Job 14

DOUAI-RHEIMS	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Man born of a woman, living for a short time, is filled with many miseries.	1 El hombre, nacido de mujer, tiene una vida breve y cargada de tormentos:
2 Who cometh forth like a flower, and is destroyed, and fleeth as a shadow, and never continueth in the same state.	2 como una flor, brota y se marchita; huye sin detenerse, como una sombra.
3 And dost thou think it meet to open thy eyes upon such an one, and to bring him into judgment with thee?	3 ¡Y sobre alguien así tú abres los ojos, lo enfrentas contigo en un juicio!
4 Who can make him clean that is conceived of unclean seed ? is it not thou who only art?	4 Pero ¿quién sacará lo puro de lo impuro? Nadie, ciertamente.
5 The days of man are short, and the number of his months is with thee: thou hast appointed his bounds which cannot be passed.	5 Ya que sus días están determinados y tú conoces el número de sus meses, ya que le has puesto un límite infranqueable,
6 Depart a little from him, that he may rest, until his wished for day come, as that of the hireling.	6 ¡aparta de él tu mirada y déjalo solo, para que disfrute de su jornada como un asalariado!
7 A tree hath hope: if it be cut, it groweth green again, and the boughs thereof sprout.	7 Para el árbol hay una esperanza: si es cortado, aún puede reverdecer y no dejará de tener retoños.
8 If its root be old in the earth, and its stock be dead in the dust:	8 Aunque su raíz haya envejecido en el suelo y su tronco esté muerto en el polvo,
9 At the scent of water, it shall spring, and bring forth leaves, as when it was first planted.	9 apenas siente el agua, produce nuevos brotes y echa ramas, como una planta joven.
10 But man when he shall be dead, and stripped and consumed, I pray you where is he?	10 Pero el hombre, cuando muere, queda inerte; el mortal que expira, ¿dónde está?
11 As if the waters should depart out of the sea, and an emptied river should be dried up:	11 El agua del mar se evapora, un río se agota y se seca:
12 So man when he is fallen asleep shall not rise again; till the heavens be broken, he shall not awake, nor rise up out of his sleep.	12 así el hombre se acuesta y no se levanta; desaparecerán los cielos, antes que él se despierte, antes que se alce de su sueño.
13 Who will grant me this, that thou mayest protect me in hell, and hide me till thy wrath pass, and appoint me a. time when thou wilt remember me?	13 ¡Ah, si tú me ocultaras en el Abismo, si me escondieras hasta que pase tu enojo y me fijaras un plazo para acordarte de mí!
14 Shall man that is dead, thinkest thou, live again? all the days in which I am now in warfare, I expect until my change come.	14 –Un hombre, una vez muerto, ¿podrá revivir?–. Entonces yo esperaría, todos los días de mi servicio, hasta que llegue mi relevo:
15 Thou shalt call me, and I will answer thee: to the work of thy hands thou shalt reach out thy right hand.	15 tú llamarías, y yo te respondería, ansiarías ver la obra de tus manos.
16 Thou indeed hast numbered my steps, but spare my sins.	16 Porque entonces no contarías mis pasos ni observarías mi pecado;
17 Thou hast sealed up my offences as it were in a bag, but hast cured my iniquity.	17 mi delito estaría bajo sello en una bolsa y cubrirías mi culpa con un enduido.
18 A mountain falling cometh to nought, and a rock is removed out of its place.	18 Pero la montaña cae y se desmorona, la roca es removida de su sitio;
19 Waters wear away the stones, and with inundation the ground by little and little is washed away: so in like manner thou shalt destroy man.	19 las aguas desgastan las piedras, al polvo de la tierra se lo lleva el aguacero: ¡así tú destruyes la esperanza del mortal!
20 Thou hast strengthened him for a little while, that he may pass away for ever: thou shalt change his face, and shalt send him away.	20 Lo abates para siempre, y él se va, desfiguras su rostro y lo despides.
21 Whether his children come to honour or dishonour, he shall not understand.	21 Se honra a sus hijos, pero él no lo sabe; si son envilecidos, él no se da cuenta.
22 But yet his flesh, while he shall live, shall have pain, and his soul shall mourn over him.	22 ¡Sólo en carne propia siente el sufrimiento, sólo por sí mismo está de duelo!
