1 David überlegte: Eines Tages werde ich doch noch durch Saul umgebracht. Es bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als mich im Land der Philister in Sicherheit zu bringen. Dann wird Saul mich in Ruhe lassen und aufhören, mich weiter im ganzen Gebiet Israels zu suchen, und ich bin seiner Hand entkommen.	1 And David said in his heart, "I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing better for me than that I should escape to the land of the Philistines; then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand."
2 David machte sich also auf den Weg und ging mit den sechshundert Männern, die bei ihm waren, zu Achisch hinüber, dem Sohn Maochs, dem König von Gat.	2 So David arose and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
3 Und er blieb mit seinen Leuten bei Achisch in Gat; alle hatten ihre Familien bei sich, David seine beiden Frauen: Ahinoam, die Jesreeliterin, und Abigajil aus Karmel, die (frühere) Frau Nabals.	3 And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, and David with his two wives, Ahino-am of Jezreel, and Abigail of Carmel, Nabal's widow.
4 Als man Saul meldete, dass David nach Gat geflohen war, suchte er nicht mehr weiter nach ihm.	4 And when it was told Saul that David had fled to Gath, he sought for him no more.
5 David sagte zu Achisch: Wenn ich dein Wohlwollen gefunden habe, dann weise mir einen Platz in einer der Städte des flachen Landes zu, wo ich mich niederlassen kann. Warum soll dein Knecht bei dir in der Königsstadt wohnen?	5 Then David said to Achish, "If I have found favor in your eyes, let a place be given me in one of the country towns, that I may dwell there; for why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?"
6 Da gab ihm Achisch noch am gleichen Tag Ziklag. Deshalb gehört Ziklag den Königen von Juda bis zum heutigen Tag.	6 So that day Achish gave him Ziklag; therefore Ziklag has belonged to the kings of Judah to this day.
7 Die Zeit, die David im Land der Philister verbrachte, betrug ein Jahr und vier Monate.	7 And the number of the days that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a year and four months.
8 David zog mit seinen Männern aus und sie unternahmen Raubzüge bei den Geschuritern, den Geresitern und den Amalekitern; diese bewohnen von jeher das Gebiet in Richtung Schur und nach Ägypten zu.	8 Now David and his men went up, and made raids upon the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for these were the inhabitants of the land from of old, as far as Shur, to the land of Egypt.
9 David verheerte das Land und ließ weder Männer noch Frauen am Leben; Schafe und Rinder, Esel, Kamele und Kleider aber nahm er mit. Wenn er dann zurückkehrte und zu Achisch kam	9 And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, but took away the sheep, the oxen, the asses, the camels, and the garments, and came back to Achish.
10 und Achisch ihn fragte: Wohin habt ihr heute euren Raubzug gemacht?, antwortete David: Ins Südland von Juda, oder: Ins Südland der Jerachmeeliter, oder: Ins Südland der Keniter.	10 When Achish asked, "Against whom have you made a raid today?" David would say, "Against the Negeb of Judah," or "Against the Negeb of the Jerahmeelites," or, "Against the Negeb of the Kenites."
11 Weder Männer noch Frauen ließ er am Leben und er brachte niemand nach Gat; denn er sagte sich: Niemand soll etwas über uns berichten und sagen können: Das und das hat David gemacht. So hielt er es die ganze Zeit über, solange er sich im Land der Philister aufhielt.	11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, thinking, "Lest they should tell about us, and say, So David has done.'" Such was his custom all the while he dwelt in the country of the Philistines.
12 Achisch aber schenkte David Vertrauen, denn er sagte sich: Er hat sich bei seinem Volk, bei den Israeliten, so verhasst gemacht, dass er für immer mein Knecht bleiben muss.	12 And Achish trusted David, thinking, "He has made himself utterly abhorred by his people Israel; therefore he shall be my servant always."
