Sirach 29

1 He that is merciful will lend unto his neighbour; and he that strengtheneth his hand keepeth the commandments.	1 Chi è misericordioso, da in prestito al suo prossimo, e chi è generoso di mano, osserva i comandamenti.
2 Lend to thy neighbour in time of his need, and pay thou thy neighbour again in due season.	2 Da ad imprestito al tuo prossimo nel tempo, del suo bisogno, e tu vicendevolmente restituisci al prossimo al tempo determinato.
3 Keep thy word, and deal faithfully with him, and thou shalt always find the thing that is necessary for thee.	3 Mantien'la parola, e portati fedelmente con lui, e troverai in ogni tempo quello, che ti abbisogna.
4 Many, when a thing was lent them, reckoned it to be found, and put them to trouble that helped them.	4 Molti il denaro imprestato tennero per denaro trovato, e diedero delle molestie a chi li avea ajutati.
5 Till he hath received, he will kiss a man's hand; and for his neighbour's money he will speak submissly: but when he should repay, he will prolong the time, and return words of grief, and complain of the time.	5 Fino che abbian ricevuto, bacian le mani al datore, e fanno delle promesse con umili parole.
6 If he prevail, he shall hardly receive the half, and he will count as if he had found it: if not, he hath deprived him of his money, and he hath gotten him an enemy without cause: he payeth him with cursings and railings; and for honour he will pay him disgrace.	6 Ma quando è tempo di restituire, chieggon tempo, e dicon cose nojose, o mormorano, e danno la colpa al tempo.
7 Many therefore have refused to lend for other men's ill dealing, fearing to be defrauded.	7 E se è in istato di pagare, fa delle difficoltà, o renderà la metà del debito, e il creditore dovrà far conto, che è tanto di trovato,
8 Yet have thou patience with a man in poor estate, and delay not to shew him mercy.	8 Altrimenti quegli lo priva del suo, e se lo tiene per suo nemico senza ragione.
9 Help the poor for the commandment's sake, and turn him not away because of his poverty.	9 E lo paga di ingiurie, e di male parole, e per un onore, e un benefizi gli rende strapazzo.
10 Lose thy money for thy brother and thy friend, and let it not rust under a stone to be lost.	10 Sono molti, che non danno in prestito non per cattivo cuore, ma temono di essere ingiustamente gabbati.
11 Lay up thy treasure according to the commandments of the most High, and it shall bring thee more profit than gold.	11 Contuttociò sii tu d'animo generoso verso il meschino, e non fare a lui allungare il collo in aspettando la carità.
12 Shut up alms in thy storehouses: and it shall deliver thee from all affliction.	12 A riflesso del comandamento assisti il povero, e noi rimandar colle mani vuote nel suo bisogno.
13 It shall fight for thee against thine enemies better than a mighty shield and strong spear.	13 Perdi il denaro per amor del fratello, e dell'amico, e noi seppellire sotto una pietra a perdersi.
14 An honest man is surety for his neighbour: but he that is impudent will forsake him.	14 Impiega il tuo tesoro nell'adempiere i precetti dell'Altissimo, e ciò ti frutterà più, che l'oro.
15 Forget not the friendship of thy surety, for he hath given his life for thee.	15 Chiudi la limosina nel seno del povero, e questa pregherà per te contro) ogni sorta di mali.
16 A sinner will overthrow the good estate of his surety:	16 Ella combatterà contro il tuo nemico assai meglio, che lo scudo, e la lancia di un campione.
17 And he that is of an unthankful mind will leave him [in danger] that delivered him.	17 . .
18 Suretiship hath undone many of good estate, and shaken them as a wave of the sea: mighty men hath it driven from their houses, so that they wandered among strange nations.	18 . .
19 A wicked man transgressing the commandments of the Lord shall fall into suretiship: and he that undertaketh and followeth other men's business for gain shall fall into suits.	19 L'uomo dabbene entra mallevadore al suo prossimo, ma colui, che ha perduto il rossore, abbandona il prossimo a se stesso.
20 Help thy neighbour according to thy power, and beware that thou thyself fall not into the same.	20 Non ti scordare del benefizio fatto a te dal tuo mallevadore; perocché egli ha esposta per te la sua vita.
21 The chief thing for life is water, and bread, and clothing, and an house to cover shame.	21 Il peccatore, e l'immondo fugge il suo mallevadore.
22 Better is the life of a poor man in a mean cottage, than delicate fare in another man's house.	22 Il peccatore fa conto, che sian suoi propri i beni del suo mallevadore, e ingrato di cuore abbandona chi lo ha liberato.
23 Be it little or much, hold thee contented, that thou hear not the reproach of thy house.	23 Un uomo' promette pel suo prossimo, e questi perduto ogni pudore lo abbandona.
24 For it is a miserable life to go from house to house: for where thou art a stranger, thou darest not open thy mouth.	24 Le mallevadorie spropositate hanno rovinati molti, che si regolavano bene, e li hanno messi sossopra como una tempesta di mare.
25 Thou shalt entertain, and feast, and have no thanks: moreover thou shalt hear bitter words:	25 Questa ha sconvolti uomini facoltosi, e li ha fatti fuggire, e andar vagabondi tra genti straniere.
26 Come, thou stranger, and furnish a table, and feed me of that thou hast ready.	26 Il peccatore, che trasgredisce i comandamenti del Signore si impegnerà in mallevadorie rovinose, e chi vuoi far molte cose si imbroglia in liti.
27 Give place, thou stranger, to an honourable man; my brother cometh to be lodged, and I have need of mine house.	27 Solleva il prossimo secondo il tuo potere, e veglia sopra te stesso affine di non precipitarti.
28 These things are grievous to a man of understanding; the upbraiding of houseroom, and reproaching of the lender.	28 La somma della vita umana è l'acqua, e il pane, e il vestito, e la casa per tener coperto ciò, che non dee farsi vedere.
	29 Val più il vitto del povero sotto un coperto di tavole, che li splendidi banchetti in casa straniera, dove uno non ha domicilio.
	30 Contentati del poco come del molto, e non avrai a sentire i rìmprocci, che si fanno a' forestieri.
	31 Ell' è una cattiva vita quella di andar in ospizio da una casa all'altra, e dove uno è ospite non agirà con libertà, e non aprirà bocca.
	32 Uno alberga, e da da mangiare, e da bere a gente ingrata, e oltre a ciò, udirà delle male parole.
	33 Su via, o ospite, ammanisci la tavola, e con quello, che hai teco, da da mangiare agli altri.
	34 Cedi il luogo ai miei amici onorati, ho bisogno della mia casa: ricevo ospite un mio fratello.
	35 Queste cose sono pesanti ad un uomo sensato: i rimproveri del padron di casa, e gli improperj di chi gli ha fatto imprestito.
