1 Αφου δε το τειχος εκτισθη, και εστησα τας θυρας, και διωρισθησαν οι πυλωροι και οι ψαλτωδοι και οι Λευιται,	1 Now, when the wal had been rebuilt and I had hung the doors, the gatekeepers (the singers and theLevites) were then appointed.
2 προσεταξα περι της Ιερουσαλημ τον αδελφον μου Ανανι και τον Ανανιαν τον αρχοντα του φρουριου? διοτι ητο ως ανθρωπος πιστος και φοβουμενος τον Θεον, υπερ πολλους.	2 I entrusted the administration of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and to Hananiah the commander ofthe citadel, for he was a more trustworthy, God-fearing man than many others.
3 Και ειπα προς αυτους, Ας μη ανοιγωνται αι πυλαι της Ιερουσαλημ εωσου θερμανη ο ηλιος? και εκεινων ετι παροντων, να κλειωνται αι θυραι και να ασφαλιζωνται και φυλακαι να διοριζωνται εκ των κατοικων της Ιερουσαλημ, εκαστος εν τη φυλακη αυτου και εκαστος απεναντι της οικιας αυτου.	3 I said to them, 'The gates of Jerusalem must not be opened until the sun gets hot; and the doors mustbe shut and barred before it begins to go down. Detail guards from the residents of Jerusalem, each to his post,in front of his own house.'
4 Και η πολις ητο ευρυχωρος και μεγαλη, ο δε λαος ολιγος εν αυτη, και οικιαι δεν ησαν ωκοδομημεναι.	4 The city was large and spacious but the population was smal , and the houses had not been rebuilt.
5 Και εβαλεν ο Θεος μου εν τη καρδια μου να συναξω τους προκριτους και τους προεστωτας και τον λαον, δια να αριθμηθωσι κατα γενεαλογιαν. Και ευρηκα βιβλιον της γενεαλογιας εκεινων, οιτινες ανεβησαν κατ' αρχας και ευρηκα γεγραμμενον εν αυτω.	5 My God then inspired me to assemble the nobles, the officials and the people for the purpose of takinga census by families. I discovered the genealogical register of those who had returned in the first group, andthere I found entered:
6 Ουτοι ειναι οι ανθρωποι της επαρχιας, οι αναβαντες εκ της αιχμαλωσιας, εκ των μετοικισθεντων, τους οποιους μετωκισε Ναβουχοδονοσορ ο βασιλευς της Βαβυλωνος, και επιστρεψαντες εις Ιερουσαλημ και εις την Ιουδαιαν, εκαστος εις την πολιν αυτου?	6 These are the people of the province who returned from the captivity of the Exile, those whomNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had deported, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his owntown.
7 οι ελθοντες μετα Ζοροβαβελ, Ιησου, Νεεμια, Αζαρια, Ρααμια, Νααμανι, Μαροδοχαιου, Βιλσαν, Μισπερεθ, Βιγουαι, Νεουμ, Βαανα. Αριθμος των ανδρων του λαου Ισραηλ?	7 They were the ones who arrived with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani,Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:
8 υιοι Φαρως, δισχιλιοι εκατον εβδομηκοντα δυο.	8 sons of Parosh, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two;
9 Υιοι Σεφατια, τριακοσιοι εβδομηκοντα δυο.	9 sons of Shephatiah, three hundred and seventy-two;
10 Υιοι Αραχ, εξακοσιοι πεντηκοντα δυο.	10 sons of Arah, six hundred and fifty-two;
11 Υιοι Φααθ-μωαβ, εκ των υιων Ιησου και Ιωαβ, δισχιλιοι και οκτακοσιοι δεκαοκτω.	11 sons of Pahath-Moab, that is to say sons of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred andeighteen;
12 Υιοι Ελαμ, χιλιοι διακοσιοι πεντηκοντα τεσσαρες.	12 sons of Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four;
