Isaiæ 45

VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Hæc dicit Dominus christo meo Cyro, cujus apprehendi dexteram, ut subjiciam ante faciem ejus gentes, et dorsa regum vertam, et aperiam coram eo januas, et portæ non claudentur :	1 Thus says Yahweh to his anointed one, to Cyrus whom, he says, I have grasped by his right hand, tomake the nations bow before him and to disarm kings, to open gateways before him so that their gates be closedno more:
2 Ego ante te ibo, et gloriosos terræ humiliabo ; portas æreas conteram, et vectes ferreos confringam :	2 I myself shal go before you, I shall level the heights, I shal shatter the bronze gateways, I shall smashthe iron bars.
3 et dabo tibi thesauros absconditos, et arcana secretorum, ut scias quia ego Dominus, qui voco nomen tuum, Deus Israël,	3 I shal give you secret treasures and hidden hoards of wealth, so that you will know that I am Yahweh,who cal you by your name, the God of Israel.
4 propter servum meum Jacob, et Israël, electum meum ; et vocavi te nomine tuo : assimilavi te, et non cognovisti me.	4 It is for the sake of my servant Jacob and of Israel my chosen one, that I have cal ed you by your name,have given you a title though you do not know me.
5 Ego Dominus, et non est amplius ; extra me non est deus ; accinxi te, et non cognovisti me :	5 I am Yahweh, and there is no other, there is no other God except me. Though you do not know me, Ihave armed you
6 ut sciant hi qui ab ortu solis et qui ab occidente, quoniam absque me non est : ego Dominus, et non est alter :	6 so that it may be known from east to west that there is no one except me. I am Yahweh, and there is noother,
7 formans lucem et creans tenebras, faciens pacem et creans malum : ego Dominus faciens omnia hæc.	7 I form the light and I create the darkness, I make well-being, and I create disaster, I, Yahweh, do althese things.
8 Rorate, cæli, desuper, et nubes pluant justum ; aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem, et justitia oriatur simul : ego Dominus creavi eum.	8 Rain down, you heavens, from above, and let the clouds pour down saving justice, let the earth openup and blossom with salvation, and let justice sprout with it; I, Yahweh, have created it!
9 Væ qui contradicit fictori suo, testa de samiis terræ ! Numquid dicet lutum figulo suo : Quid facis, et opus tuum absque manibus est ?	9 Woe to anyone who argues with his Maker, one earthenware pot among many! Does the clay say to itspotter, 'What are you doing? Your work has no hands!'
10 Væ qui dicit patri : Quid generas ? et mulieri : Quid parturis ?	10 Woe to anyone who asks a father, 'Why are you begetting?' and a woman, 'Why are you giving birth?'
11 Hæc dicit Dominus, Sanctus Israël, plastes ejus : Ventura interrogate me ; super filios meos et super opus manuum mearum mandate mihi.	11 Thus says Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel and his Maker: I am asked for signs regarding my sons, Iam given orders about the work I do.
12 Ego feci terram, et hominem super eam creavi ego : manus meæ tetenderunt cælos, et omni militiæ eorum mandavi.	12 It was I who made the earth and I created human beings on it, mine were the hands that spread outthe heavens and I have given the orders to all their array.
13 Ego suscitavi eum ad justitiam, et omnes vias ejus dirigam ; ipse ædificabit civitatem meam, et captivitatem meam dimittet, non in pretio neque in muneribus, dicit Dominus Deus exercituum.	13 I myself have raised him in saving justice and I shall make all paths level for him. He will rebuild mycity and bring my exiles home without ransom or indemnity, says Yahweh Sabaoth.
14 Hæc dicit Dominus : Labor Ægypti, et negotiatio Æthiopiæ, et Sabaim viri sublimes ad te transibunt, et tui erunt ; post te ambulabunt, vincti manicis pergent, et te adorabunt, teque deprecabuntur. Tantum in te est Deus, et non est absque te deus.	14 Thus says Yahweh: The produce of Egypt, the commerce of Cush and the men of Seba, tall ofstature, wil come over to you and belong to you. They will fol ow you, walking in chains, they wil bow beforeyou, they wil pray to you, 'With you alone is God, and there is no other! The gods do not exist.'
15 Vere tu es Deus absconditus, Deus Israël, salvator.	15 Truly, you are a God who conceals himself, God of Israel, Saviour!
16 Confusi sunt, et erubuerunt omnes : simul abierunt in confusionem fabricatores errorum.	16 They are shamed and humbled, every one of them, humiliated they go, the makers of idols.
17 Israël salvatus est in Domino salute æterna ; non confundemini, et non erubescetis usque in sæculum sæculi.	17 Israel wil be saved by Yahweh, saved everlastingly. You will never be ashamed or humiliated for everand ever.
18 Quia hæc dicit Dominus creans cælos, ipse Deus formans terram et faciens eam, ipse plastes ejus ; non in vanum creavit eam : ut habitaretur formavit eam : Ego Dominus, et non est alius.	18 For thus says Yahweh, the Creator of the heavens -- he is God, who shaped the earth and made it,who set it firm; he did not create it to be chaos, he formed it to be lived in: I am Yahweh, and there is no other.
19 Non in abscondito locutus sum, in loco terræ tenebroso ; non dixi semini Jacob frustra : Quærite me : ego Dominus loquens justitiam, annuntians recta.	19 I have not spoken in secret, in some dark corner of the underworld. I did not say, 'Offspring of Jacob,search for me in chaos!' I am Yahweh: I proclaim saving justice, I say what is true.
20 Congregamini, et venite, et accedite simul qui salvati estis ex gentibus : nescierunt qui levant lignum sculpturæ suæ, et rogant deum non salvantem.	20 Assemble, come, al of you gather round, survivors of the nations. They have no knowledge, thosewho parade their wooden idols and pray to a god that cannot save.
21 Annuntiate, et venite, et consiliamini simul. Quis auditum fecit hoc ab initio, ex tunc prædixit illud ? numquid non ego Dominus, et non est ultra deus absque me ? Deus justus, et salvans non est præter me.	21 Speak up, present your case, let them put their heads together! Who foretold this in the past, whorevealed it long ago? Was it not I, Yahweh? There is no other god except me, no saving God, no Saviour exceptme!
22 Convertimini ad me, et salvi eritis, omnes fines terræ, quia ego Deus, et non est alius.	22 Turn to me and you wil be saved, al you ends of the earth, for I am God, and there is no other.
23 In memetipso juravi ; egredietur de ore meo justitiæ verbum, et non revertetur : quia mihi curvabitur omne genu, et jurabit omnis lingua.	23 By my own self I swear it; what comes from my mouth is saving justice, it is an irrevocable word: Alshall bend the knee to me, by me every tongue shall swear,
24 Ergo in Domino, dicet, meæ sunt justitiæ et imperium ; ad eum venient, et confundentur omnes qui repugnant ei.	24 saying, 'In Yahweh alone are saving justice and strength,' until al those who used to rage at him cometo him in shame.
25 In Domino justificabitur, et laudabitur omne semen Israël.	25 In Yahweh the whole race of Israel finds justice and glory.
