KING JAMES BIBLENOVA VULGATA
1 A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.1 Filius sapiens disciplina patris;
qui autem illusor est, non audit, cum arguitur.
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.2 De fructu oris sui homo satiabitur bonis,
anima autem praevaricatorum violentia.
3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.3 Qui custodit os suum, custodit animam suam;
qui autem incautus est eloquio, ruina est ei.
4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.4 Vult et non habet piger,
anima autem operantium impinguabitur.
5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.5 Verbum mendax iustus detestabitur,
impius autem confundit et dehonestat.
6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.6 Iustitia custodit innocentem in via,
impietas autem peccatorem supplantat.
7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.7 Est qui quasi dives habetur, cum nihil habeat;
et est qui quasi pauper, cum in multis divitiis sit.
8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.8 Redemptio animae viri divitiae suae;
qui autem pauper est, increpationem non sustinet.
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.9 Lux iustorum laetificat,
lucerna autem impiorum exstinguetur.
10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.10 Inter superbos tantum iurgia sunt,
et apud humiles sapientia.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.11 Substantia festinata minuetur;
qui autem colligit manu, multiplicat.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.12 Spes, quae differtur, affligit animam,
lignum vitae desiderium veniens.
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.13 Qui contemnit verbum, ipse se obligat;
qui autem timet praeceptum, retribuetur ei.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.14 Lex sapientis fons vitae,
ut declinet a laqueis mortis.
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.15 Intellegentia bona dabit gratiam,
in itinere infidelium vorago.
16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.16 Omnis astutus agit cum consilio;
qui autem fatuus est, aperit stultitiam.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.17 Nuntius impius cadet in malum,
legatus autem fidelis sanitas.
18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.18 Egestas et ignominia ei, qui deserit disciplinam;
qui autem acquiescit arguenti, glorificabitur.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.19 Desiderium, si compleatur, delectat animam;
detestantur stulti fugere mala.
20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.20 Qui cum sapientibus graditur, sapiens erit;
amicus stultorum malus efficietur.
21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.21 Peccatores persequitur malum,
et iustis retribuentur bona.
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.22 Bonus relinquit heredes filios et nepotes;
et custoditur iusto substantia peccatoris.
23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.23 Multi cibi in novalibus pauperum,
et est qui perit, deficiente iudicio.
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.24 Qui parcit virgae, odit filium suum;
qui autem diligit illum, instanter erudit.
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.25 Iustus comedit et replet animam suam,
venter autem impiorum insaturabilis.
