1 Gesù riprese a parlar loro in parabole e disse:	1 And responding, Jesus again spoke to them in parables, saying:
2 "E' simile il regno dei cieli a un re il quale fece un banchetto di nozze per suo figlio.	2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who was king, who celebrated a wedding for his son.
3 Egli mandò i suoi servi a chiamare coloro che erano stati invitati alle nozze; ma questi non vollero venire.	3 And he sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding. But they were not willing to come.
4 Di nuovo mandò altri servi dicendo: "Dite agli invitati: ecco, ho preparato il mio pranzo: i miei buoi e gli animali ingrassati sono già stati macellati e tutto è pronto; venite alle nozze".	4 Again, he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell the invited: Behold, I have prepared my meal. My bulls and fatlings have been killed, and all is ready. Come to the wedding.’
5 Ma essi, noncuranti, andarono chi ai propri campi, chi ai propri affari.	5 But they ignored this and they went away: one to his country estate, and another to his business.
6 Altri poi, presi i servi, li maltrattarono e li uccisero.	6 Yet truly, the rest took hold of his servants and, having treated them with contempt, killed them.
7 Il re, adiratosi, inviò i suoi eserciti ad annientare quegli omicidi e a incendiarne la città.	7 But when the king heard this, he was angry. And sending out his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and he burned their city.
8 Dice quindi ai servi: "Il banchetto nuziale è pronto, ma gli invitati non ne erano degni.	8 Then he said to his servants: ‘The wedding, indeed, has been prepared. But those who were invited were not worthy.
9 Andate dunque ai crocicchi delle vie e chiamate alle nozze tutti quelli che troverete".	9 Therefore, go out to the ways, and call whomever you will find to the wedding.’
10 Andarono quei servi per le vie e radunarono tutti quelli che trovarono, buoni e cattivi; e così la sala si riempì di commensali.	10 And his servants, departing into the ways, gathered all those whom they found, bad and good, and the wedding was filled with guests.
11 Entrato il re a vedere i commensali, trovò là un uomo che non indossava la veste nuziale.	11 Then the king entered to see the guests. And he saw a man there who was not clothed in a wedding garment.
12 Gli dice: "Amico, come mai sei entrato qui senza la veste nuziale?". Egli ammutolì.	12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how is it that you have entered here without having a wedding garment?’ But he was dumbstruck.
13 Allora il re disse ai suoi servitori: "Legatelo mani e piedi e gettatelo nelle tenebre esteriori: là sarà pianto e stridore di denti".	13 Then the king said to the ministers: ‘Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 Infatti molti sono chiamati, ma pochi eletti".	14 For many are called, but few are chosen.’ ”
15 Allora i farisei, ritiratisi, tennero consiglio per vedere come coglierlo in fallo nei suoi discorsi.	15 Then the Pharisees, going out, took counsel as to how they might entrap him in speech.
16 Mandarono dunque a lui i propri discepoli, insieme agli erodiani, per dirgli: "Maestro, sappiamo che sei veritiero e che insegni la via di Dio con verità e che non hai soggezione di nessuno; infatti non guardi in faccia ad alcuno.	16 And they sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying: “Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and that you teach the way of God in truth, and that the influence of others is nothing to you. For you do not consider the reputation of men.
17 Dicci dunque il tuo parere: è lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare?".	17 Therefore, tell us, how does it seem to you? Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar, or not?”
18 Gesù, conoscendo la loro malizia, disse: "Perché volete tentarmi, ipocriti?	18 But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said: “Why do you test me, you hypocrites?
19 Mostratemi la moneta del tributo". Essi gli presentarono un denaro.	19 Show me the coin of the census tax.” And they offered him a denarius.
20 Dice loro: "Di chi è l'effigie con l'iscrizione?".	20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose image is this, and whose inscription?”
21 Rispondono: "Di Cesare". Ed egli disse loro: "Date dunque a Cesare quello che è di Cesare e a Dio quello che è di Dio".	21 They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Then render to Caesar what is of Caesar; and to God what is of God.”
22 All'udir ciò rimasero stupiti e, lasciatolo, se ne andarono.	22 And hearing this, they wondered. And having left him behind, they went away.
23 In quel giorno si avvicinarono a lui dei sadducei, quelli che affermano non esserci risurrezione, e lo interrogarono	23 In that day, the Sadducees, who say there is to be no resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him,
24 dicendo: "Maestro, Mosè ha ordinato: Se uno muore senza figli, suo fratello ne sposerà la vedova e così darà a suo fratello una discendenza.	24 saying: “Teacher, Moses said: If anyone will have died, having no son, his brother shall marry his wife, and he shall raise up offspring to his brother.
25 Ora c'erano fra noi sette fratelli. Il primo appena sposato, morì e, non avendo discendenza, lasciò la moglie a suo fratello.	25 Now there were seven brothers with us. And the first, having taken a wife, died. And having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother:
26 La stessa cosa accadde al secondo e al terzo, fino al settimo.	26 similarly with the second, and the third, even to the seventh.
27 Dopo di tutti, morì anche la donna.	27 And last of all, the woman also passed away.
28 Ora, nella risurrezione, di chi fra i sette sarà moglie? Infatti appartenne a tutti".	28 In the resurrection, then, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.”
29 Gesù rispose: "Siete in errore, poiché non conoscete le Scritture né la potenza di Dio.	29 But Jesus responded to them by saying: “You have gone astray by knowing neither the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 Infatti nella risurrezione non si prende né moglie né marito, ma si è come angeli di Dio in cielo.	30 For in the resurrection, they shall neither marry, nor be given in marriage. Instead, they shall be like the Angels of God in heaven.
31 Quanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto ciò che a voi disse Dio:	31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken by God, saying to you:
32 Io sono il Dio di Abramo, il Dio di Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe? Dio non è un Dio di morti, ma di viventi".	32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
33 All'udir ciò, le folle rimanevano stupite per la sua dottrina.	33 And when the crowds heard this, they wondered at his doctrine.
34 I farisei, saputo che Gesù aveva messo a tacere i sadducei, si radunarono insieme,	34 But the Pharisees, hearing that he had caused the Sadducees to be silent, came together as one.
35 e uno di loro, dottore della legge, lo interrogò per metterlo alla prova:	35 And one of them, a doctor of the law, questioned him, to test him:
36 "Maestro, qual è il precetto più grande della legge?".	36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Egli rispose: "Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta la tua anima, con tutta la tua mente.	37 Jesus said to him: “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God from all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38 Questo è il più grande e il primo dei precetti.	38 This is the greatest and first commandment.
39 Ma il secondo è simile ad esso: Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso.	39 But the second is similar to it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 Da questi due precetti dipende tutta la legge e i profeti".	40 On these two commandments the entire law depends, and also the prophets.”
41 Radunatisi i farisei, Gesù li interrogò	41 Then, when the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
42 dicendo: "Che cosa pensate del Cristo? Di chi è figlio?". Gli rispondono: "Di Davide".	42 saying: “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “David’s.”
43 Dice loro: "Come dunque Davide, sotto l'influsso dello Spirito, lo chiama Signore quando dice:	43 He said to them: “Then how can David, in the Spirit, call him Lord, saying:
44 Ha detto il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra finché ponga i tuoi nemici come sgabello dei tuoi piedi?	44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool?’
45 Se, dunque, Davide lo chiama Signore, come può essere suo figlio?".	45 So then, if David calls him Lord, how can he be his son?”
46 Nessuno seppe rispondergli una parola; e da quel giorno nessuno osò più fargli delle domande.	46 And no one was able to respond to him a word. And neither did anyone dare, from that day forward, to question him.
