1 Le donne savie edificano le lor case; Ma la stolta la sovverte con le sue mani	1 Wisdom builds her house, but Folly tears hers down with her own hands.
2 Chi cammina nella sua dirittura riverisce il Signore; Ma chi è stravolto nelle sue vie lo sprezza	2 He who walks uprightly fears the LORD, but he who is devious in his ways spurns him.
3 Nella bocca dello stolto è la bacchetta dell’alterezza; Ma le labbra de’ savi li guardano	3 In the mouth of the fool is a rod for his back, but the lips of the wise preserve them.
4 Dove non son buoi, il granaio è vuoto; Ma l’abbondanza della ricolta è per la forza del bue	4 Where there are no oxen, the crib remains empty; but large crops come through the strength of the bull.
5 Il testimonio verace non mente; Ma il falso testimonio sbocca bugie	5 A truthful witness does not lie, but a false witness utters lies.
6 Lo schernitore cerca la sapienza, e non la trova punto; Ma la scienza agevolmente si acquista dall’uomo intendente	6 The senseless man seeks in vain for wisdom, but knowledge is easy to the man of intelligence.
7 Vattene via d’innanzi all’uomo stolto, E d’innanzi a colui, nel quale non avrai conosciute labbra di scienza	7 To avoid the foolish man, take steps! But knowing lips one meets with by surprise.
8 La sapienza dell’uomo è di considerar la sua via; Ma la follia degli stolti è inganno	8 The shrewd man's wisdom gives him knowledge of his way, but the folly of fools is their deception.
9 Gli stolti si fanno beffe del commetter misfatto; Ma fra gli uomini diritti è la benevolenza	9 Guilt lodges in the tents of the arrogant, but favor in the house of the just.
10 Il cuore di ciascuno conosce l’amaritudine dell’anima sua; Ed altresì alcuno strano non è mescolato nella sua allegrezza	10 The heart knows its own bitterness, and in its joy no one else shares.
11 La casa degli empi sarà distrutta; Ma il tabernacolo degli uomini diritti fiorirà	11 The house of the wicked will be destroyed, but the tent of the upright will flourish.
12 Vi è tal via che pare diritta all’uomo, Il fine della quale son le vie della morte	12 Sometimes a way seems right to a man, but the end of it leads to death!
13 Come di troppo ridere duole il cuore, Così la fine dell’allegrezza è dolore	13 Even in laughter the heart may be sad, and the end of joy may be sorrow.
14 Chi è sviato di cuore sarà saziato delle sue vie; E più ch’esso lo sarà l’uomo da bene delle sue	14 The scoundrel suffers the consequences of his ways, and the good man reaps the fruit of his paths.
15 Lo scempio crede ogni cosa; Ma l’avveduto considera i suoi passi	15 The simpleton believes everything, but the shrewd man measures his steps.
16 Il savio teme, e si ritrae dal male; Ma lo stolto trascorre, e si tien sicuro	16 The wise man is cautious and shuns evil; the fool is reckless and sure of himself.
17 Chi è pronto all’ira commette follia; E l’uomo malizioso è odiato	17 The quick-tempered man makes a fool of himself, but the prudent man is at peace.
18 Gli scempi erederanno la stoltizia; Ma i prudenti coroneranno il lor capo di scienza	18 The adornment of simpletons is folly, but shrewd men gain the crown of knowledge.
19 I malvagi saranno abbassati davanti a’ buoni; E gli empi saranno alle porte del giusto	19 Evil men must bow down before the good, and the wicked, at the gates of the just.
20 Il povero è odiato eziandio dal suo prossimo; Ma molti son gli amici del ricco	20 Even by his neighbor the poor man is hated, but the friends of the rich are many.
21 Chi sprezza il suo prossimo pecca; Ma beato chi ha pietà de’ poveri	21 He sins who despises the hungry; but happy is he who is kind to the poor!
22 Quelli che macchinano del male non sono eglino traviati? Ma benignità e verità sarà usata inverso coloro che pensano del bene	22 Do not those who plot evil go astray? But those intent on good gain kindness and constancy.
23 In ogni fatica vi è del profitto; Ma il parlar delle labbra torna solo in inopia	23 In all labor there is profit, but mere talk tends only to penury.
24 Le ricchezze de’ savi sono la lor corona; Ma la follia degli stolti è sempre follia	24 The crown of the wise is resourcefulness; the diadem of fools is folly.
25 Il testimonio verace libera le anime; Ma il falso sbocca bugie	25 The truthful witness saves lives, but he who utters lies is a betrayer.
26 Nel timor del Signore vi è confidanza fortissima; E vi sarà un ricetto per li figliuoli di colui che teme Iddio.	26 In the fear of the LORD is a strong defense; even for one's children he will be a refuge.
27 Il timor del Signore è una fonte di vita, Per ritrarsi da’ lacci della morte	27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, that a man may avoid the snares of death.
28 La magnificenza del re è nella moltitudine del popolo; Ma la ruina del principe è nel mancamento della gente	28 In many subjects lies the glory of the king; but if his people are few, it is the prince's ruin.
29 Chi è lento all’ira è di gran prudenza; Ma chi è pronto al cruccio eccita la follia	29 The patient man shows much good sense, but the quick-tempered man displays folly at its height.
30 Il cuor sano è la vita delle carni; Ma l’invidia è il tarlo delle ossa	30 A tranquil mind gives life to the body, but jealousy rots the bones.
31 Chi oppressa il povero fa onta a colui che l’ha fatto; Ma chi ha pietà del bisognoso l’onora	31 He who oppresses the poor blasphemes his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy glorifies him.
32 L’empio sarà traboccato per la sua malvagità; Ma il giusto spera eziandio nella sua morte	32 The wicked man is overthrown by his wickedness, but the just man finds a refuge in his honesty.
33 La sapienza riposa nel cuore dell’uomo intendente, Ed è riconosciuta in mezzo degli stolti	33 In the heart of the intelligent wisdom abides, but in the bosom of fools it is unknown.
34 La giustizia innalza la nazione; Ma il peccato è il vituperio de’ popoli	34 Virtue exalts a nation, but sin is a people's disgrace.
35 Il favor del re è verso il servitore intendente; Ma la sua indegnazione è contro a quello che reca vituperio	35 The king favors the intelligent servant, but the worthless one incurs his wrath.
