1 Gesù riprese a parlar loro in parabole e disse:	1 And Jesus answering, spoke again in parables to them, saying:
2 "E' simile il regno dei cieli a un re il quale fece un banchetto di nozze per suo figlio.	2 The kingdom of heaven is likened to a king, who made a marriage for his son.
3 Egli mandò i suoi servi a chiamare coloro che erano stati invitati alle nozze; ma questi non vollero venire.	3 And he sent his servants, to call them that were invited to the marriage; and they would not come.
4 Di nuovo mandò altri servi dicendo: "Dite agli invitati: ecco, ho preparato il mio pranzo: i miei buoi e gli animali ingrassati sono già stati macellati e tutto è pronto; venite alle nozze".	4 Again he sent other servants, saying: Tell them that were invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my beeves and fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come ye to the marriage.
5 Ma essi, noncuranti, andarono chi ai propri campi, chi ai propri affari.	5 But they neglected, and went their own ways, one to his farm, and another to his merchandise.
6 Altri poi, presi i servi, li maltrattarono e li uccisero.	6 And the rest laid hands on his servants, and having treated them contumeliously, put them to death.
7 Il re, adiratosi, inviò i suoi eserciti ad annientare quegli omicidi e a incendiarne la città.	7 But when the king had heard of it, he was angry, and sending his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and burnt their city.
8 Dice quindi ai servi: "Il banchetto nuziale è pronto, ma gli invitati non ne erano degni.	8 Then he saith to his servants: The marriage indeed is ready; but they that were invited were not worthy.
9 Andate dunque ai crocicchi delle vie e chiamate alle nozze tutti quelli che troverete".	9 Go ye therefore into the highways; and as many as you shall find, call to the marriage.
10 Andarono quei servi per le vie e radunarono tutti quelli che trovarono, buoni e cattivi; e così la sala si riempì di commensali.	10 And his servants going forth into the ways, gathered together all that they found, both bad and good: and the marriage was filled with guests.
11 Entrato il re a vedere i commensali, trovò là un uomo che non indossava la veste nuziale.	11 And the king went in to see the guests: and he saw there a man who had not on a wedding garment.
12 Gli dice: "Amico, come mai sei entrato qui senza la veste nuziale?". Egli ammutolì.	12 And he saith to him: Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? But he was silent.
13 Allora il re disse ai suoi servitori: "Legatelo mani e piedi e gettatelo nelle tenebre esteriori: là sarà pianto e stridore di denti".	13 Then the king said to the waiters: Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 Infatti molti sono chiamati, ma pochi eletti".	14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
15 Allora i farisei, ritiratisi, tennero consiglio per vedere come coglierlo in fallo nei suoi discorsi.	15 Then the Pharisees going, consulted among themselves how to insnare him in his speech.
16 Mandarono dunque a lui i propri discepoli, insieme agli erodiani, per dirgli: "Maestro, sappiamo che sei veritiero e che insegni la via di Dio con verità e che non hai soggezione di nessuno; infatti non guardi in faccia ad alcuno.	16 And they sent to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying: Master, we know that thou art a true speaker, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou dost not regard the person of men.
17 Dicci dunque il tuo parere: è lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare?".	17 Tell us therefore what dost thou think, is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
18 Gesù, conoscendo la loro malizia, disse: "Perché volete tentarmi, ipocriti?	18 But Jesus knowing their wickedness, said: Why do you tempt me, ye hypocrites?
19 Mostratemi la moneta del tributo". Essi gli presentarono un denaro.	19 Shew me the coin of the tribute. And they offered him a penny.
20 Dice loro: "Di chi è l'effigie con l'iscrizione?".	20 And Jesus saith to them: Whose image and inscription is this?
21 Rispondono: "Di Cesare". Ed egli disse loro: "Date dunque a Cesare quello che è di Cesare e a Dio quello che è di Dio".	21 They say to him: Caesar's. Then he saith to them: Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God, the things that are God's.
22 All'udir ciò rimasero stupiti e, lasciatolo, se ne andarono.	22 And hearing this they wondered, and leaving him, went their ways.
23 In quel giorno si avvicinarono a lui dei sadducei, quelli che affermano non esserci risurrezione, e lo interrogarono	23 That day there came to him the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection; and asked him,
24 dicendo: "Maestro, Mosè ha ordinato: Se uno muore senza figli, suo fratello ne sposerà la vedova e così darà a suo fratello una discendenza.	24 Saying: Master, Moses said: If a man die having no son, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up issue to his brother.
25 Ora c'erano fra noi sette fratelli. Il primo appena sposato, morì e, non avendo discendenza, lasciò la moglie a suo fratello.	25 Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first having married a wife, died; and not having issue, left his wife to his brother.
26 La stessa cosa accadde al secondo e al terzo, fino al settimo.	26 In like manner the second, and the third, and so on to the seventh.
27 Dopo di tutti, morì anche la donna.	27 And last of all the woman died also.
28 Ora, nella risurrezione, di chi fra i sette sarà moglie? Infatti appartenne a tutti".	28 At the resurrection therefore whose wife of the seven shall she be? for they all had her.
29 Gesù rispose: "Siete in errore, poiché non conoscete le Scritture né la potenza di Dio.	29 And Jesus answering, said to them: You err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
30 Infatti nella risurrezione non si prende né moglie né marito, ma si è come angeli di Dio in cielo.	30 For in the resurrection they shall neither marry nor be married; but shall be as the angels of God in heaven.
31 Quanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto ciò che a voi disse Dio:	31 And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken by God, saying to you:
32 Io sono il Dio di Abramo, il Dio di Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe? Dio non è un Dio di morti, ma di viventi".	32 I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
33 All'udir ciò, le folle rimanevano stupite per la sua dottrina.	33 And the multitudes hearing it, were in admiration at his doctrine.
34 I farisei, saputo che Gesù aveva messo a tacere i sadducei, si radunarono insieme,	34 But the Pharisees hearing that he had silenced the Sadducees, came together:
35 e uno di loro, dottore della legge, lo interrogò per metterlo alla prova:	35 And one of them, a doctor of the law, asking him, tempting him:
36 "Maestro, qual è il precetto più grande della legge?".	36 Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?
37 Egli rispose: "Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta la tua anima, con tutta la tua mente.	37 Jesus said to him: Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole mind.
38 Questo è il più grande e il primo dei precetti.	38 This is the greatest and the first commandment.
39 Ma il secondo è simile ad esso: Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso.	39 And the second is like to this: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
40 Da questi due precetti dipende tutta la legge e i profeti".	40 On these two commandments dependeth the whole law and the prophets.
41 Radunatisi i farisei, Gesù li interrogò	41 And the Pharisees being gathered together, Jesus asked them,
42 dicendo: "Che cosa pensate del Cristo? Di chi è figlio?". Gli rispondono: "Di Davide".	42 Saying: What think you of Christ? whose son is he? They say to him: David's.
43 Dice loro: "Come dunque Davide, sotto l'influsso dello Spirito, lo chiama Signore quando dice:	43 He saith to them: How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying:
44 Ha detto il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra finché ponga i tuoi nemici come sgabello dei tuoi piedi?	44 The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on my right hand, until I make thy enemies thy footstool?
45 Se, dunque, Davide lo chiama Signore, come può essere suo figlio?".	45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
46 Nessuno seppe rispondergli una parola; e da quel giorno nessuno osò più fargli delle domande.	46 And no man was able to answer him a word; neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.
