KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;1 For the leader. A psalm of David.
For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.2 O God, whom I praise, do not be silent, for wicked and treacherous mouths attack me. They speak against me with lying tongues;
They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.3 with hateful words they surround me, attacking me without cause.
For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.4 In return for my love they slander me, even though I prayed for them.
And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.5 They repay me evil for good, hatred for my love. My enemies say of me:
Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.6 "Find a lying witness, an accuser to stand by his right hand,
When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.7 That he may be judged and found guilty, that his plea may be in vain.
Let his days be few; and let another take his office.8 May his days be few; may another take his office.
Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.9 May his children be fatherless, his wife, a widow.
Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.10 May his children be vagrant beggars, driven from their hovels.
Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.11 May the usurer snare all he owns, strangers plunder all he earns.
Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.12 May no one treat him kindly or pity his fatherless children.
Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.13 May his posterity be destroyed, his name cease in the next generation.
Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.14 May the LORD remember his fathers' guilt; his mother's sin not be canceled.
Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.15 May their guilt be always before the LORD, till their memory is banished from the earth,
Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.16 For he did not remember to show kindness, but hounded the wretched poor and brought death to the brokenhearted.
As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.17 He loved cursing; may it come upon him; he hated blessing; may none come to him.
As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.18 May cursing clothe him like a robe; may it enter his belly like water, seep into his bones like oil.
Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.19 May it be near as the clothes he wears, as the belt always around him."
Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.20 May the LORD bring all this upon my accusers, upon those who speak evil against me.
But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.21 But you, LORD, my God, deal kindly with me for your name's sake; in your great mercy rescue me.
For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.22 For I am sorely in need; my heart is pierced within me.
I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.23 Like a lengthening shadow I near my end, all but swept away like the locust.
My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.24 My knees totter from fasting; my flesh has wasted away.
I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.25 I have become a mockery to them; when they see me, they shake their heads.
Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy:26 Help me, LORD, my God; save me in your kindness.
That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.27 Make them know this is your hand, that you, LORD, have acted.
Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.28 Though they curse, may you bless; shame my foes, that your servant may rejoice.
Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.29 Clothe my accusers with disgrace; make them wear shame like a mantle.
I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.30 I will give fervent thanks to the LORD; before all I will praise my God.
For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.31 For God stands at the right hand of the poor to defend them against unjust accusers.
