1 Damals sagte der Herr zu Josua:	1 Then the LORD said to Joshua,
2 Sag den Israeliten: Bestimmt die Asylstädte bei euch, von denen ich zu euch durch Mose gesprochen habe.	2 "Say to the people of Israel, 'Appoint the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you through Moses,
3 Dorthin kann jeder fliehen, der getötet hat, das heißt, der versehentlich, ohne Vorsatz, einen Menschen erschlagen hat. Die Städte sollen euch als Asyl vor dem Bluträcher dienen.	3 that the manslayer who kills any person without intent or unwittingly may flee there; they shall be for you a refuge from the avenger of blood.
4 Wenn jemand in eine von diesen Städten flieht, soll er am Eingang des Stadttors stehen bleiben und den Ältesten der Stadt seine Sache vortragen. Sie sollen ihn zu sich in die Stadt aufnehmen und ihm eine Unterkunft geben, damit er bei ihnen bleiben kann.	4 He shall flee to one of these cities and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and explain his case to the elders of that city; then they shall take him into the city, and give him a place, and he shall remain with them.
5 Wenn dann der Bluträcher ihn verfolgt, sollen sie ihm den, der getötet hat, nicht ausliefern; denn er hat seinen Nächsten versehentlich erschlagen und ohne ihn vorher gehasst zu haben.	5 And if the avenger of blood pursues him, they shall not give up the slayer into his hand; because he killed his neighbor unwittingly, having had no enmity against him in times past.
6 Er soll in dieser Stadt bleiben, bis er vor die Gemeinde zur Gerichtsverhandlung treten kann, bis zum Tod des Hohenpriesters, der in jenen Tagen im Amt ist. Dann darf der, der getötet hat, wieder in seine Stadt und in sein Haus zurückkehren - in die Stadt, aus der er geflohen ist.	6 And he shall remain in that city until he has stood before the congregation for judgment, until the death of him who is high priest at the time: then the slayer may go again to his own town and his own home, to the town from which he fled.'"
7 Man wählte also Kedesch in Galiläa, im Gebirge Naftali, aus, ferner Sichem im Gebirge Efraim und Kirjat- Arba, das ist Hebron, im Gebirge Juda.	7 So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.
8 Jenseits des Jordan [östlich von Jericho] bestimmte man Bezer in der Steppe, in der Ebene, vom Stamm Ruben, Ramot in Gilead vom Stamm Gad und Golan im Baschan vom Stamm Manasse.	8 And beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, they appointed Bezer in the wilderness on the tableland, from the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead, from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan, from the tribe of Manasseh.
9 Das waren die Asylstädte für alle Israeliten und für die Fremden, die sich bei ihnen aufhielten. Dorthin konnte jeder, der ohne Vorsatz einen Menschen erschlagen hatte, fliehen, um nicht durch die Hand des Bluträchers zu sterben, bevor er vor der Gemeinde gestanden hätte.	9 These were the cities designated for all the people of Israel, and for the stranger sojourning among them, that any one who killed a person without intent could flee there, so that he might not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, till he stood before the congregation.
