Proverbs 7

1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.	1 Mon fils, retiens mes paroles, garde précieusement mes conseils.
2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.	2 Observe mes commandements et tu vivras, garde mon enseignement comme la prunelle de tes yeux.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.	3 Serre-les fermement entre tes doigts, inscris-les sur les tablettes de ton cœur!
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:	4 Dis à la sagesse: “Sois ma sœur”, et à l’intelligence: “Sois mon amie”.
5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.	5 Alors tu sauras te garder de la femme d’un autre, de la belle inconnue aux douces paroles.
6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,	6 De la fenêtre de ma maison je regardais à travers le grillage,
7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,	7 et je vis passer un naïf, un de ces jeunes qui ne pensent à rien.
8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,	8 Il s’engageait dans la ruelle, près du coin où vit cette femme, il se dirigeait vers sa maison.
9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:	9 C’était le soir, à la tombée du jour, déjà c’était la nuit et l’obscurité.
10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.	10 Et voici qu’elle vient à sa rencontre, vêtue comme une prostituée et couverte d’un voile.
11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:	11 C’est la femme effrontée, qui n’a plus de honte, qui ne tient plus en place dans sa maison.
12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)	12 Tantôt dans la rue, tantôt sur les places, de tous côtés elle cherche l’aventure.
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,	13 Elle se jette sur ce jeune homme et l’embrasse; elle lui dit d’un ton assuré:
14 I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.	14 “Il me fallait offrir un sacrifice, aujourd’hui même je devais m’acquitter d’un vœu.
15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.	15 Je suis donc sortie à ta recherche pour que tu sois au repas et je t’ai trouvé.
16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.	16 J’ai garni mon divan de couvertures, de fine toile d’Égypte.
17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.	17 J’ai parfumé mon lit avec de la myrrhe, de l’aloès et de la marjolaine.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.	18 Viens, prenons notre plaisir, enivrons-nous d’amour jusqu’au matin!
19 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:	19 Mon mari n’est pas à la maison, il est en voyage loin d’ici;
20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.	20 il a pris l’argent avec lui et ne reviendra à la maison qu’à la pleine lune.”
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.	21 À force d’habileté elle réussit à le convaincre, elle le séduit et l’entraîne.
22 He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;	22 Il la suit aussitôt, comme un bœuf qu’on mène à l’abattoir, comme un cerf pris au nœud coulant,
23 Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.	23 à qui bientôt une flèche percera le foie. Il est comme l’oiseau qui se jette dans le filet, sans savoir qu’il y va de sa vie!
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.	24 Donc vous, mes fils, écoutez-moi; retenez bien cette consigne:
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.	25 ne te laisse pas séduire par une de ces femmes, ne te laisse pas égarer par ses manœuvres.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.	26 Car elle a déjà fait beaucoup de victimes, et les plus forts y sont tombés.
27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.	27 De sa maison on passe chez les morts, c’est un chemin qui s’enfonce vers le monde des morts.
