1 Ahmt Gott nach als seine geliebten Kinder	1 Therefore, as most beloved sons, be imitators of God.
2 und liebt einander, weil auch Christus uns geliebt und sich für uns hingegeben hat als Gabe und als Opfer, das Gott gefällt.	2 And walk in love, just as Christ also loved us and delivered himself for us, as an oblation and a sacrifice to God, with a fragrance of sweetness.
3 Von Unzucht aber und Schamlosigkeit jeder Art oder von Habgier soll bei euch, wie es sich für Heilige gehört, nicht einmal die Rede sein.	3 But let not any kind of fornication, or impurity, or rapacity so much as be named among you, just as is worthy of the saints,
4 Auch Sittenlosigkeit und albernes oder zweideutiges Geschwätz schickt sich nicht für euch, sondern Dankbarkeit.	4 nor any indecent, or foolish, or abusive talk, for this is without purpose; but instead, give thanks.
5 Denn das sollt ihr wissen: Kein unzüchtiger, schamloser oder habgieriger Mensch - das heißt kein Götzendiener - erhält ein Erbteil im Reich Christi und Gottes.	5 For know and understand this: no one who is a fornicator, or lustful, or rapacious (for these are a kind of service to idols) holds an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Niemand täusche euch mit leeren Worten: All das zieht auf die Ungehorsamen den Zorn Gottes herab.	6 Let no one seduce you with empty words. For because of these things, the wrath of God was sent upon the sons of unbelief.
7 Habt darum nichts mit ihnen gemein!	7 Therefore, do not choose to become participants with them.
8 Denn einst wart ihr Finsternis, jetzt aber seid ihr durch den Herrn Licht geworden. Lebt als Kinder des Lichts!	8 For you were darkness, in times past, but now you are light, in the Lord. So then, walk as sons of the light.
9 Das Licht bringt lauter Güte, Gerechtigkeit und Wahrheit hervor.	9 For the fruit of the light is in all goodness and justice and truth,
10 Prüft, was dem Herrn gefällt,	10 affirming what is well-pleasing to God.
11 und habt nichts gemein mit den Werken der Finsternis, die keine Frucht bringen, sondern deckt sie auf!	11 And so, have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead, refute them.
12 Denn man muss sich schämen, von dem, was sie heimlich tun, auch nur zu reden.	12 For the things that are done by them in secret are shameful, even to mention.
13 Alles, was aufgedeckt ist, wird vom Licht erleuchtet.	13 But all things that are disputed are made manifest by the light. For all that is made manifest is light.
14 Alles Erleuchtete aber ist Licht. Deshalb heißt es: Wach auf, du Schläfer, und steh auf von den Toten und Christus wird dein Licht sein.	14 Because of this, it is said: “You who are sleeping: awaken, and rise up from the dead, and so shall the Christ enlighten you.”
15 Achtet also sorgfältig darauf, wie ihr euer Leben führt, nicht töricht, sondern klug.	15 And so, brothers, see to it that you walk cautiously, not like the foolish,
16 Nutzt die Zeit; denn diese Tage sind böse.	16 but like the wise: atoning for this age, because this is an evil time.
17 Darum seid nicht unverständig, sondern begreift, was der Wille des Herrn ist.	17 For this reason, do not choose to be imprudent. Instead, understand what is the will of God.
18 Berauscht euch nicht mit Wein - das macht zügellos -, sondern lasst euch vom Geist erfüllen!	18 And do not choose to be inebriated by wine, for this is self-indulgence. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,
19 Lasst in eurer Mitte Psalmen, Hymnen und Lieder erklingen, wie der Geist sie eingibt. Singt und jubelt aus vollem Herzen zum Lob des Herrn!	19 speaking among yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual canticles, singing and reciting psalms to the Lord in your hearts,
20 Sagt Gott, dem Vater, jederzeit Dank für alles im Namen Jesu Christi, unseres Herrn!	20 giving thanks always for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God the Father.
21 Einer ordne sich dem andern unter in der gemeinsamen Ehrfurcht vor Christus.	21 Be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
22 Ihr Frauen, ordnet euch euren Männern unter wie dem Herrn (Christus);	22 Wives should be submissive to their husbands, as to the Lord.
23 denn der Mann ist das Haupt der Frau, wie auch Christus das Haupt der Kirche ist; er hat sie gerettet, denn sie ist sein Leib.	23 For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church. He is the Savior of his body.
24 Wie aber die Kirche sich Christus unterordnet, sollen sich die Frauen in allem den Männern unterordnen.	24 Therefore, just as the Church is subject to Christ, so also should wives be subject to their husbands in all things.
25 Ihr Männer, liebt eure Frauen, wie Christus die Kirche geliebt und sich für sie hingegeben hat,	25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the Church and handed himself over for her,
26 um sie im Wasser und durch das Wort rein und heilig zu machen.	26 so that he might sanctify her, washing her clean by water and the Word of life,
27 So will er die Kirche herrlich vor sich erscheinen lassen, ohne Flecken, Falten oder andere Fehler; heilig soll sie sein und makellos.	27 so that he might offer her to himself as a glorious Church, not having any spot or wrinkle or any such thing, so that she would be holy and immaculate.
28 Darum sind die Männer verpflichtet, ihre Frauen so zu lieben wie ihren eigenen Leib. Wer seine Frau liebt, liebt sich selbst.	28 So, too, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29 Keiner hat je seinen eigenen Leib gehasst, sondern er nährt und pflegt ihn, wie auch Christus die Kirche.	29 For no man has ever hated his own flesh, but instead he nourishes and cherishes it, as Christ also does to the Church.
30 Denn wir sind Glieder seines Leibes.	30 For we are a part of his body, of his flesh and of his bones.
31 Darum wird der Mann Vater und Mutter verlassen und sich an seine Frau binden und die zwei werden ein Fleisch sein.	31 “For this reason, a man shall leave behind his father and mother, and he shall cling to his wife; and the two shall be as one flesh.”
32 Dies ist ein tiefes Geheimnis; ich beziehe es auf Christus und die Kirche.	32 This is a great Sacrament. And I am speaking in Christ and in the Church.
33 Was euch angeht, so liebe jeder von euch seine Frau wie sich selbst, die Frau aber ehre den Mann.	33 Yet truly, each and every one of you should love his wife as himself. And a wife should fear her husband.
