mouth of a man are deep waters. And the fountain of wisdom is a torrent overflowing.
5 Non è buona cosa l'aver riguardo alla persona dell'empio per far torto alla verità nel giudicare.	5 It is not good to accept the character of the impious, so as to turn away from true judgment.
6 Le labbra dello stolto si impacciano nelle risse: e la lingua di lui provoca gli affronti.	6 The lips of the foolish meddle in disputes. And his mouth provokes conflicts.
7 La bocca dello stolto è quella, che lo distrugge: e le tue labbra son la sua rovina.	7 The mouth of the foolish is his destruction, and his own lips are the ruin of his soul.
8 Le parole della lingua doppia paiono la stessa semplicità; ma elle penetrano fin nelle intime viscere. Il timore abbatte il pigro: e le anime degli uomini effeminati patiranno la fame.	8 The words of the double-tongued seem simple. And they reach even to the interior of the gut. Fear casts down the lazy, but the souls of the effeminate shall go hungry.
9 Colui che è molle, ed infingardo nel suo lavoro, è fratello di chi manda in malora tutto quello, che ha fatto.	9 Whoever is dissolute and slack in his work is the brother of him who wastes his own works.
10 Torre fortissima è il nome del Signore: a lei corre il giusto, e sarà in luogo sicuro.	10 The name of the Lord is very strong tower. The just one rushes to it, and he shall be exalted.
11 Le facoltà del ricco sono la sua città forte, e come la stabil muraglia, che lo circonda.	11 The substance of the wealthy is the city of his strength, and it is like a strong wall encircling him.
12 Prima ch'ei sia abbattuto si innalza il cuore dell'uomo, e prima di essere glorificato, egli è umiliato.	12 The heart of a man is exalted before it is crushed and humbled before it is glorified.
13 Chi risponde prima di aver ascoltato, si da a conoscere per istolto, e merita confusione.	13 Whoever responds before he listens, demonstrates himself to be foolish and deserving of confusion.
14 Lo spirito dell'uomo sostiene la sua infermità: ma uno spirito facile all'ira chi potrà sostenerlo?	14 The spirit of a man sustains his weakness. Yet who can sustain a spirit that is easily angered?
15 Il cuore dell'uomo prudente farà acquisto di scienza; e l'orecchio de' saggi cerca la dottrina.	15 A prudent heart shall possess knowledge. And the ear of the wise seeks doctrine.
16 I doni, che fa un uomo aprono a lui la strada, e gli fan largo dinanzi a' principi.	16 A man’s gift expands his way and makes space for him before leaders.
17 Il giusto è il primo ad accusare se stesso: vien (poi) il suo amico, e lo tiene a sindacato.	17 The just is the first accuser of himself; his friend arrives and shall investigate him.
18 La sorte finisce le contese, e decide anche trai grandi.	18 Casting a lot suppresses contentions and passes judgment, even among the powerful.
19 Il fratello aiutato dal fratello, è una forte città: e i giudizi sono come le sbarre delle porte della città.	19 A brother who is helped by a brother is like a reinforced city, and judgments are like the bars of cities.
20 Le viscere dell'uomo si empieranno dei frutti della sua bocca, e dei proventi delle sue labbra sarà egli satollo.	20 From the fruit of a man’s mouth shall his belly be filled. And the harvest of his own lips shall satisfy him.
21 La morte, e la vita è in potere della lingua; e chi ne terrà conto mangerà de' fratti di lei.	21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue. Whoever values it shall eat from its fruits.
22 Chi trova una buona moglie. Ha trovato un bene, e riceverà consolazione dal Signore. Chi ripudia la buona moglie, si togne un bene: e chi tiene un'adultera, è stolto, ed empio.	22 He who has found a good wife has found goodness, and he shall draw contentment from the Lord. He who expels a good wife expels goodness. But he who holds on to an adulteress is foolish and impious.
23 Il povero parla supplicando: e il ricco risponde con durezza.	23 The poor will speak with supplications. And the rich will express themselves roughly.
24 L'uomo amabile nel conversare sarà amico più, che un fratello.	24 A man amiable to society shall be more friendly than a brother.
