EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ahmt Gott nach als seine geliebten Kinder	1 As God's dear children, then, take him as your pattern,
2 und liebt einander, weil auch Christus uns geliebt und sich für uns hingegeben hat als Gabe und als Opfer, das Gott gefällt.	2 and fol ow Christ by loving as he loved you, giving himself up for us as an offering and a sweet-smel ingsacrifice to God.
3 Von Unzucht aber und Schamlosigkeit jeder Art oder von Habgier soll bei euch, wie es sich für Heilige gehört, nicht einmal die Rede sein.	3 Among you there must be not even a mention of sexual vice or impurity in any of its forms, or greed:this would scarcely become the holy people of God!
4 Auch Sittenlosigkeit und albernes oder zweideutiges Geschwätz schickt sich nicht für euch, sondern Dankbarkeit.	4 There must be no foul or salacious talk or coarse jokes -- al this is wrong for you; there should ratherbe thanksgiving.
5 Denn das sollt ihr wissen: Kein unzüchtiger, schamloser oder habgieriger Mensch - das heißt kein Götzendiener - erhält ein Erbteil im Reich Christi und Gottes.	5 For you can be quite certain that nobody who indulges in sexual immorality or impurity or greed -- whichis worshipping a false god -- can inherit the kingdom of God.
6 Niemand täusche euch mit leeren Worten: All das zieht auf die Ungehorsamen den Zorn Gottes herab.	6 Do not let anyone deceive you with empty arguments: it is such behaviour that draws down God'sretribution on those who rebel against him.
7 Habt darum nichts mit ihnen gemein!	7 Make sure that you do not throw in your lot with them.
8 Denn einst wart ihr Finsternis, jetzt aber seid ihr durch den Herrn Licht geworden. Lebt als Kinder des Lichts!	8 You were darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord; behave as children of light,
9 Das Licht bringt lauter Güte, Gerechtigkeit und Wahrheit hervor.	9 for the effects of the light are seen in complete goodness and uprightness and truth.
10 Prüft, was dem Herrn gefällt,	10 Try to discover what the Lord wants of you,
11 und habt nichts gemein mit den Werken der Finsternis, die keine Frucht bringen, sondern deckt sie auf!	11 take no part in the futile works of darkness but, on the contrary, show them up for what they are.
12 Denn man muss sich schämen, von dem, was sie heimlich tun, auch nur zu reden.	12 The things which are done in secret are shameful even to speak of;
13 Alles, was aufgedeckt ist, wird vom Licht erleuchtet.	13 but anything shown up by the light wil be il uminated
14 Alles Erleuchtete aber ist Licht. Deshalb heißt es: Wach auf, du Schläfer, und steh auf von den Toten und Christus wird dein Licht sein.	14 and anything illuminated is itself a light. That is why it is said: Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead,and Christ wil shine on you.
15 Achtet also sorgfältig darauf, wie ihr euer Leben führt, nicht töricht, sondern klug.	15 So be very careful about the sort of lives you lead, like intel igent and not like senseless people.
16 Nutzt die Zeit; denn diese Tage sind böse.	16 Make the best of the present time, for it is a wicked age.
17 Darum seid nicht unverständig, sondern begreift, was der Wille des Herrn ist.	17 This is why you must not be thoughtless but must recognise what is the will of the Lord.
18 Berauscht euch nicht mit Wein - das macht zügellos -, sondern lasst euch vom Geist erfüllen!	18 Do not get drunk with wine; this is simply dissipation; be fil ed with the Spirit.
19 Lasst in eurer Mitte Psalmen, Hymnen und Lieder erklingen, wie der Geist sie eingibt. Singt und jubelt aus vollem Herzen zum Lob des Herrn!	19 Sing psalms and hymns and inspired songs among yourselves, singing and chanting to the Lord inyour hearts,
20 Sagt Gott, dem Vater, jederzeit Dank für alles im Namen Jesu Christi, unseres Herrn!	20 always and everywhere giving thanks to God who is our Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21 Einer ordne sich dem andern unter in der gemeinsamen Ehrfurcht vor Christus.	21 Be subject to one another out of reverence for Christ.
22 Ihr Frauen, ordnet euch euren Männern unter wie dem Herrn (Christus);	22 Wives should be subject to their husbands as to the Lord,
23 denn der Mann ist das Haupt der Frau, wie auch Christus das Haupt der Kirche ist; er hat sie gerettet, denn sie ist sein Leib.	23 since, as Christ is head of the Church and saves the whole body, so is a husband the head of his wife;
24 Wie aber die Kirche sich Christus unterordnet, sollen sich die Frauen in allem den Männern unterordnen.	24 and as the Church is subject to Christ, so should wives be to their husbands, in everything.
25 Ihr Männer, liebt eure Frauen, wie Christus die Kirche geliebt und sich für sie hingegeben hat,	25 Husbands should love their wives, just as Christ loved the Church and sacrificed himself for her
26 um sie im Wasser und durch das Wort rein und heilig zu machen.	26 to make her holy by washing her in cleansing water with a form of words,
27 So will er die Kirche herrlich vor sich erscheinen lassen, ohne Flecken, Falten oder andere Fehler; heilig soll sie sein und makellos.	27 so that when he took the Church to himself she would be glorious, with no speck or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and faultless.
28 Darum sind die Männer verpflichtet, ihre Frauen so zu lieben wie ihren eigenen Leib. Wer seine Frau liebt, liebt sich selbst.	28 In the same way, husbands must love their wives as they love their own bodies; for a man to love hiswife is for him to love himself.
29 Keiner hat je seinen eigenen Leib gehasst, sondern er nährt und pflegt ihn, wie auch Christus die Kirche.	29 A man never hates his own body, but he feeds it and looks after it; and that is the way Christ treats theChurch,
30 Denn wir sind Glieder seines Leibes.	30 because we are parts of his Body.
31 Darum wird der Mann Vater und Mutter verlassen und sich an seine Frau binden und die zwei werden ein Fleisch sein.	31 This is why a man leaves his father and mother and becomes attached to his wife, and the twobecome one flesh.
32 Dies ist ein tiefes Geheimnis; ich beziehe es auf Christus und die Kirche.	32 This mystery has great significance, but I am applying it to Christ and the Church.
33 Was euch angeht, so liebe jeder von euch seine Frau wie sich selbst, die Frau aber ehre den Mann.	33 To sum up: you also, each one of you, must love his wife as he loves himself; and let every wiferespect her husband.
