1 Queste sono le generazioni di Aronne e di Mosè, nel giorno in cui il Signore parlò a Mosè sul monte Sinai.	1 These were the descendants of Aaron and Moses, at the time when Yahweh spoke to Moses onMount Sinai.
2 Ecco i nomi dei figli d'Aronne: Nadab, suo primogenito, Abiu, Eleazar e Itamar.	2 These were the names of Aaron's sons: Nadab the eldest, then Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.
3 Questi sono i nomi dei sacerdoti figli di Aronnè che furono unti ed ebbero le mani ripiene e consacrate per esercitare il sacerdozio;	3 Such were the names of Aaron's sons, priests anointed and invested with the powers of thepriesthood.
4 Ma Nadab e Abiu morirono senza figli nel deserto del Sinai, mentre offrivano del fuoco profano nel cospetto del Signore, e quindi esercitarono il sacerdozio, alla presenza di Aronne loro padre, Eleazar e Itamar.	4 Nadab and Abihu died in Yahweh's presence, in the desert of Sinai, when they offered unauthorisedfire before Yahweh. They left no children and so it fel to Eleazar and Ithamar to exercise the priesthood undertheir father Aaron.
5 E il Signore parlò a Mosè, dicendo:	5 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
6 Fa' avvicinare la tribù di Levi e falla comparire dinanzi al sacerdote Aronne, affinchè lo servano, e veglino,	6 'Muster the tribe of Levi and put it at the disposal of the priest Aaron: they must be at his service.
7 osservino tutto ciò che riguarda il culto del popolo dinanzi al Tabernacolo della testimonianza,	7 They wil undertake the duties incumbent on him and the whole community before the Tent of Meeting,in serving the Dwel ing,
8 custodiscano gli arredi del Tabernacolo e ne facciano il servizio.	8 and they will be in charge of al the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting and undertake the dutiesincumbent on the Israelites in serving the Dwel ing.
9 Donerai i leviti	9 You wil present the Levites to Aaron and his sons as men dedicated; they wil be given to him by theIsraelites.

12 « Ho preso i leviti dai figli d'Israele in luogo di ogni primogenito che apre il seno materno tra i figli d'Israele; e i leviti saranno miei,	12 'Look, I myself have chosen the Levites from the Israelites instead of all the first-born, those whoemerge first from the womb in Israel; the Levites therefore belong to me.
13 perchè ogni primogenito è mio. Dacché percossi i primogeniti nella terra d'Egitto, io mi consacrai tutti i primi nati in Israele, dall'uomo all'animale: sono miei: io sono il Signore ».	13 For every first-born belongs to me. On the day when I struck down al the first-born in Egypt, Iconsecrated al the first-born in Israel, human and animal, to be my own. They are mine, Yahweh's.'
14 Il Signore parlò a Mosè nel deserto del Sinai, dicendo:	14 Yahweh spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai and said:
15 « Fa' il censimento dei figli di Levi, tutti i maschi da un mese in su, secondo le case dei loro padri e le loro famiglie ».	15 'You must take a census of Levi's descendants by families and clans; al the males of the age of onemonth and over wil be counted.'
16 Mosè ne fece il censimento, come il Signore aveva comandato.	16 At Yahweh's word Moses took a census of them, as Yahweh had ordered.
17 Ecco i figli di Levi trovati secondo il loro nome: Gerson, Caat, Merari.	17 These were the names of Levi's sons: Gershon, Kohath and Merari.
18 Figli di Gerson: Lebni e Semei;	18 These were the names of Gershon's sons by their clans: Libni and Shimei;
19 Figli di Caat: Amram e Iesaar, Ebron e Oziel;	19 Kohath's sons by their clans: Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel;
20 Figli di Merari: Moholi e Musi.	20 Merari's sons by their clans: Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of Levi, grouped by families.
21 Da Gerson usciron le due famiglie dei Lebniti e dei Semeiti,	21 From Gershon were descended the Libnite and Shimeite clans; these were the Gershonite clans.
22 la popolazione delle quali, contata da un mese in su, fu di sette mila cinquecento.	22 Their ful number, counting the males of one month and over, came to seven thousand five hundred.

27 La discendenza di Caat avrà le famiglie degli Amramiti, dei Gesaariti, degli Ebroniti e degli Ozieliti. Queste son le famiglie dei Caatiti numerate secondo i loro nomi,	27 From Kohath were descended the Amramite, Izharite, Hebronite and Uzzielite clans; these were theKohathite clans.
28 i maschi da un mese in su sono otto mila seicento: essi avran cura del santuario	28 Their ful number, counting the males of one month and over, came to eight thousand three hundred.They were in charge of the sanctuary.
