LXXNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
υπολαβων δε βαλδαδ ο σαυχιτης λεγει1 Bildad the Shuhite spoke out and said:
μεχρι τινος λαλησεις ταυτα πνευμα πολυρημον του στοματος σου2 How long will you utter such things? The words from your mouth are like a mighty wind!
μη ο κυριος αδικησει κρινων η ο τα παντα ποιησας ταραξει το δικαιον3 Does God pervert judgment, and does the Almighty distort justice?
ει οι υιοι σου ημαρτον εναντιον αυτου απεστειλεν εν χειρι ανομιας αυτων4 If your children have sinned against him and he has left them in the grip of their guilt,
συ δε ορθριζε προς κυριον παντοκρατορα δεομενος5 Still, if you yourself have recourse to God and make supplication to the Almighty,
ει καθαρος ει και αληθινος δεησεως επακουσεται σου αποκαταστησει δε σοι διαιταν δικαιοσυνης6 Should you be blameless and upright, surely now he will awake for you and restore your rightful domain;
εσται ουν τα μεν πρωτα σου ολιγα τα δε εσχατα σου αμυθητα7 Your former state will be of little moment, for in time to come you will flourish indeed.
επερωτησον γαρ γενεαν πρωτην εξιχνιασον δε κατα γενος πατερων8 If you inquire of the former generations, and give heed to the experience of the fathers
χθιζοι γαρ εσμεν και ουκ οιδαμεν σκια γαρ εστιν ημων επι της γης ο βιος9 (As we are but of yesterday and have no knowledge, because our days on earth are but a shadow),
η ουχ ουτοι σε διδαξουσιν και αναγγελουσιν και εκ καρδιας εξαξουσιν ρηματα10 Will they not teach you and tell you and utter their words of understanding?
μη θαλλει παπυρος ανευ υδατος η υψωθησεται βουτομον ανευ ποτου11 Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the reed grass flourish without water?
ετι ον επι ριζης και ου μη θερισθη προ του πιειν πασα βοτανη ουχι ξηραινεται12 While it is yet green and uncut, it withers quicker than any grass.
ουτως τοινυν εσται τα εσχατα παντων των επιλανθανομενων του κυριου ελπις γαρ ασεβους απολειται13 So is the end of everyone who forgets God, and so shall the hope of the godless man perish.
αοικητος γαρ αυτου εσται ο οικος αραχνη δε αυτου αποβησεται η σκηνη14 His confidence is but a gossamer thread and his trust is a spider's web.
εαν υπερειση την οικιαν αυτου ου μη στη επιλαβομενου δε αυτου ου μη υπομεινη15 He shall rely upon his family, but it shall not last; he shall cling to it, but it shall not endure.
υγρος γαρ εστιν υπο ηλιου και εκ σαπριας αυτου ο ραδαμνος αυτου εξελευσεται16 He is full of sap before sunrise, and beyond his garden his shoots go forth;
επι συναγωγην λιθων κοιμαται εν δε μεσω χαλικων ζησεται17 About a heap of stones are his roots entwined; among the rocks he takes hold.
εαν καταπιη ο τοπος ψευσεται αυτον ουχ εορακας τοιαυτα18 Yet if one tears him from his place, it will disown him: "I have never seen you!"
οτι καταστροφη ασεβους τοιαυτη εκ δε γης αλλον αναβλαστησει19 There he lies rotting beside the road, and out of the soil another sprouts.
ο γαρ κυριος ου μη αποποιησηται τον ακακον παν δε δωρον ασεβους ου δεξεται20 Behold, God will not cast away the upright; neither will he take the hand of the wicked.
αληθινων δε στομα εμπλησει γελωτος τα δε χειλη αυτων εξομολογησεως21 Once more will he fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with rejoicing.
οι δε εχθροι αυτων ενδυσονται αισχυνην διαιτα δε ασεβους ουκ εσται22 They that hate you shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked shall be no more.
