Proverbi 22

LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Un nome famoso val più di molta ricchezza e la reputazione più dell'argento e l'oro.	1 Fame is preferable to great wealth, favour, to silver and gold.
2 Il ricco e il povero s'incontrano insieme: il Signore li ha fatti entrambi.	2 Rich and poor rub shoulders, Yahweh has made them both.
3 L'uomo assennato vede la disgrazia e si mette al riparo; i semplici vi passano accanto e ci cascano.	3 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
4 Frutto dell'umiltà è il timor del Signore, la ricchezza, la gloria e la vita.	4 The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh, and riches, honour and life.
5 Spine e lacci sulla strada del perverso; chi ha cura di sé ne sta lontano.	5 Thorns and snares line the path of the wilful, whoever values life will stay at a distance.
6 Istruisci il giovane sulla via da seguire; anche da vecchio non se ne allontanerà.	6 Give a lad a training suitable to his character and, even when old, he wil not go back on it.
7 Il ricco domina sui poveri e il debitore è schiavo del creditore.	7 The rich lords it over the poor, the borrower is the lender's slave.
8 Chi semina iniquità raccoglie disgrazia e la verga della sua collera colpisce lui stesso.	8 Whoever sows injustice reaps disaster, and the rod of such anger wil disappear.
9 L'occhio benevolo sarà benedetto, perché ha dato del suo pane al povero.	9 A kindly eye wil earn a blessing, such a person shares out food with the poor.
10 Scaccia il beffardo e la discordia se ne andrà e cesseranno lite e insulto.	10 Expel the mocker and strife goes too, law-suits and dislike die down.
11 Chi ama la purezza di cuore e ha la grazia sulle labbra, il re è suo amico.	11 Whoever loves the pure of heart and is gracious of speech has the king for a friend.
12 Gli occhi del Signore proteggono la scienza, ma egli confonde le parole del bugiardo.	12 Yahweh's eyes protect knowledge, but he confounds deceitful speeches.
13 Dice il pigro: "C'è il leone fuori! Sulla strada sarò sbranato!".	13 'There is a lion outside,' says the idler, 'I shal be kil ed in the street!'
14 Fossa profonda è la bocca della donna altrui; colui che il Signore riprova vi cadrà.	14 The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit, into it fal s the man whom Yahweh rebukes.
15 La stoltezza è legata al cuor del giovane: la verga del castigo lo allontana da lei.	15 Fol y is anchored in the heart of a youth, the whip of instruction wil rid him of it.
16 Chi opprime il povero lo fa ricco; chi dà al ricco, solamente impoverisce.	16 Harsh treatment enriches the poor, but a gift impoverishes the rich.
17 Tendi l'orecchio e ascolta le parole dei sapienti, applica il tuo cuore perché tu le comprenda!	17 Give ear, listen to the sayings of the sages, and apply your heart to what I know,
18 Son deliziose se le custodisci nel tuo seno, se resteranno insieme sopra le tue labbra.	18 for it wil be a delight to keep them deep within you to have them al ready on your lips.
19 Affinché sia il Signore la tua fiducia, voglio istruirti oggi intorno alla tua via.	19 So that your trust may be in Yahweh, it is you whom I wish to instruct today.
20 Non ho scritto per te trenta parole, riguardanti consigli e conoscenza,	20 Have I not written for you thirty chapters of advice and knowledge,
21 perché tu possa far conoscere la verità, rispondere a coloro che ti interrogano?	21 to make you know the certainty of true sayings, so that you can return with sound answers to thosewho sent you?
22 Non spogliare il povero, perché è povero e non opprimere alla porta l'infelice,	22 Do not despoil the weak, for he is weak, and do not oppress the poor at the gate,
23 perché il Signore difenderà la loro causa e rapirà la vita ai loro aggressori.	23 for Yahweh takes up their cause, and extorts the life of their extortioners.
24 Non diventare amico di un infuriato e non frequentare l'iracondo,	24 Do not make friends with one who gives way to anger, make no one quick-tempered a companion ofyours,
25 perché tu non impari i suoi costumi e non ci trovi un laccio alla tua vita.	25 for fear you learn such behaviour and in it find a snare for yourself.
26 Non essere di quelli che offrono la destra, che si fanno garanti per i debiti:	26 Do not be one of those who go guarantor, who go surety for debts:
27 se tu non hai da rendere, ti toglieranno anche il letto di sotto.	27 if you have no means of paying your bed wil be taken from under you.
28 Non spostare il vecchio confine che posero i tuoi padri.	28 Do not displace the ancient boundary-stone set by your ancestors.
29 Tu vedi un uomo svelto al suo lavoro? Starà alla presenza dei sovrani. Non starà più davanti a gente oscura.	29 You see someone alert at his business? His aim wil be to serve kings; not for him the service of theobscure.