29 e si accamperanno dalla parte del mezzodì,	29 The Kohathite clans pitched their camp on the south side of the Dwel ing.
30 il loro principe sarà Elisafan, figlio di Oziel;	30 The leader of the house of the Kohathite clans was Elizaphan son of Uzziel.
31 avran cura dell'arca, della tavola, del candelabro, degli altari, dei vasi del santuario che servono al ministero, del velo e di tutti gli altri oggetti di questa specie.	31 They were in charge of the ark, the table, the lamp-stand, the altars, the sacred vessels used in theliturgy, and the curtain with al its fittings.
32 Il principe dei principi dei leviti, Eleazaro figlio del sacerdote Aronne, sopraintenderà a quelli che han la custodia del santuario.	32 The chief of the Levite leaders was Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest. He supervised the peopleresponsible for the sanctuary.
33 Da Merari discendono le famiglie dei Moholiti e dei Musiti, numerati secondo i loro nomi:	33 From Merari were descended the Mahlite and Mushite clans; these were the Merarite clans.
34 « Tutti i maschi da un mese in su sono sei mila duecento:	34 Their ful number, counting the males of one month and over, came to six thousand two hundred.
35 il loro principe è Suriel figlio di Abihaiel; si accamperanno a settentrione	35 The leader of the House of the Merarite clans was Zuriel, son of Abihail. They pitched their camp onthe north side of the Dwel ing.
36 e saranno affidate a loro le assi del Tabernacolo, le sbarre, le colonne colle loro basi, e tutto ciò che appartiene a tal servizio,	36 The Merarites were in charge of the framework of the Dwelling, with its crossbars, poles, sockets andal its accessories and fittings,
37 le colonne dell'atrio d'intorno con le loro basi, i pioli e le funi.	37 and also the poles round the court, with their sockets, pegs and cords.
38 Mosè e Aronne con i suoi figli si accamperanno dinanzi al Tabernacolo dell'alleanza, ad oriente, e custodiranno il santuario in mezzo ai figli d'Israele: qualunque estraneo vi si accosti sarà messo a morte ».	38 Final y, on the east side, in front of the Dwel ing, in front of the Tent of Meeting, towards the east, wasthe camp of Moses and Aaron and his sons, who had charge of the sanctuary on behalf of the Israelites. 41 e prendi per me i leviti in luogo di tutti i primogeniti dei figli d'Israele, così pure i loro bestiami invece di tutti i primogeniti dei bestiami dei figli d'Israele. Io sono il Signore ».	41 You will then present the Levites to me, Yahweh, instead of Israel, and similarly the Levites' cattleinstead of the first-born cattle of the Israelites.'
42 Mosè fece il censimento dei primogeniti dei figli d'Israele, come il Signore aveva ordinato,	42 As Yahweh ordered, Moses took a census of al the first-born of the Israelites.
43 e i maschi da un mese in su, numerati secondo i loro nomi, furono ventiduemila duecentosettantatrè.	43 The total count, by name, of the first-born from the age of one month and over came to twenty-twothousand two hundred and seventy-three.
44 Il Signore parlò a Mosè, dicendo:	44 Yahweh then spoke to Moses and said:
45 « Prendi i leviti in luogo dei primogeniti dei figli d'Israele, così pure i bestiami dei leviti in luogo del loro bestiamee i leviti saranno miei: Io sono il Signore.	45 'Take the Levites instead of al the first-born of the Israelites, and the Levites' cattle instead of theircattle; the Levites will be mine, Yahweh's.
46 Per il riscatto dei duecentosettantatrè primogeniti dei figli d'Israele che sopravanzano il numero dei leviti,	46 For the ransom of the two hundred and seventy-three first-born of the Israelites in excess of thenumber of Levites,
47 prenderai cinque sicli per testa,secondo la misura del santuario. Il siclo contiene ventioboli.	47 you wil take five shekels for each, by the sanctuary shekel, at twenty gerah to the shekel;
48 Darai tal danaro ad Aronne ed ai suoi figli come prezzo dei primogeniti che sono di più ».	48 you wil then give this money to Aaron and his sons as the ransom for the extra number.'
49 E Mose, preso il danaro per quelli che eran di più dei leviti che riscattavano	49 Moses took the ransom money for the extra ones unransomed by the Levites;
50 i primogeniti dei figli d'Israele, mille trecentosessantacinque sicli secondo la misura del santuario,	50 he took the money for the first-born of the Israelites: one thousand three hundred and sixty-fiveshekels, by the sanctuary shekel;
51 lo diede ad Aronne e ai suoi figli secondo l'ordine che il Signore gli aveva dato.	51 and Moses then handed over their ransom money to Aaron and his sons, at Yahweh's bidding, asYahweh had ordered Moses.
