JERUSALEM	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 N'ayant, en effet, que l'ombre des biens à venir, non la substance même des réalités, la Loi estabsolument impuissante, avec ces sacrifices, toujours les mêmes, que l'on offre perpétuellement d'année enannée, à rendre parfaits ceux qui s'approchent de Dieu.	1 For the law having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things; by the selfsame sacrifices which they offer continually every year, can never make the comers thereunto perfect:
2 Autrement, n'aurait-on pas cessé de les offrir puisque les officiants de ce culte, purifiés une foispour toutes, n'auraient plus conscience d'aucun péché?	2 For then they would have ceased to be offered: because the worshippers once cleansed should have no conscience of sin any longer:
3 Bien au contraire, par ces sacrifices eux-mêmes, on rappelle chaque année le souvenir des péchés.	3 But in them there is made a commemoration of sins every year.
4 En effet, du sang de taureaux et de boucs est impuissant à enlever des péchés.	4 For it is impossible that with the blood of oxen and goats sin should be taken away.
5 C'est pourquoi, en entrant dans le monde, le Christ dit: Tu n'as voulu ni sacrifice ni oblation; maistu m'as façonné un corps.	5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith: Sacrifice and oblation thou wouldest not: but a body thou hast fitted to me:
6 Tu n'as agréé ni holocaustes ni sacrifices pour les péchés.	6 Holocausts for sin did not please thee.
7 Alors j'ai dit: Voici, je viens, car c'est de moi qu'il est question dans le rouleau du livre, pour faire,ô Dieu, ta volonté.	7 Then said I: Behold I come: in the head of the book it is written of me: that I should do thy will, O God.
8 Il commence par dire: Sacrifices, oblations, holocaustes, sacrifices pour les péchés, tu ne les aspas voulus ni agréés - et cependant ils sont offerts d'après la Loi --,	8 In saying before, Sacrifices, and oblations, and holocausts for sin thou wouldest not, neither are they pleasing to thee, which are offered according to the law.
9 alors il déclare: Voici, je viens pour faire ta volonté. Il abroge le premier régime pour fonder lesecond.	9 Then said I: Behold, I come to do thy will, O God: he taketh away the first, that he may establish that which followeth.
10 Et c'est en vertu de cette volonté que nous sommes sanctifiés par l'oblation du corps de JésusChrist, une fois pour toutes.	10 In the which will, we are sanctified by the oblation of the body of Jesus Christ once.
11 Tandis que tout prêtre se tient debout chaque jour, officiant et offrant maintes fois les mêmessacrifices, qui sont absolument impuissants à enlever des péchés,	11 And every priest indeed standeth daily ministering, and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 lui au contraire, ayant offert pour les péchés un unique sacrifice, il s'est assis pour toujours à ladroite de Dieu,	12 But this man offering one sacrifice for sins, for ever sitteth on the right hand of God,
13 attendant désormais que ses ennemis soient placés comme un escabeau sous ses pieds.	13 From henceforth expecting, until his enemies be made his footstool.
14 Car par une oblation unique il a rendu parfaits pour toujours ceux qu'il sanctifie.	14 For by one oblation he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
15 Or l'Esprit Saint lui aussi nous l'atteste; car après avoir déclaré:	15 And the Holy Ghost also doth testify this to us. For after that he said:
16 Telle est l'alliance que je contracterai avec eux après ces jours-là, le Seigneur dit: Je mettrai meslois dans leur coeur et je les graverai dans leur pensée.	16 And this is the testament which I will make unto them after those days, saith the Lord. I will give my laws in their hearts, and on their minds will I write them:
17 Ni de leurs péchés, ni de leurs offenses, je ne me souviendrai plus.	17 And their sins and iniquities I will remember no more.
18 Or là où les péchés sont remis, il n'y a plus d'oblation pour le péché.	18 Now where there is a remission of these, there is no more an oblation for sin.
