1 Au maître de chant. De David. Psaume. Seigneur, tu me sondes et me connais,	1 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2 que je m’assoie, que je me lève, tu le sais: bien avant que je n’y pense, tu le savais.	2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Que je sois en voyage ou couché, tu m’observes, tu me suivras en tous mes chemins.	3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 Les mots ne sont pas encore sur ma langue que déjà tu en connais le tout.	4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Tu fermes sur moi l’espace, derrière comme devant, et sur moi se pose ta main.	5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6 Ta science est pour moi un mystère, ce sont des hauteurs où je n’atteins pas.	6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 Où irai-je que ton esprit n’y soit, où fuir de devant ta face?	7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 Si je monte au ciel, tu y es, si je vais au dortoir des morts, tu m’y retrouves.	8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 Ne pourrais-je emprunter les ailes de l’aurore et qu’elles me déposent au-delà des mers?	9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Mais ce sera ta main qui m’y aura conduit, seule ta main droite peut ainsi m’emporter.	10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
11 Dirai-je alors: “Que les ténèbres m’enveloppent, j’ai fait choix de la nuit comme lumière”?	11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
12 Mais les ténèbres mêmes ne te sont pas obscures, et la nuit n’est pas moins lumière que le jour.	12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
13 C’est toi qui as créé mes reins, qui m’as tissé dans le sein de ma mère.	13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14 Je t’admire pour cet étonnant mystère; prodigieuses sont tes œuvres, mon âme le sait.	14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 Mes os n’échappaient pas à ta vue, lorsque j’étais formé dans le secret, brodé dans les profondeurs de la terre.	15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Tes yeux voyaient la suite de mes jours, ils étaient tous écrits sur ton livre, formés avant que le premier n’apparût.	16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17 Ô Dieu, que tes pensées me dépassent! Leur ensemble défie la raison;	17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 plus que le sable, leur nombre échappe à mes calculs, et je n’en finis pas d’être avec toi.	18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
19 Ô Dieu, si tu voulais faire périr le méchant et tenir les violents loin de moi!	19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20 Ils te trahissent de façon hypocrite, ils comptent pour rien tes desseins.	20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
21 Ne dois-je pas, Seigneur, haïr qui te déteste, avoir en horreur ceux qui te résistent?	21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
22 Je les déteste, ma haine est entière ils sont aussi pour moi des ennemis.	22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
23 Sonde-moi, ô Dieu, et connais mon cœur, éprouve-moi et connais mon désir;	23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24 vois si je me trace un chemin de mensonge et conduis-moi par le chemin des origines.	24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
