KING JAMES BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.1 God of vengeance, Yahweh, God of vengeance, shine forth!
Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.2 Arise, judge of the world, give back the proud what they deserve!
LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?3 How long are the wicked, Yahweh, how long are the wicked to triumph?
How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?4 They bluster and boast, they flaunt themselves, all the evil-doers.
They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage.5 They crush your people, Yahweh, they oppress your heritage,
They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.6 they murder the widow and the stranger, bring the orphan to a violent death.
Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.7 They say, 'Yahweh is not looking, the God of Jacob is taking no notice.'
Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?8 Take notice yourselves, you coarsest of people! Fools, when wil you learn some sense?
He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?9 Shal he who implanted the ear not hear, he who fashioned the eye not see?
He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?10 Shal he who instructs nations not punish? Yahweh, the teacher of al people,
The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.11 knows human plans and how insipid they are.
Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;12 How blessed are those you instruct, Yahweh, whom you teach by means of your law,
That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.13 to give them respite in evil times, til a pit is dug for the wicked.
For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.14 Yahweh will not abandon his people, he wil not desert his heritage;
But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.15 for judgement will again become saving justice, and in its wake al upright hearts will fol ow.
Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?16 Who rises up on my side against the wicked? Who stands firm on my side against al evil-doers?
Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.17 If Yahweh did not come to my help, I should soon find myself dwel ing in the silence.
When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.18 I need only say, 'I am slipping,' for your faithful love, Yahweh, to support me;
In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.19 however great the anxiety of my heart, your consolations soothe me.
Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?20 Are you partner to a destructive court, that gives disorder the status of law?
They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.21 They make an attack on the life of the upright, and condemn innocent blood.
But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.22 No! Yahweh is a stronghold to me, my God is my rock of refuge.
And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.23 He turns back their guilt on themselves, annihilates them for their wickedness, he annihilates them,Yahweh our God.