19 Ayant donc, frères, l'assurance voulue pour l'accès au sanctuaire par le sang de Jésus,	19 Having therefore, brethren, a confidence in the entering into the holies by the blood of Christ;
20 par cette voie qu'il a inaugurée pour nous, récente et vivante, à travers le voile - c'est-à-dire sachair --,	20 A new and living way which he hath dedicated for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh,
21 et un prêtre souverain à la tête de la maison de Dieu,	21 And a high priest over the house of God:
22 approchons-nous avec un coeur sincère, dans la plénitude de la foi, les coeurs nettoyés de toutesles souillures d'une conscience mauvaise et le corps lavé d'une eau pure.	22 Let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with clean water.
23 Gardons indéfectible la confession de l'espérance, car celui qui a promis est fidèle,	23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that hath promised),
24 et faisons attention les uns aux autres pour nous stimuler dans la charité et les oeuvres bonnes;	24 And let us consider one another, to provoke unto charity and to good works:
25 ne désertez pas votre propre assemblée, comme quelques-uns ont coutume de le faire, maisencouragez-vous mutuellement, et d'autant plus que vous voyez approcher le Jour.	25 Not forsaking our assembly, as some are accustomed; but comforting one another, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.
26 Car si nous péchons volontairement, après avoir reçu la connaissance de la vérité, il n'y a plus desacrifice pour les péchés.	26 For if we sin wilfully after having the knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins,
27 Il y a, au contraire, une perspective redoutable, celle du jugement et d'un courroux de feu quidoit dévorer les rebelles.	27 But a certain dreadful expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire which shall consume the adversaries.
28 Quelqu'un rejette-t-il la Loi de Moïse? Impitoyablement il est mis à mort sur la déposition dedeux ou trois témoins.	28 A man making void the law of Moses, dieth without any mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 D'un châtiment combien plus grave sera jugé digne, ne pensez-vous pas, celui qui aura foulé auxpieds le Fils de Dieu, tenu pour profane le sang de l'alliance dans lequel il a été sanctifié, et outragé l'Esprit de lagrâce?	29 How much more, do you think he deserveth worse punishments, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath esteemed the blood of the testament unclean, by which he was sanctified, and hath offered an affront to the Spirit of grace?
30 Nous connaissons, en effet, celui qui a dit: A moi la vengeance. C'est moi qui rétribuerai. Etencore: Le Seigneur jugera son peuple.	30 For we know him that hath said: Vengeance belongeth to me, and I will repay. And again: The Lord shall judge his people.
31 Oh! chose effroyable que de tomber aux mains du Dieu vivant!	31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 Mais rappelez-vous ces premiers jours, où après avoir été illuminés, vous avez soutenu un grandassaut de souffrances,	32 But call to mind the former days, wherein, being illuminated, you endured a great fight of afflictions.
33 tantôt exposés publiquement aux opprobres et aux tribulations, tantôt vous rendant solidaires deceux qui étaient ainsi traités.	33 And on the one hand indeed, by reproaches and tribulations, were made a gazingstock; and on the other, became companions of them that were used in such sort.
34 Et, en effet, vous avez pris part aux souffrances des prisonniers; vous avez accepté avec joie laspoliation de vos biens, sachant que vous étiez en possession d'une richesse meilleure et stable.	34 For you both had compassion on them that were in bands, and took with joy the being stripped of your own goods, knowing that you have a better and a lasting substance.
35 Ne perdez donc pas votre assurance; elle a une grande et juste récompense.	35 Do not therefore lose your confidence, which hath a great reward.
36 Vous avez besoin de constance, pour que, après avoir accompli la volonté de Dieu, vousbénéficiiez de la promesse.	36 For patience is necessary for you; that, doing the will of God, you may receive the promise.
37 Car encore un peu, bien peu de temps, Celui qui vient arrivera et il ne tardera pas.	37 For yet a little and a very little while, and he that is to come, will come, and will not delay.
38 Or mon juste vivra par la foi; et s'il se dérobe, mon âme ne se complaira pas en lui.	38 But my just man liveth by faith; but if he withdraw himself, he shall not please my soul.
39 Pour nous, nous ne sommes pas des hommes de dérobade pour la perdition, mais des hommes defoi pour la sauvegarde de notre âme.	39 But we are not the children of withdrawing unto perdition, but of faith to the saving of the soul.
