1 Watching for riches consumeth the flesh, and the care thereof driveth away sleep.	1 L'insonnia per arricchire consuma la carne, le preoccupazioni connesse tolgono il sonno.
2 Watching care will not let a man slumber, as a sore disease breaketh sleep,	2 La preoccupazione dell'insonnia impedisce una buona dormita, pure una grave malattia allontana il sonno.
3 The rich hath great labour in gathering riches together; and when he resteth, he is filled with his delicates.	3 Il ricco si affatica per accumulare gli averi, se riposa vuol godersi i piaceri.
4 The poor laboureth in his poor estate; and when he leaveth off, he is still needy.	4 Il povero si affatica per una vita di stenti, ma se si riposa cade in miseria.
5 He that loveth gold shall not be justified, and he that followeth corruption shall have enough thereof.	5 Chi ama l'oro non sarà giusto, chi insegue il denaro vi trova l'inganno.
6 Gold hath been the ruin of many, and their destruction was present.	6 Molti son caduti a causa dell'oro, e la perdizione fu davanti a loro.
7 It is a stumblingblock unto them that sacrifice unto it, and every fool shall be taken therewith.	7 E' legno d'inciampo per quanti ne sono folli, chi è senza senno vi trova la perdizione.
8 Blessed is the rich that is found without blemish, and hath not gone after gold.	8 Beato il ricco che è trovato senza colpa, che non è andato dietro all'oro;
9 Who is he? and we will call him blessed: for wonderful things hath he done among his people.	9 chi è, perché possiamo lodarlo? Egli ha operato prodigi nel suo popolo.
10 Who hath been tried thereby, and found perfect? then let him glory. Who might offend, and hath not offended? or done evil, and hath not done it?	10 Chi è rimasto puro in questa prova? Egli merita di essere lodato. Egli poteva trasgredire e non ha trasgredito, fare il male e non l'ha fatto.
11 His goods shall be established, and the congregation shall declare his alms.	11 Perciò i suoi beni si accresceranno e l'assemblea proclamerà le sue beneficenze.
12 If thou sit at a bountiful table, be not greedy upon it, and say not, There is much meat on it.	12 Siedi a una grande tavola? Non spalancare su di essa la tua gola e non dire: "Ci sono molte cose".
13 Remember that a wicked eye is an evil thing: and what is created more wicked than an eye? therefore it weepeth upon every occasion.	13 Ricòrdati che è un male l'occhio avido: c'è cosa più cattiva nella creazione? Esso piange, perciò, davanti a tutto.
14 Stretch not thine hand whithersoever it looketh, and thrust it not with him into the dish.	14 Dove adocchia un altro, non stendere la mano, non far ressa con lui attorno al piatto.
15 Judge not thy neighbour by thyself: and be discreet in every point.	15 Impara da te stesso i desideri del prossimo, perciò rifletti in quello che fai.
16 Eat as it becometh a man, those things which are set before thee; and devour note, lest thou be hated.	16 Mangia da vero uomo quanto ti sta dinanzi, non masticare scrosciando, per non esser disprezzato.
17 Leave off first for manners' sake; and be not unsatiable, lest thou offend.	17 Finisci per primo, in segno d'educazione, non esser ingordo, perché fa brutta impressione.
18 When thou sittest among many, reach not thine hand out first of all.	18 Se siedi in mezzo a tante persone, non stender la mano prima di loro.
19 A very little is sufficient for a man well nurtured, and he fetcheth not his wind short upon his bed.	19 All'uomo ben educato basta il poco, così a letto non sente l'affanno.
20 Sound sleep cometh of moderate eating: he riseth early, and his wits are with him: but the pain of watching, and choler, and pangs of the belly, are with an unsatiable man.	20 Il sonno è sano se lo stomaco è misurato, ci si alza presto ben padroni di sé. Malessere, insonnia, nausea e colica accompagnano l'uomo ingordo.
21 And if thou hast been forced to eat, arise, go forth, vomit, and thou shalt have rest.	21 Se sei costretto a mangiar troppo, àlzati, vomita lontano e ti sentirai meglio.
22 My son, hear me, and despise me not, and at the last thou shalt find as I told thee: in all thy works be quick, so shall there no sickness come unto thee.	22 Ascoltami, o figlio, non mi disprezzare, alla fine troverai vere le mie parole. Sii diligente in tutte le tue opere e la malattia non ti avvicinerà.
23 Whoso is liberal of his meat, men shall speak well of him; and the report of his good housekeeping will be believed.	23 Le labbra lodano chi è splendido nei conviti, il vanto della sua munificenza è meritato.
24 But against him that is a niggard of his meat the whole city shall murmur; and the testimonies of his niggardness shall not be doubted of.	24 La città mormora di chi è tirchio con gli invitati, del suo difetto si dà precisa testimonianza.
25 Shew not thy valiantness in wine; for wine hath destroyed many.	25 Non mostrare la tua virilità col vino, perché il vino ha rovinato molti.
26 The furnace proveth the edge by dipping: so doth wine the hearts of the proud by drunkeness.	26 La fornace prova il metallo nella tempera, così il vino prova il cuore in una sfida di arroganti.
27 Wine is as good as life to a man, if it be drunk moderately: what life is then to a man that is without wine? for it was made to make men glad.	27 Il vino, per gli uomini, equivale a vita, ma solo se lo bevi in giusta misura. Che vita è quella di chi è privato del vino? Esso fu creato all'inizio per rallegrare.
28 Wine measurably drunk and in season bringeth gladness of the heart, and cheerfulness of the mind:	28 E' gioia del cuore e allegrezza dell'animo il vino bevuto a tempo giusto.
29 But wine drunken with excess maketh bitterness of the mind, with brawling and quarrelling.	29 Amareggia l'animo il bere molto vino, provoca irritazione e caduta.
30 Drunkenness increaseth the rage of a fool till he offend: it diminisheth strength, and maketh wounds.	30 L'ubriachezza accresce l'ira dello stolto a suo danno, diminuisce la sua forza e aggiunge ferite.
31 Rebuke not thy neighbour at the wine, and despise him not in his mirth: give him no despiteful words, and press not upon him with urging him [to drink.]	31 In un banchetto non rimproverare il vicino, non l'oltraggiare quando è allegro. Non dirgli parole di biasimo, e non affliggerlo chiedendogli quanto ti deve.
