A Psalm of David, which he sang to the Lord because of the words of Cush, the son of Jemini.1 [Lament Of David Which he sang to Yahweh about Cush the Benjaminite] Yahweh my God, I takerefuge in you, save me from al my pursuers and rescue me,
O Lord, my God, in you I have hoped. Save me from all those who persecute me, and free me:2 or he wil savage me like a lion, carry me off with no one to rescue me.
lest at any time, like a lion, he might seize my soul, while there is no one to redeem me, nor any who can save.3 Yahweh my God, if I have done this: if injustice has stained my hands,
O Lord, my God, if there is iniquity in my hands, if I have done this:4 if I have repaid my al y with treachery or spared one who attacked me unprovoked,
if I have repaid those who rendered evils to me, may I deservedly fall away empty before my enemies:5 may an enemy hunt me down and catch me, may he trample my life into the ground and crush my vitalparts into the dust.Pause
let the enemy pursue my soul, and take hold of it, and trample my life into the earth, and drag down my glory into the dust.6 Arise, Yahweh, in your anger, rise up against the arrogance of my foes. Awake, my God, you demandjudgement.
Rise up, Lord, in your anger. And be exalted to the borders of my enemies. And rise up, O Lord my God, according to the precept that you commanded,7 Let the assembly of nations gather round you; return above it on high!
and a congregation of people will surround you. And, because of this, return on high.8 (Yahweh judges the nations.) Judge me, Yahweh, as my uprightness and my integrity deserve.
The Lord judges the people. Judge me, O Lord, according to my justice and according to my innocence within me.9 Put an end to the malice of the wicked, make the upright stand firm, you who discern hearts and minds,God the upright.
The wickedness of sinners will be consumed, and you will direct the just: the examiner of hearts and temperaments is God.10 God is a shield that protects me, saving the honest of heart.
Just is my help from the Lord, who saves the upright of heart.11 God is an upright judge, slow to anger, but a God at al times threatening
God is a just judge, strong and patient. How could he be angry throughout every day?12 for those who wil not repent. Let the enemy whet his sword, draw his bow and make ready;
Unless you will be converted, he will brandish his sword. He has extended his bow and made it ready.13 but he is making ready instruments of death for himself and tipping his arrows with fire;
And with it, he has prepared instruments of death. He has produced his arrows for those on fire.14 look at him: pregnant with malice, conceiving spite, he gives birth to treachery.
Behold him who has given birth to injustice: he has conceived sorrow and has begotten iniquity.15 He digs a trap, scoops it out, but he fal s into the snare he made himself.
He has opened a pit and enlarged it. And he has fallen into the hole that he made.16 His spite recoils on his own head, his brutality falls back on his own skul .
His sorrow will be turned upon his own head, and his iniquity will descend upon his highest point.17 I thank Yahweh for his saving justice. I sing to the name of the Most High.
I will confess to the Lord according to his justice, and I will sing a psalm to the name of the Lord Most High.
