Sirach 29

KING JAMES BIBLE	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 He that is merciful will lend unto his neighbour; and he that strengtheneth his hand keepeth the commandments.	1 Chi è compassionevole presta al suo prossimo, e se lo sostiene per mano osserva i comandamenti.
2 Lend to thy neighbour in time of his need, and pay thou thy neighbour again in due season.	2 Presta al prossimo quando ha bisogno, d'altra parte sii puntuale nella restituzione.
3 Keep thy word, and deal faithfully with him, and thou shalt always find the thing that is necessary for thee.	3 Mantieni la parola per meritarti la fiducia, e sempre troverai quanto t'occorre.
4 Many, when a thing was lent them, reckoned it to be found, and put them to trouble that helped them.	4 Molti considerano il prestito una cosa trovata, perciò poi stancano quanti li aiutano.
5 Till he hath received, he will kiss a man's hand; and for his neighbour's money he will speak submissly: but when he should repay, he will prolong the time, and return words of grief, and complain of the time.	5 Prima di prendere gli bacia le mani e parla sommesso del suo denaro; ma per restituire ritarda sempre, dicendo parole piene di negligenza e scusandosi che il tempo non è adatto.
6 If he prevail, he shall hardly receive the half, and he will count as if he had found it: if not, he hath deprived him of his money, and he hath gotten him an enemy without cause: he payeth him with cursings and railings; and for honour he will pay him disgrace.	6 Se riesce a pagare, a stento il creditore otterrà la metà, e può considerarla come trovata; se non può, froda il creditore del suo denaro e poi lo tratta da nemico; gli restituirà maledizioni e ingiurie, invece d'onore gli darà disprezzo.
7 Many therefore have refused to lend for other men's ill dealing, fearing to be defrauded.	7 Molti, per questo danno, non vogliono far prestiti, perché temono una perdita senza loro colpa.
8 Yet have thou patience with a man in poor estate, and delay not to shew him mercy.	8 Tu, però, largheggia con l'indigente, non temporeggiare per fargli l'elemosina.
9 Help the poor for the commandment's sake, and turn him not away because of his poverty.	9 A causa della legge cùrati del povero, non mandarlo a mani vuote quando ha bisogno.
10 Lose thy money for thy brother and thy friend, and let it not rust under a stone to be lost.	10 Perdi pure l'argento per il fratello e l'amico, invece che la ruggine lo consumi sotto la pietra.
11 Lay up thy treasure according to the commandments of the most High, and it shall bring thee more profit than gold.	11 Usa la ricchezza come vuole l'Altissimo, così ti gioverà più dell'oro.
12 Shut up alms in thy storehouses: and it shall deliver thee from all affliction.	12 Sia l'elemosina ciò che conservi nei tuoi ripostigli, ti libererà da ogni disgrazia,
13 It shall fight for thee against thine enemies better than a mighty shield and strong spear.	13 combatterà per te contro il nemico più che scudo robusto e lancia pesante.
14 An honest man is surety for his neighbour: but he that is impudent will forsake him.	14 L'uomo dabbene garantisce per il prossimo, ma chi è senza pudore l'abbandona.
15 Forget not the friendship of thy surety, for he hath given his life for thee.	15 Non dimenticare il favore che ti ha fatto il garante, perché egli si è impegnato per te.
16 A sinner will overthrow the good estate of his surety:	16 Il peccatore rovina i beni del garante e l'ingrato abbandona chi l'ha salvato.
17 And he that is of an unthankful mind will leave him [in danger] that delivered him.	17 La cauzione ha rovinato molti benestanti, li ha sconvolti come onda del mare;
18 Suretiship hath undone many of good estate, and shaken them as a wave of the sea: mighty men hath it driven from their houses, so that they wandered among strange nations.	18 ha sloggiato di casa uomini potenti, facendoli emigrare in terre straniere.
19 A wicked man transgressing the commandments of the Lord shall fall into suretiship: and he that undertaketh and followeth other men's business for gain shall fall into suits.	19 Per il peccatore è un'insidia il far garanzia, vi cerca il profitto ma finirà nei tribunali.
20 Help thy neighbour according to thy power, and beware that thou thyself fall not into the same.	20 Preòccupati del prossimo quanto puoi, ma bada a non esserne rovinato.
21 The chief thing for life is water, and bread, and clothing, and an house to cover shame.	21 Questo basta per vivere: acqua, pane, mantello e una casa che copra la propria intimità.
22 Better is the life of a poor man in a mean cottage, than delicate fare in another man's house.	22 Meglio vivere da povero al riparo di pochi legni, che mangiare sontuosamente in casa d'altri.
23 Be it little or much, hold thee contented, that thou hear not the reproach of thy house.	23 Sii contento del poco o del molto che hai, e non sentirai il rimprovero perché sei straniero.
24 For it is a miserable life to go from house to house: for where thou art a stranger, thou darest not open thy mouth.	24 Brutta vita l'andare di casa in casa, dove sei ospite non puoi aprir bocca.
25 Thou shalt entertain, and feast, and have no thanks: moreover thou shalt hear bitter words:	25 Devi accogliere gli ospiti, offrire da bere senza un grazie, per sentire poi cose amare:
26 Come, thou stranger, and furnish a table, and feed me of that thou hast ready.	26 "Avanti, o forestiero, imbandisci la tavola, se hai qualcosa in mano, dammela a mangiare".
27 Give place, thou stranger, to an honourable man; my brother cometh to be lodged, and I have need of mine house.	27 "Via, o forestiero, c'è uno più importante, ho ospite mio fratello, occorre la casa".
28 These things are grievous to a man of understanding; the upbraiding of houseroom, and reproaching of the lender.	28 Per l'uomo che riflette son dure queste cose: essere disonorato da chi lo ospita e rimproverato dal creditore.
