Ephesians 4

1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,	1 Je vous le demande, moi, le prisonnier dans le Seigneur: montrez-vous dignes de l’appel que vous avez reçu.
2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;	2 Faites preuve d’humilité, de bonté, d’esprit de compréhension, et supportez-vous les uns les autres avec amour.
3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.	3 Efforcez-vous de garder l’unité de l’esprit grâce au lien de la paix.
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;	4 Qu’il y ait un seul corps et un seul esprit, tout comme vous avez été appelés à une même vocation et espérance:
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,	5 un seul Seigneur, une seule foi, un seul baptême,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.	6 un seul Dieu et Père de tous, qui est au-dessus de tout, et qui fait tout en tous!
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.	7 Chacun de nous a reçu sa grâce, et c’est le Christ qui a fixé à chacun sa mesure.
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.	8 Il est bien dit: Il est monté vers les hauteurs pour y faire des prisonniers, puis il a distribué aux hommes ses dons.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?	9 Il est monté: il s’agit de celui qui était descendu dans les profondeurs de la terre.
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)	10 Celui qui est descendu est aussi monté plus haut que les cieux de façon à remplir tout l’univers.
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;	11 Et quels sont ses dons? Les uns sont apôtres, les autres prophètes, les autres évangélistes, les autres pasteurs et enseignants.
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:	12 C’est ainsi qu’il prépare les saints pour les œuvres de leur ministère, pour la construction du corps du Christ,
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:	13 pour que nous arrivions tous à l’unité dans la foi et la connaissance du Fils de Dieu, pour que nous devenions l’Homme accompli et adulte dans lequel se déploie la plénitude du Christ.
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;	14 Alors nous ne serons plus de petits enfants traînant à la dérive, emportés par le vent, par n’importe quelle doctrine et invention d’hommes astucieux et experts en tromperie.
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:	15 Nous serons dans l’amour et nous serons dans le vrai; nous irons grandissant sans arrêt pour rejoindre celui qui est la tête, le Christ.
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.	16 De lui vient la croissance du corps où tout un réseau établit l’harmonie et donne la fermeté, mettant en valeur et tenant compte des capacités de chacun; et le corps se construit dans l’amour.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,	17 Donc je vous dis, et je vous l’ordonne dans le Seigneur: n’imitez pas la conduite des païens, car ils se laissent mener par des ambitions vaines.
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:	18 Leur esprit n’est que ténèbres; leur conscience s’étant endurcie, ils sont pleins d’ignorance et totalement étrangers à la vie de Dieu.
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.	19 Ils se sont souillés, ils se sont livrés à la débauche, ils recherchent avec frénésie les actions impures qu’ils pourraient commettre.
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;	20 Ce n’est pas pour cela que vous êtes devenus disciples du Christ,
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:	21 car je suppose, c’est de lui qu’on vous a parlé, c’est lui qu’on vous a enseigné, prenant comme vérité ce qui est en Jésus lui-même.
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;	22 Vous devez renoncer à votre ancienne façon de vivre, à cet homme déjà vieux qui se laisse égarer par ses passions et se détruit lui-même.
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;	23 Il s’agit de vous renouveler spirituellement à partir de l’intérieur,
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.	24 et de revêtir l’Homme Nouveau, l’homme selon Dieu, qui est créé dans la vraie droiture et sainteté.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.	25 Renoncez donc au mensonge. Que chacun dise la vérité à son prochain, car nous sommes membres du même corps.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:	26 Mettez-vous en colère mais ne péchez pas: que le soleil ne se couche pas avant votre colère;
27 Neither give place to the devil.	27 car autrement le diable s’y mettrait.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.	28 Si tu étais voleur, ne vole plus, mais travaille avec tes mains et même fatigue-toi pour partager avec celui qui est dans le besoin.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.	29 Que votre bouche ne laisse échapper aucune plaisanterie sale, mais seulement ce qui est bon et qui apporte quelque chose aux autres.
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.	30 N’attristez pas l’Esprit Saint de Dieu qui est votre marque, en vue du jour où Dieu nous prendra avec lui.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:	31 Débarrassez-vous de tout ce qui est mauvais: paroles méchantes, emportements, colère, cris, injures.
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.	32 Traitez-vous avec bonté et compréhension, et pardonnez comme Dieu vous a pardonné dans le Christ.
