Amos 4

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ascoltate questa parola, o vacche grasse che state sopra le montagne di Samaria, voi che opprimete i deboli, che schiacciate ì poveri, che dite ai vostri padroni: « Portate e noi berremo ».	1 Listen to this saying, you cows of Bashan living on the hil of Samaria, exploiting the weak and il -treating the poor, saying to your husbands, 'Bring us something to drink!'
2 Il Signore Dio ha giurato per la sua santità: « Ecco vengono sopra di voi dei giorni in cui v'infilzeranno sugli spiedi, e ciò che resterà di voi sarà messo in caldaie bollenti.	2 The Lord God has sworn by his holiness: Look, the days wil soon be on you when he wil use hooks todrag you away and fish-hooks for the very last of you;
3 E uscirete per le brecce, l'una addosso all'altra, e sarete gettati in Armon — dice il Signore.	3 through the breaches in the wal you wil leave, each one straight ahead, and be herded away towardsHermon -declares Yahweh.
4 Andate a Betel ad agire empiamente, a Galgala a moltiplicare le prevaricazioni, portate nel mattino le vostre vittime, e le vostre decime nei tre giorni.	4 Go to Bethel, and sin, to Gilgal, and sin even harder! Bring your sacrifices each morning, your tithesevery third day,
5 E offrite col lievito dei sacrifizi di lode, annunziate delle oblazioni volontarie, pubblicatele; dacché a voi così piace, o figli d'Israele, — dice il Signore Dio.	5 burn your thank-offering of leaven and widely publicise your free-wil offerings, for this, children ofIsrael, is what makes you happy -declares the Lord Yahweh.
6 Per questo io vi diedi l'allegamento dei denti in tutte le vostre città e la mancanza del pane in tutte le vostre dimore; eppure non siete tornati a me — dice il Signore Dio.	6 I even gave you clean teeth in all your towns and a shortage of food in al your vil ages and stil youwould not come back to me -declares Yahweh.
7 E allora io impedii alla pioggia di venire a voi, quando mancavano ancora tre mesi alla mietitura, feci piovere sopra una città e sopra un'altra città non feci piovere: una parte era rinfrescata dalla pioggia, e l'altra, non avendo da me la pioggia, era riarsa.	7 I even withheld the rain from you ful three months before harvest-time; I caused rain to fall in one townand caused no rain to fal in another; one field was rained on and the next for want of rain dried up;
8 E due e tre città andarono ad un'altra città per bere l'acqua, e non si dissetarono: eppure voi non siete tornati a me — dice il Signore.	8 two towns, three towns went tottering to one town for water to drink but went unsatisfied, and stil youwould not come back to me -declares Yahweh.
9 Vi colpii col vento infocato e colla ruggine; i vostri numerosi giardini, le vostre vigne, i vostri uliveti, i vostri figli li ha divorati l'eruca; eppure non siete tornati a me — dice il Signore.	9 I struck you with blight and mildew, I dried up your gardens and vineyards; the locust devoured your figtrees and olive trees and stil you would not come back to me -declares Yahweh.
10 Io inviai in mezzo a voi la morte nella maniera dell'Egitto, feci perir sotto la spada la vostra gioventù, fino a far prendere i vostri stessi cavalli; e feci giungere alle vostre narici la putredine dei vostri accimpamenti; eppure non siete tornati a me — dice il Signore.	10 I sent plague on you like Egypt's plague, I slaughtered your young men with the sword and at thesame time your horses were captured; I fil ed your nostrils with the stench of your camps and stil you would notcome back to me -declares Yahweh.
11 Io vi ho distrutti, come Dio distrusse Sodoma e Gomorra, e voi siete diventati come un tizzone sottratto ad un incendio; eppure non siete tornati a me — dice il Signore.	11 I overturned you as God overturned Sodom and Gomorrah; you were like a brand snatched from theblaze and stil you would not come back to me -declares Yahweh.
12 Per questo io ti farò queste cose, o Israele, e quando te le avrò fatte, preparati ad andare incentro al tuo Dio, o Israele.	12 So this, Israel, is what I plan to do to you. Because I am going to do this to you, Israel, prepare tomeet your God!
13 Infatti Colui che forma le montagne, e crea i venti, e fa sentire agli uomini la sua parola, e produce la nebbia del mattino, e cammina sopra i luoghi piti alti della terra si chi ama il Signore Dio degli eserciti ».	13 For look, he it is who forges the mountains, creates the wind, who reveals his mind to humankind,changes the dawn into darkness and strides on the heights of the world: Yahweh, God Sabaoth, is his name.
