Psalms 50

1 Unto the end. A Psalm of David,	1 A psalm of Asaph. The LORD, the God of gods, has spoken and summoned the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting.
2 when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he went to Bathsheba.	2 From Zion God shines forth. perfect in beauty.
3 Be merciful to me, O God, according to your great mercy. And, according to the plentitude of your compassion, wipe out my iniquity.	3 Our God comes and will not be silent! Devouring fire precedes, storming fiercely round about.
4 Wash me once again from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.	4 God summons the heavens above and the earth to the judgment of his people:
5 For I know my iniquity, and my sin is ever before me.	5 "Gather my faithful ones before me, those who made a covenant with me by sacrifice."
6 Against you only have I sinned, and I have done evil before your eyes. And so, you are justified in your words, and you will prevail when you give judgment.	6 The heavens proclaim divine justice, for God alone is the judge. Selah
7 For behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sinfulness did my mother conceive me.	7 "Listen, my people, I will speak; Israel, I will testify against you; God, your God, am I.
8 For behold, you have loved truth. The obscure and hidden things of your wisdom, you have manifested to me.	8 Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you, nor for your holocausts, set before me daily.
9 You will sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed. You will wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow.	9 I need no bullock from your house, no goats from your fold.
10 In my hearing, you will grant gladness and rejoicing. And the bones that have been humbled will exult.	10 For every animal of the forest is mine, beasts by the thousands on my mountains.
11 Turn your face away from my sins, and erase all my iniquities.	11 I know every bird of the heavens; the creatures of the field belong to me.
12 Create a clean heart in me, O God. And renew an upright spirit within my inmost being.	12 Were I hungry, I would not tell you, for mine is the world and all that fills it.
13 Do not cast me away from your face; and do not take your Holy Spirit from me.	13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
14 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and confirm me with an unsurpassed spirit.	14 Offer praise as your sacrifice to God; fulfill your vows to the Most High.
15 I will teach the unjust your ways, and the impious will be converted to you.	15 Then call on me in time of distress; I will rescue you, and you shall honor me."
16 Free me from blood, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue will extol your justice.	16 But to the wicked God says: "Why do you recite my commandments and profess my covenant with your lips?
17 O Lord, you will open my lips, and my mouth will announce your praise.	17 You hate discipline; you cast my words behind you!
18 For if you had desired sacrifice, I would certainly have given it, but with holocausts, you will not be delighted.	18 When you see thieves, you befriend them; with adulterers you throw in your lot.
19 A crushed spirit is a sacrifice to God. A contrite and humbled heart, O God, you will not spurn.	19 You give your mouth free rein for evil; you harness your tongue to deceit.
20 Act kindly, Lord, in your good will toward Zion, so that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.	20 You sit maligning your own kin, slandering the child of your own mother.
21 Then you will accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations, and holocausts. Then they will lay calves upon your altar.	21 When you do these things should I be silent? Or do you think that I am like you? I accuse you, I lay the charge before you.
	22 "Understand this, you who forget God, lest I attack you with no one to rescue.
	23 Those who offer praise as a sacrifice honor me; to the obedient I will show the salvation of God."
