1 A karvezetőnek. Dávid zsoltára. Uram, te megvizsgáltál és ismersz engem,	1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David.
2 tudod, ha leülök és ha fölkelek. Messziről ismered gondolataimat,	2 Rescue me, O Lord, from the evil man. Rescue me from the iniquitous leader.
3 szemmel tartod akár járok-kelek, akár pihenek. Előre ismered minden utamat.	3 Those who have devised iniquities in their hearts: all day long they constructed conflicts.
4 Még nyelvemen sincs a szó, és te már érted egészen, Uram.	4 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. The venom of asps is under their lips.
5 Minden oldalról körülveszel engem, és fölöttem tartod kezedet.	5 Preserve me, O Lord, from the hand of the sinner, and rescue me from men of iniquity. They have decided to supplant my steps.
6 Oly nagy, oly csodálatos nekem ez a tudás: ésszel föl sem érhetem!	6 The arrogant have hidden a snare for me. And they have stretched out cords for a snare. They have placed a stumbling block for me near the road.
7 Hová mehetnék lelked elől, hová bújhatnék színed elől?	7 I said to the Lord: You are my God. O Lord, heed the voice of my supplication.
8 Ha fölmennék az ég magasába, te ott vagy, ha alászállnék az alvilágba, jelen vagy.	8 Lord, O Lord, the strength of my salvation: you have overshadowed my head in the day of war.
9 Ha felölteném a hajnal szárnyát, s a tenger szélső határára szöknék,	9 O Lord, do not hand me over to the sinner by my desire. They have plotted against me. Do not abandon me, lest they should triumph.
10 ott is a te kezed vezetne, és jobbod tartana engem.	10 The head of those who encompass me, the labor of their lips, will overwhelm them.
11 Mondhatnám: »Borítson be a sötétség, s váljon éjszakává köröttem a fény«,	11 Burning coals will fall upon them. You will cast them down into the fire, into miseries that they will not be able to withstand.
12 de neked nem sötét a sötétség, s az éj mint a nappal, oly világos előtted. Fény és sötétség közt neked nincs különbség.	12 A talkative man will not be guided aright upon the earth. Evils will drag the unjust man unto utter ruin.
13 Hiszen te formáltad bensőm, s anyám méhében te szőtted a testem.	13 I know that the Lord will accomplish justice for the needy and vindication for the poor.
14 Dicsőítlek téged, mert olyan csodálatosan alkottál, és tudom jól, milyen csodálatos minden műved!	14 So then, truly, the just will confess your name, and the upright will dwell with your countenance.
15 Létem nem volt titokban előtted, amikor a föld ölén rejtve formálódtam.
16 Még alakot sem nyertek tagjaim és szemed már látott engem. Könyvedben már minden fel volt jegyezve rólam: napjaim már eltervezted, mielőtt egy is eltelt volna belőlük.
17 Milyen tiszteletreméltók előttem gondolataid, Istenem, milyen hatalmas a számuk!
18 Megszámlálnám őket, de számosabbak a homokszemeknél, s ha végükre is érnék, még mindig csak nálad tartanék.
19 Bárcsak megsemmisítenéd a gonoszokat, Istenem, és eltávolítanád tőlem a vérszomjas embereket,
20 akik gonoszul beszélnek: hiába kelnek föl ellened.
21 Ne gyűlöljem, Uram azokat, akik gyűlölnek téged, ne utáljam ellenségeidet?
22 Teljes gyűlölettel gyűlölöm őket, ellenségeim lettek.
23 Vizsgálj meg Istenem és ismerd meg szívemet; tégy próbára és ismerd meg utaimat,
24 lásd, vajon a gonoszok útján járok-e, és vezess az örökkévalóság útján engem.
