1 Then Elihu continued and said:	1 Elihú reanudó su discurso y dijo:
2 Hear, O wise men, my discourse, and you that have knowledge, hear me!	2 Escuchad, sabios, mis palabras, vosotros los doctos, dadme oídos.
3 For the ear tests words, as the taste does food.	3 Porque el oído aprecia las palabras, como el paladar gusta los manjares.
4 Let us discern for ourselves what is right; let us learn between us what is good.	4 Decidamos entre nosotros lo que es justo, sepamos juntos lo que es bueno.
5 For Job has said, "I am innocent, but God has taken what is my due.	5 Pues Job ha dicho: «Yo soy justo, pero Dios me quita mi derecho;
6 Notwithstanding my right I am set at nought; in my wound the arrow rankles, sinless though I am."	6 mi juez se muestra cruel para conmigo, mi llaga es incurable, aunque no tengo culpa.»
7 What man is like Job? He drinks in blasphemies like water,	7 ¿Qué hombre hay como Job, que bebe el sarcasmo como agua,
8 Keeps company with evildoers and goes along with wicked men,	8 que anda en compañía de malhechores, y camina con malvados?
9 When he says, "It profits a man nought that he is pleasing to God."	9 Pues él ha dicho: «Nada gana el hombre con buscar el agrado de Dios.»
10 Therefore, men of understanding, hearken to me: far be it from God to do wickedness; far from the Almighty to do wrong!	10 Así pues, escuchadme, como hombres sensatos. Lejos de Dios el mal, de Sadday la injusticia;
11 Rather, he requites men for their conduct, and brings home to a man his way of life.	11 que la obra del hombre, él se la paga, y según su conducta trata a cada uno.
12 Surely, God cannot act wickedly, the Almighty cannot violate justice.	12 En verdad, Dios no hace el mal, no tuerce el derecho Sadday.
13 Who gave him government over the earth, or who else set all the land in its place?	13 ¿Quién, si no, le confió la tierra, quién le encargó del mundo entero?
14 If he were to take back his spirit to himself, withdraw to himself his breath,	14 Si él retirara a sí su espíritu, si hacia sí recogiera su soplo,
15 All flesh would perish together, and man would return to the dust.	15 a una expiraría toda carne, el hombre al polvo volvería.
16 Now, do you, O Job, hear this! Hearken to the words I speak!	16 Si tienes inteligencia, escucha esto, presta oído al son de mis palabras.
17 Can an enemy of justice indeed be in control, or will you condemn the supreme Just One,	17 ¿Podría gobernar un enemigo del derecho? ¿al Justo poderoso vas a condenar?
18 Who says to a king, "You are worthless!" and to nobles, "You are wicked!"	18 ¡Aquel que dice a un rey: «¡Inútil!», «¡Malvados!» a los nobles,
19 Who neither favors the person of princes, nor respects the rich more than the poor? For they are all the work of his hands;	19 que no hace acepción de príncipes, ni prefiere al grande sobre el débil, ¡pues todos son obra de sus manos!
20 in a moment they die, even at midnight. He brings on nobles, and takes them away, removing the powerful without lifting a hand;	20 Mueren ellos de repente a media noche, perecen los grandes y pasan, y él depone a un tirano sin esfuerzo.
21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he beholds all his steps.	21 Pues sus ojos vigilan los caminos del hombre, todos sus pasos observa.
22 There is no darkness so dense that evildoers can hide in it.	22 No hay tinieblas ni sombra donde ocultarse los agentes del mal.
23 For he forewarns no man of his time to come before God in judgment.	23 No asigna él un plazo al hombre para que a juicio se presente ante Dios.
24 Without a trial he breaks the mighty, and sets others in their stead,	24 Quebranta a los grandes sin examen, y pone a otros en su sitio.
25 Therefore he discerns their works; he turns at night and crushes them.	25 Es que él conoce sus acciones, de noche los sacude y se les pisa.
	26 Como a criminales los azota, en lugar público los encadena,
27 Because they turned away from him and heeded none of his ways,	27 porque se apartaron de su seguimiento, y no comprendieron todos sus caminos,
28 But caused the cries of the poor to reach him, so that he heard the plea of the afflicted.	28 hasta hacer llegar a él el gemido del débil y hacerle oír el clamor de los humildes.
29 If he remains tranquil, who then can condemn? If he hides his face, who then can behold him?	29 Mas si él sigue inmóvil, sin que nadie le perturbe, si vela su faz, sin que nadie le perciba, es que se apiada de naciones e individuos,
	30 libra al impío del cepo de la angustia,
31 When anyone says to God, "I was misguided; I will offend no more.	31 Cuando éste dice a Dios: «He sido seducido, no volveré a hacer mal;
32 Teach me wherein I have sinned; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more,"	32 si he pecado instrúyeme, si he cometido injusticia, no reincidiré».
33 Would you then say that God must punish, since you reject what he is doing? It is you who must choose, not I; speak, therefore, what you know.	33 ¿Acaso, según tú, tendría él que castigar, ya que rechazas sus decisiones? Como eres tú el que aprecias, y no yo, di todo lo que sepas.
34 Men of understanding will say to me, every wise man who hears my views:	34 Mas los hombres sensatos me dirán, así como todo sabio que me escuche:
35 "Job speaks without intelligence, and his words are without sense."	35 «No habla Job cuerdamente, no son sensatas sus palabras.
36 Let Job be tried to the limit, since his answers are those of the impious;	36 Que sea Job probado a fondo, por sus respuestas dignas de malvados.
37 For he is adding rebellion to his sin by brushing off our arguments and addressing many words to God.	37 Porque a su pecado la rebeldía añade, pone fin al derecho entre nosotros, y multiplica contra Dios sus palabras.»
