Deuteronomy 22

1 Thou shalt not see the brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.	1 Lorsque vous verrez le boeuf ou la brebis de votre frère égarés, vous ne passerez point votre chemin, mais vous les ramènerez à votre frère,
2 And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.	2 quand même il ne serait point votre parent, et ne le connussiez-vous pas: vous les mènerez à votre maison, et ils y demeureront jusqu'à ce que votre frère les cherche et les reçoive de vous.
3 In like manner shalt thou do with his ass; and so shalt thou do with his raiment; and with all lost thing of thy brother's, which he hath lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise: thou mayest not hide thyself.	3 Vous ferez de même à l'égard de l'âne, ou du vêtement, ou de quoi que ce soit que votre frère ait perdu; et quand vous l'aurez trouvé, vous ne le négligerez point sous prétexte que cela ne vous appartient point, mais à un autre.
4 Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.	4 Si vous voyez l'âne ou le boeuf de votre frère tombé dans le chemin, vous ne serez point indifférent, mais vous l'aiderez à se relever.
5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.	5 Une femme ne prendra point un vêtement d'homme, et un homme ne prendra point un vêtement de femme; car celui qui le fait est abominable devant Dieu.
6 If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young:	6 Si, marchant dans un chemin, vous trouvez sur un arbre ou à terre le nid d'un oiseau, et la mère sur ses petits ou sur ses oeufs, vous ne retiendrez point la mère avec ses petits;
7 But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days.	7 mais, ayant pris les petits, vous la laisserez aller, afin que vous soyez heureux, et que vous viviez longtemps.
8 When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence.	8 Lorsque vous aurez bâti une maison neuve, vous ferez un petit mur tout autour du toit; de peur que le sang ne soit répandu dans votre maison, et que, quelqu'un tombant de ce lieu élevé, vous ne soyez coupable de sa mort.
9 Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled.	9 Vous ne sèmerez point d'autre semence dans votre vigne, de peur que la graine que vous aurez semée et ce qui naîtra de la vigne ne se corrompent l'un l'autre.
10 Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.	10 Vous ne labourerez point avec un boeuf et un âne attelés ensemble.
11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together.	11 Vous ne vous revêtirez pas d'un habit qui soit tissé de laine et de lin.
12 Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.	12 Vous ferez avec de petits cordons des franges que vous mettrez aux quatre coins de votre manteau dont vous vous couvrez.
13 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,	13 Si un homme, ayant épousé une femme, en conçoit ensuite de l'aversion,
14 And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid:	14 et que, cherchant un prétexte pour la répudier, il lui impute un crime honteux, en disant: J'ai épousé cette femme; mais m'étant approché d'elle, j'ai reconnu qu'elle n'était pas vierge,
15 Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:	15 son père et sa mère la prendront, et ils présenteront aux anciens de la ville, qui se tiennent à la porte, les preuves de la virginité de leur fille;
16 And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;	16 et le père dira: J'ai donné ma fille à cet homme pour femme; mais, parce qu'il en a maintenant de l'aversion,
17 And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.	17 il lui impute un crime honteux, en disant: Je n'ai pas trouvé que votre fille fût vierge. Et cependant voici les preuves de la virginité de ma fille. Ils présenteront en même temps le linge devant les anciens de la ville;
18 And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;	18 et ces anciens de la ville, prenant cet homme, lui feront souffrir la peine du fouet,
19 And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.	19 et le condamneront de plus à payer cent sicles d'argent, qu'il donnera au père de la jeune fille, parce qu'il a déhonoré par une accusation d'infamie une vierge d'Israël; elle demeurera sa femme, sans qu'il puisse la répudier tant qu'il vivra.
20 But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:	20 Mais si ce qu'il objecte est véritable, et s'il se trouve que la jeune femme, quand il l'épousa, n'était pas vierge,
21 Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.	21 on la chassera hors de la porte de la maison de son père, et les habitants de cette ville la lapideront, et elle mourra, parce qu'elle a commis un crime détestable dans Israël, étant tombée en fornication dans la maison de son père; vous ôterez ainsi le mal du milieu de vous.
22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.	22 Si un homme dort avec la femme d'un autre, ils mourront tous deux, l'homme adultère et la femme adultère; et vous ôterez le mal du milieu d'Israël.
23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;	23 Si, après qu'une jeune fille vierge a été fiancée, quelqu'un la trouve dans la ville et la corrompt,
24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.	24 vous les ferez sortir l'un et l'autre à la porte de la ville, et ils seront tous deux lapidés: la jeune fille, parce qu'étant dans la ville, elle n'a pas crié; et l'homme, parce qu'il a abusé de la femme de son prochain; et vous ôterez le mal du milieu de vous.
25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:	25 Mais si un homme trouve dans un champ une jeune fille qui est fiancée, et que, lui faisant violence, il la déshonore, il sera seul puni de mort;
26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:	26 la jeune fille ne souffrira rien, et elle n'est point digne de mort, parce que, de même qu'un voleur s'élevant tout à coup contre son frère lui ôte la vie, ainsi cette jeune fille a souffert une semblable violence.
27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.	27 Elle était seule dans un champ, elle a crié, et personne n'est venu pour la délivrer.
28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;	28 Si un homme trouve une jeune fille vierge qui n'a point été fiancée, et que, lui faisant violence, il la déshonore, les juges, après avoir pris connaissance de cette affaire,
29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.	29 condamneront celui qui l'a déshonorée à donner au père de la jeune fille cinquante sicles d'argent, et il la prendra pour femme, parce qu'il a abusé d'elle, et jamais il ne pourra la répudier.
30 A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover his father's skirt.	30 Un homme n'épousera pas la femme de son père, et il ne découvrira point ce que la pudeur doit cacher.
