CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINKING JAMES BIBLE
Unto the end. A Psalm of David,1 The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he went to Bathsheba.2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
Be merciful to me, O God, according to your great mercy. And, according to the plentitude of your compassion, wipe out my iniquity.3 Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
Wash me once again from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.4 He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
For I know my iniquity, and my sin is ever before me.5 Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
Against you only have I sinned, and I have done evil before your eyes. And so, you are justified in your words, and you will prevail when you give judgment.6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
For behold, I was conceived in iniquities, and in sinfulness did my mother conceive me.7 Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
For behold, you have loved truth. The obscure and hidden things of your wisdom, you have manifested to me.8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
You will sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed. You will wash me, and I will be made whiter than snow.9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
In my hearing, you will grant gladness and rejoicing. And the bones that have been humbled will exult.10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
Turn your face away from my sins, and erase all my iniquities.11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
Create a clean heart in me, O God. And renew an upright spirit within my inmost being.12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
Do not cast me away from your face; and do not take your Holy Spirit from me.13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and confirm me with an unsurpassed spirit.14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
I will teach the unjust your ways, and the impious will be converted to you.15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
Free me from blood, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue will extol your justice.16 But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
O Lord, you will open my lips, and my mouth will announce your praise.17 Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.
For if you had desired sacrifice, I would certainly have given it, but with holocausts, you will not be delighted.18 When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
A crushed spirit is a sacrifice to God. A contrite and humbled heart, O God, you will not spurn.19 Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.
Act kindly, Lord, in your good will toward Zion, so that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.20 Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.
Then you will accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations, and holocausts. Then they will lay calves upon your altar.21 These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.
