Job 34

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Then Elihu continued and said:	1 Elihú tomó la palabra y dijo:
2 Hear, O wise men, my discourse, and you that have knowledge, hear me!	2 ¡Escuchen, sabios, mis palabras, y ustedes, los expertos, préstenme atención!
3 For the ear tests words, as the taste does food.	3 Porque el oído discierne las palabras como el paladar gusta los alimentos.
4 Let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn between us what is good.	4 Decidamos entre nosotros lo que es recto, reconozcamos todos juntos lo que es bueno.
5 For Job has said, "I am innocent, but God has taken what is my due.	5 Porque Job declara: «Yo tengo razón, pero Dios me privó de mi derecho.
6 Notwithstanding my right I am set at nought; in my wound the arrow rankles, sinless though I am."	6 El miente en lo que concierne a mi caso; mi llaga es incurable, aunque no cometí ninguna falta».
7 What man is like Job? He drinks in blasphemies like water,	7 ¿Hay alguien como Job, que bebe los sarcasmos como agua,
8 Keeps company with evildoers and goes along with wicked men,	8 que va en compañía de los malhechores y camina con los hombres perversos?
9 When he says, "It profits a man nought that he is pleasing to God."	9 Porque él dice: «Al hombre no le sirve de nada tratar de obtener el favor de Dios».
10 Therefore, men of understanding, hearken to me: far be it from God to do wickedness; far from the Almighty to do wrong!	10 Por eso, escúchenme, hombres sensatos: ¡lejos de Dios la maldad, y del Todopoderoso, la injusticia!
11 Rather, he requites men for their conduct, and brings home to a man his way of life.	11 Porque él retribuye al hombre según sus obras y trata a cada uno conforme a su conducta.
12 Surely, God cannot act wickedly, the Almighty cannot violate justice.	12 ¡No, no es cierto que Dios hace el mal y que el Todopoderoso tergiversa el derecho!
13 Who gave him government over the earth, or who else set all the land in its place?	13 ¿Quién le ha encomendado la tierra y quién lo encargó del mundo entero?
14 If he were to take back his spirit to himself, withdraw to himself his breath,	14 Si él retirara su espíritu y recogiera su aliento de vida,
15 All flesh would perish together, and man would return to the dust.	15 todos los vivientes expirarían a la vez y los hombres volverían al polvo.
16 Now, do you, O Job, hear this! Hearken to the words I speak!	16 Si tienes inteligencia, escucha esto, presta atención al sonido de mis palabras.
17 Can an enemy of justice indeed be in control, or will you condemn the supreme Just One,	17 ¿Sabría gobernar al Justo, al Poderoso?
18 Who says to a king, "You are worthless!" and to nobles, "You are wicked!"	18 ¡A él, que llama «¡Inútil!» a un rey y «¡Malvados!» a los dignatarios,
19 Who neither favors the person of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor? For they are all the work of his hands;	19 que no toma partido por los príncipes ni favorece al rico en perjuicio del pobre, porque todos son obra de sus manos!
20 in a moment they die, even at midnight. He brings on nobles, and takes them away, removing the powerful without lifting a hand;	20 Ellos mueren en un instante, en plena noche; él hiere a los nobles, y desaparecen, depone al hombre fuerte sin la ayuda de nadie.
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he beholds all his steps.	21 Porque sus ojos miran los caminos del hombre y él observa sus pasos:
22 There is no darkness so dense that evildoers can hide in it.	22 no hay tinieblas ni oscuridad donde puedan ocultarse los que hacen el mal.
23 For he forewarns no man of his time to come before God in judgment.	23 Porque él no fija al hombre una fecha para presentarse a juicio ante Dios:
24 Without a trial he breaks the mighty, and sets others in their stead,	24 él quebrante a los grandes sin previo examen y pone a otros en lugar de ellos.
25 Therefore he discerns their works; he turns at night and crushes them.	25 Así, porque él conoce todas sus acciones, los derriba en una noche, y quedan aplastados.
	26 Los abofetea como a malhechores en un lugar que está a la vista de todos,
27 Because they turned away from him and heeded none of his ways,	27 porque se negaron a seguirlo y no comprendieron todos sus caminos,
28 But caused the cries of the poor to reach him, so that he heard the plea of the afflicted.	28 haciendo que llegara hasta él el grito del pobre y que él escuchara el clamor de los oprimidos.
29 If he remains tranquil, who then can condemn? If he hides his face, who then can behold him?	29 Si él se queda inmóvil, ¿quién lo sacudirá? Si cubre su rostro, ¿quién lo verá? El vigila, sin embargo, a naciones e individuos
	30 para que no reine ningún hombre impío, uno de esos que son una trampa para el pueblo.
31 When anyone says to God, "I was misguided; I will offend no more.	31 Tú solo tienes que decir a Dios: «Yo fui seducido, no volveré a hacer el mal;
32 Teach me wherein I have sinned; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more,"	32 instrúyeme, hasta que pueda ver. Si cometí una injusticia, no voy a reincidir».
33 Would you then say that God must punish, since you reject what he is doing? It is you who must choose, not I; speak, therefore, what you know.	33 ¿Acaso él retribuirá según tu parecer, siendo así que tú has despreciado su instrucción? Ya que eres tú el que decide, no yo, dile todo lo que sepas.
34 Men of understanding will say to me, every wise man who hears my views:	34 Los hombres sensatos me dirán y también todo sabio que me escuche:
35 "Job speaks without intelligence, and his words are without sense."	35 «Job no sabe lo que dice y sus palabras carecen de sentido».
36 Let Job be tried to the limit, since his answers are those of the impious;	36 Que Job sea examinado hasta el final por haber respondido como un hombre perverso.
37 For he is adding rebellion to his sin by brushing off our arguments and addressing many words to God.	37 Porque él, a su pecado, añade la rebeldía, aplaude en medio de nosotros y multiplica sus palabras contra Dios.