13 Υιοι Ζατθου, οκτακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα πεντε.	13 sons of Zattu, eight hundred and forty-five;
14 Υιοι Ζακχαι, επτακοσιοι εξηκοντα.	14 sons of Zaccai, seven hundred and sixty;
15 Υιοι Βιννουι, εξακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα οκτω.	15 sons of Binnui, six hundred and forty-eight;
16 Υιοι Βηβαι, εξακοσιοι εικοσιοκτω.	16 sons of Bebai, six hundred and twenty-eight;
17 Υιοι Αζγαδ, δισχιλιοι τριακοσιοι εικοσιδυο.	17 sons of Azgad, two thousand three hundred and twenty-two;
18 Υιοι Αδωνικαμ, εξακοσιοι εξηκοντα επτα.	18 sons of Adonikam, six hundred and sixty-seven;
19 Υιοι Βιγουαι, δισχιλιοι εξηκοντα επτα.	19 sons of Bigvai, two thousand and sixty-seven;
20 Υιοι Αδιν, εξακοσιοι πεντηκοντα πεντε.	20 sons of Adin, six hundred and fifty-five;
21 Υιοι Ατηρ εκ του Εζεκιου, ενενηκοντα οκτω.	21 sons of Ater, that is to say of Hezekiah, ninety-eight;
22 Υιοι Ασουμ, τριακοσιοι εικοσιοκτω.	22 sons of Hashum, three hundred and twenty-eight;
23 Υιοι Βησαι, τριακοσιοι εικοσιτεσσαρες.	23 sons of Bezai, three hundred and twenty-four;
24 Υιοι Αριφ, εκατον δωδεκα.	24 sons of Hariph, one hundred and twelve;
25 Υιοι Γαβαων, ενενηκοντα πεντε.	25 sons of Gibeon, ninety-five;
26 Ανδρες Βηθλεεμ και Νετωφα, εκατον ογδοηκοντα οκτω.	26 men of Bethlehem and Netophah, one hundred and eighty-eight;
27 Ανδρες Αναθωθ, εκατον εικοσιοκτω.	27 men of Anathoth, one hundred and twenty-eight;
28 Ανδρες Βαιθ-ασμαβεθ, τεσσαρακοντα δυο.	28 men of Beth-Azmaveth, forty-two;
29 Ανδρες Κιριαθ-ιαρειμ, Χεφειρα, και Βηρωθ, επτακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα τρεις.	29 men of Kiriath-Jearim, Chephirah and Beeroth, seven hundred and forty-three;
30 Ανδρες Ραμα και Γαβαα, εξακοσιοι εικοσι και εις.	30 men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred and twenty-one;
31 Ανδρες Μιχμας, εκατον εικοσιδυο.	31 men of Michmas, one hundred and twenty-two;
32 Ανδρες Βαιθηλ, και Γαι, εκατον εικοσιτρεις.	32 men of Bethel and Ai, one hundred and twenty-three;
33 Ανδρες της αλλης Νεβω, πεντηκοντα δυο.	33 men of the other Nebo, fifty-two;
34 Υιοι του αλλου Ελαμ, χιλιοι διακοσιοι πεντηκοντα τεσσαρες.	34 sons of the other Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four;
35 Υιοι Χαρημ, τριακοσιοι εικοσι.	35 sons of Harim, three hundred and twenty;
36 Υιοι Ιεριχω, τριακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα πεντε.	36 sons of Jericho, three hundred and forty-five;
37 Υιοι Λωδ, Αδιδ, και Ωνω, επτακοσιοι εικοσι και εις.	37 sons of Lod, Hadid and Ono, seven hundred and twenty-one;
38 Υιοι Σεναα, τρισχιλιοι εννεακοσιοι τριακοντα.	38 sons of Senaah, three thousand nine hundred and thirty.
39 Οι ιερεις? υιοι Ιεδαια, εκ του οικου Ιησου, εννεακοσιοι εβδομηκοντα τρεις.	39 The priests: sons of Jedaiah, of the House of Jeshua, nine hundred and seventy-three;
40 Υιοι Ιμμηρ, χιλιοι πεντηκοντα δυο.	40 sons of Immer, one thousand and fifty-two;
41 Υιοι Πασχωρ, χιλιοι διακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα επτα.	41 sons of Pashhur, one thousand two hundred and forty-seven;
42 Υιοι Χαρημ, χιλιοι δεκαεπτα.	42 sons of Harim, one thousand and seventeen.
