1 Gesù riprese a parlar loro in parabole e disse:	1 Jesus again in reply spoke to them in parables, saying,
2 "E' simile il regno dei cieli a un re il quale fece un banchetto di nozze per suo figlio.	2 "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.
3 Egli mandò i suoi servi a chiamare coloro che erano stati invitati alle nozze; ma questi non vollero venire.	3 He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come.
4 Di nuovo mandò altri servi dicendo: "Dite agli invitati: ecco, ho preparato il mio pranzo: i miei buoi e gli animali ingrassati sono già stati macellati e tutto è pronto; venite alle nozze".	4 A second time he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast."'
5 Ma essi, noncuranti, andarono chi ai propri campi, chi ai propri affari.	5 Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.
6 Altri poi, presi i servi, li maltrattarono e li uccisero.	6 The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
7 Il re, adiratosi, inviò i suoi eserciti ad annientare quegli omicidi e a incendiarne la città.	7 The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
8 Dice quindi ai servi: "Il banchetto nuziale è pronto, ma gli invitati non ne erano degni.	8 Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come.
9 Andate dunque ai crocicchi delle vie e chiamate alle nozze tutti quelli che troverete".	9 Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.'
10 Andarono quei servi per le vie e radunarono tutti quelli che trovarono, buoni e cattivi; e così la sala si riempì di commensali.	10 The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests.
11 Entrato il re a vedere i commensali, trovò là un uomo che non indossava la veste nuziale.	11 But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.
12 Gli dice: "Amico, come mai sei entrato qui senza la veste nuziale?". Egli ammutolì.	12 He said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence.
13 Allora il re disse ai suoi servitori: "Legatelo mani e piedi e gettatelo nelle tenebre esteriori: là sarà pianto e stridore di denti".	13 Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'
14 Infatti molti sono chiamati, ma pochi eletti".	14 Many are invited, but few are chosen."
15 Allora i farisei, ritiratisi, tennero consiglio per vedere come coglierlo in fallo nei suoi discorsi.	15 Then the Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap him in speech.
16 Mandarono dunque a lui i propri discepoli, insieme agli erodiani, per dirgli: "Maestro, sappiamo che sei veritiero e che insegni la via di Dio con verità e che non hai soggezione di nessuno; infatti non guardi in faccia ad alcuno.	16 They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone's opinion, for you do not regard a person's status.
17 Dicci dunque il tuo parere: è lecito o no pagare il tributo a Cesare?".	17 Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?"
18 Gesù, conoscendo la loro malizia, disse: "Perché volete tentarmi, ipocriti?	18 Knowing their malice, Jesus said, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?
19 Mostratemi la moneta del tributo". Essi gli presentarono un denaro.	19 Show me the coin that pays the census tax." Then they handed him the Roman coin.
20 Dice loro: "Di chi è l'effigie con l'iscrizione?".	20 He said to them, "Whose image is this and whose inscription?"
21 Rispondono: "Di Cesare". Ed egli disse loro: "Date dunque a Cesare quello che è di Cesare e a Dio quello che è di Dio".	21 They replied, "Caesar's." At that he said to them, "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."
22 All'udir ciò rimasero stupiti e, lasciatolo, se ne andarono.	22 When they heard this they were amazed, and leaving him they went away.
23 In quel giorno si avvicinarono a lui dei sadducei, quelli che affermano non esserci risurrezione, e lo interrogarono	23 On that day Sadducees approached him, saying that there is no resurrection. They put this question to him,
24 dicendo: "Maestro, Mosè ha ordinato: Se uno muore senza figli, suo fratello ne sposerà la vedova e così darà a suo fratello una discendenza.	24 saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies without children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up descendants for his brother.'
25 Ora c'erano fra noi sette fratelli. Il primo appena sposato, morì e, non avendo discendenza, lasciò la moglie a suo fratello.	25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died and, having no descendants, left his wife to his brother.
26 La stessa cosa accadde al secondo e al terzo, fino al settimo.	26 The same happened with the second and the third, through all seven.
27 Dopo di tutti, morì anche la donna.	27 Finally the woman died.
28 Ora, nella risurrezione, di chi fra i sette sarà moglie? Infatti appartenne a tutti".	28 Now at the resurrection, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had been married to her."
29 Gesù rispose: "Siete in errore, poiché non conoscete le Scritture né la potenza di Dio.	29 Jesus said to them in reply, "You are misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God.
30 Infatti nella risurrezione non si prende né moglie né marito, ma si è come angeli di Dio in cielo.	30 At the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven.
31 Quanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto ciò che a voi disse Dio:	31 And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God,
32 Io sono il Dio di Abramo, il Dio di Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe? Dio non è un Dio di morti, ma di viventi".	32 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."
33 All'udir ciò, le folle rimanevano stupite per la sua dottrina.	33 When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.
34 I farisei, saputo che Gesù aveva messo a tacere i sadducei, si radunarono insieme,	34 When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together,
35 e uno di loro, dottore della legge, lo interrogò per metterlo alla prova:	35 and one of them [a scholar of the law] tested him by asking,
36 "Maestro, qual è il precetto più grande della legge?".	36 "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?"
37 Egli rispose: "Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, con tutta la tua anima, con tutta la tua mente.	37 He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.
38 Questo è il più grande e il primo dei precetti.	38 This is the greatest and the first commandment.
39 Ma il secondo è simile ad esso: Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso.	39 The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
40 Da questi due precetti dipende tutta la legge e i profeti".	40 The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."
41 Radunatisi i farisei, Gesù li interrogò	41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
42 dicendo: "Che cosa pensate del Cristo? Di chi è figlio?". Gli rispondono: "Di Davide".	42 saying, "What is your opinion about the Messiah? Whose son is he?" They replied, "David's."
43 Dice loro: "Come dunque Davide, sotto l'influsso dello Spirito, lo chiama Signore quando dice:	43 He said to them, "How, then, does David, inspired by the Spirit, call him 'lord,' saying:
44 Ha detto il Signore al mio Signore: Siedi alla mia destra finché ponga i tuoi nemici come sgabello dei tuoi piedi?	44 'The Lord said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet"'?
45 Se, dunque, Davide lo chiama Signore, come può essere suo figlio?".	45 If David calls him 'lord,' how can he be his son?"
46 Nessuno seppe rispondergli una parola; e da quel giorno nessuno osò più fargli delle domande.	46 No one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.
