KING JAMES BIBLEDOUAI-RHEIMS
A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.1 A wise son heareth the doctrine of his father: but he that is a scorner, beareth not when he is reproved.
A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.2 Of the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled with good things: but the soul of transgressors is wicked.
He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.3 He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his soul: but he that hath no guard on his speech shall meet with evils.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.4 The sluggard willeth and willeth not: but the soul of them that work, shall be made fat.
A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.5 The just shall hate a lying word: but the wicked confoundeth, and shall be confounded.
Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.6 Justice keepeth the way of the innocent: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.7 One is as it were rich, when he hath nothing: and another is as it were poor, when he hath great riches.
The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.8 The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but he that is poor beareth not reprehension.
The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.9 The light of the just giveth joy: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.10 Among the proud there are always contentions: but they that do all things with counsel, are ruled by wisdom.
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.11 Substance got in haste shall be diminished: but that which by little and little is gathered with the hand shall increase.
Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.12 Hope that is deferred afflicteth the soul: desire when it cometh is a tree of life.
Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.13 Whosoever speaketh ill of any thing, bindeth himself for the time to come: but he that feareth the commandment, shall dwell in peace. Deceitful souls go astray in sins: the just are merciful, and shew mercy.
The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, that he may decline from the ruin of death.
Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.15 Good instruction shall give grace: in the way of scorners is a deep pit.
Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.16 The prudent mall doth all things with counsel: but he that is a fool, layeth open his folly.
A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.17 The messenger of the wicked shall fall into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.18 Poverty and shame to him that refuseth instruction: but he that yieldeth to reproof, shall be glorified.
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.19 The desire that is accomplished, delighteth the soul: fools hate them that flee from evil things.
He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.20 He that walketh with the wise, shall be wise: a friend of fools shall become like to them.
Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.21 ,21Evil pursueth sinners: and to the just good shall be repaid.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.22 The good man leaveth heirs, sons, and grandsons: and the substance of the sinner is kept for the just.
Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.23 Much food is in the tillage of fathers: but for others it is gathered with out judgment.
He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.24 He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes.
The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.25 The just eateth and filleth his soul: but the belly of the wicked is never to be filled.