43 Οι Λευιται? υιοι Ιησου εκ του Καδμιηλ, εκ των υιων Ωδαυια, εβδομηκοντα τεσσαρες.	43 The Levites: sons of Jeshua, of Kadmiel, of the sons of Hodiah, seventy-four.
44 Οι ψαλτωδοι? υιοι Ασαφ, εκατον τεσσαρακοντα οκτω.	44 The singers: sons of Asaph, one hundred and forty-eight.
45 Οι πυλωροι? υιοι Σαλλουμ, υιοι Ατηρ, υιοι Ταλμων, υιοι Ακκουβ, υιοι Ατιτα, υιοι Σωβαι, εκατον τριακοντα οκτω.	45 The gatekeepers: sons of Shal um, sons of Ater, sons of Talmon, sons of Akkub, sons of Hatita, sonsof Shobai, one hundred and thirty-eight.
46 Οι Νεθινειμ? υιοι Σιχα, υιοι Ασουφα, υιοι Ταββαωθ,	46 The temple slaves: sons of Ziha, sons of Hasupha, sons of Tabbaoth,
47 υιοι Κηρως, υιοι Σιαα, υιοι Φαδων,	47 sons of Keros, sons of Sia, sons of Padon,
48 υιοι Λεβανα, υιοι Αγαβα, υιοι Σαλμαι,	48 sons of Lebana, sons of Hagaba, sons of Shalmai,
49 υιοι Αναν, υιοι Γιδδηλ, υιοι Γααρ,	49 sons of Hanan, sons of Giddel, sons of Gahar,
50 υιοι Ρεαια, υιοι Ρεσιν, υιοι Νεκωδα,	50 sons of Reaiah, sons of Rezin, sons of Nekoda,
51 υιοι Γαζαμ, υιοι Ουζα, υιοι Φασεα,	51 sons of Gazzam, sons of Uzza, sons of Paseah,
52 υιοι Βησαι, υιοι Μεουνειμ, υιοι Ναφουσεσειμ,	52 sons of Besai, sons of the Meunites, sons of the Nephusites,
53 υιοι Βακβουκ, υιοι Ακουφα, υιοι Αρουρ,	53 sons of Bakbuk, sons of Hakupha, sons of Harhur,
54 υιοι Βασλιθ, υιοι Μειδα, υιοι Αρσα,	54 sons of Bazlith, sons of Mehida, sons of Harsha,
55 υιοι Βαρκως, υιοι Σισαρα, υιοι Θαμα,	55 sons of Barkos, sons of Sisera, sons of Temah,
56 υιοι Νεσια, υιοι Ατιφα.	56 sons of Nezaiah, sons of Hatipha.
57 Οι υιοι των δουλων του Σολομωντος? υιοι Σωται, υιοι Σωφερεθ, υιοι Φερειδα,	57 The sons of Solomon's slaves: sons of Sotai, sons of Sophereth, sons of Perida,
58 υιοι Ιααλα, υιοι Δαρκων, υιοι Γιδδηλ,	58 sons of Jaala, sons of Darkon, sons of Giddel,
59 υιοι Σεφατια, υιοι Αττιλ, υιοι Φοχερεθ απο Σεβαιμ, υιοι Αμων.	59 sons of Shephatiah, sons of Hattil, sons of Pochereth-ha-Zebaim, sons of Amon.
60 Παντες οι Νεθινειμ, και οι υιοι των δουλων του Σολομωντος, ησαν τριακοσιοι ενενηκοντα δυο.	60 The total of the temple slaves and the sons of Solomon's slaves: three hundred and ninety-two.
61 Ουτοι δε ησαν οι αναβαντες απο Θελ-μελαχ, Θελ-αρησα, Χερουβ, Αδδων, και Ιμμηρ? δεν ηδυναντο ομως να δειξωσι τον οικον της πατριας αυτων και το σπερμα αυτων, αν ησαν εκ του Ισραηλ?	61 The fol owing, who came from Tel-Melah, Tel-Harsha, Cherub, Addon and Immer, could not prove thattheir families and ancestry were of Israelite origin:
62 Υιοι Δαλαια, υιοι Τωβια, υιοι Νεκωδα, εξακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα δυο.	62 the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda: six hundred and forty-two.
