Psalms 94

1 O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.	1 Dieu vengeur, ô mon Seigneur, Dieu vengeur, montre-toi!
2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud.	2 Impose-toi, juge de la terre, et rends leur dû aux orgueilleux.
3 LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?	3 Jusqu’à quand, Seigneur, ces méchants, jusqu’à quand ces méchants qui triomphent?
4 How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves?	4 Ils parlent de travers, ils parlent de haut, ils parlent et se vantent, tous ces malfaisants.
5 They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage.	5 Ils écrasent ton peuple, Seigneur, ils oppriment ta famille.
6 They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.	6 Ils tuent la veuve et l’isolé, ils massacrent les orphelins.
7 Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.	7 Ils croient que le Seigneur ne voit pas, que le Dieu de Jacob n’en sait rien.
8 Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?	8 Prenez garde, esprits plus bornés que les autres! Imbéciles, quand donc comprendrez-vous?
9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?	9 Lui qui a fait l’oreille, n’entend-il pas? Lui qui a créé l’œil, ne voit-il pas?
10 He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know?	10 Peut-il reprendre les nations et vous ignorer, lui qui enseigne à l’homme ce qu’il doit savoir?
11 The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.	11 Le Seigneur connaît les projets des hommes: ils ne sont que du vent.
12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;	12 Heureux celui que tu corriges, Seigneur, celui à qui tu enseignes ta loi!
13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked.	13 Tu le maintiens au calme dans les jours mauvais, le temps qu’on creuse au méchant sa fosse.
14 For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.	14 Car le Seigneur ne rejette pas son peuple, il n’abandonne jamais les siens.
15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.	15 Le jugement reviendra à Celui qui est juste, et tous les cœurs droits pourront applaudir.
16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?	16 Qui se met de mon côté contre les méchants? Qui veut avec moi tenir tête aux malfaisants?
17 Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.	17 Par bonheur le Seigneur m’a secouru, un peu plus, et je finissais chez les morts.
18 When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up.	18 À peine ai-je dit: “Mes pieds chancellent! ” ta grâce, Seigneur, m’a raffermi.
19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.	19 Mes soucis avaient beau m’assiéger, tes secours réconfortaient mon âme.
20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?	20 Pourrais-tu supporter un pouvoir criminel, auteur de lois oppressives?
21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.	21 Tous conspirent contre la vie du juste et font condamner l’innocent.
22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.	22 Mais le Seigneur, ma citadelle, est toujours là, mon Dieu m’est un rocher, un refuge.
23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.	23 Il retourne contre eux leur injustice, et leur propre malice les renvoie au néant: le Seigneur notre Dieu les réduira à rien.