63 Και εκ των ιερεων? υιοι Αβαια, υιοι Ακκως, υιοι Βαρζελλαι, οστις ελαβε γυναικα εκ των θυγατερων Βαρζελλαι του Γαλααδιτου και ωνομασθη κατα το ονομα αυτων.	63 And among the priests: the sons of Hobaiah, the sons of Hakkoz, the sons of Barzil ai -- who hadmarried one of the daughters of Barzil ai the Gileadite, whose name he adopted.
64 Ουτοι εζητησαν την καταγραφην αυτων μεταξυ των απαριθμηθεντων κατα γενεαλογιαν, και δεν ευρεθη? οθεν εξεβληθησαν απο της ιερατειας.	64 These had looked for their entries in the official genealogies but were not to be found there, and werehence disqualified from the priesthood.
65 Και ειπε προς αυτους ο Θιρσαθα, να μη φαγωσιν απο των αγιωτατων πραγματων, εωσου αναστηθη ιερευς μετα Ουριμ και Θουμμιμ.	65 Consequently, His Excel ency forbade them to eat any of the consecrated food until a priest appearedwho could consult urim and thummim.
66 Πασα η συναξις ομου ησαν τεσσαρακοντα δυο χιλιαδες τριακοσιοι εξηκοντα,	66 The whole assembly numbered forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty people,
67 εκτος των δουλων αυτων και των θεραπαινιδων αυτων, οιτινες ησαν επτακισχιλιοι τριακοσιοι τριακοντα επτα? και πλην τουτων διακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα πεντε ψαλτωδοι και ψαλτριαι.	67 not counting their slaves and maidservants to the number of seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven. They also had two hundred and forty-five male and female singers.
68 Οι ιπποι αυτων, επτακοσιοι τριακοντα εξ? αι ημιονοι αυτων, διακοσιαι τεσσαρακοντα πεντε?	68 They had four hundred and thirty-five camels and six thousand seven hundred and twenty donkeys.
69 αι καμηλοι, τετρακοσιαι τριακοντα πεντε? αι ονοι, εξακισχιλιαι επτακοσιαι εικοσι.	69 A certain number of heads of families contributed to the work. His Excel ency contributed onethousand gold drachmas, fifty bowls, and thirty priestly robes to the fund.
70 Και τινες εκ των αρχηγων των πατριων εδωκαν δια το εργον. Ο Θιρσαθα εδωκεν εις το θησαυροφυλακιον χιλιας δραχμας χρυσιου, πεντηκοντα φιαλας, πεντακοσιους τριακοντα ιερατικους χιτωνας.	70 And heads of families gave twenty thousand gold drachmas and two thousand two hundred silverminas to the work fund.
71 Και τινες εκ των αρχηγων των πατριων εδωκαν εις το θησαυροφυλακιον του εργου εικοσι χιλιαδας δραχμας χρυσιου και δυο χιλιαδας διακοσιας μνας αργυριου.	71 The gifts made by the rest of the people amounted to twenty thousand gold drachmas, two thousandsilver minas, and sixty-seven priestly robes.
72 Και το δοθεν απο του επιλοιπου λαου ητο εικοσι χιλιαδες δραχμαι χρυσιου, και δισχιλιαι μναι αργυριου, και εξηκοντα επτα ιερατικοι χιτωνες.	72 The priests, the Levites and some of the people lived in Jerusalem and thereabouts; the singers, thegatekeepers, and the temple slaves in their appropriate towns; and al the other Israelites, in their own towns.Now when the seventh month came round -- the Israelites being in their towns-
73 Ουτως οι ιερεις και οι Λευιται και οι πυλωροι και οι ψαλτωδοι και μερος εκ του λαου και οι Νεθινειμ και πας ο Ισραηλ, κατωκησαν εν ταις πολεσιν αυτων. Και οτε εφθασεν ο εβδομος μην, οι υιοι Ισραηλ ησαν εν ταις πολεσιν αυτων.
