Épître aux Galates 5

JERUSALEM	NEW JERUSALEM
1 C'est pour que nous restions libres que le Christ nous a libérés. Donc tenez bon et ne vous remettezpas sous le joug de l'esclavage.	1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.
2 C'est moi, Paul, qui vous le dis: si vous vous faites circoncire, le Christ ne vous servira de rien.	2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .
3 De nouveau je l'atteste à tout homme qui se fait circoncire: il est tenu à l'observance intégrale de laLoi.	3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;
4 Vous avez rompu avec le Christ, vous qui cherchez la justice dans la Loi; vous êtes déchus de lagrâce.	4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.
5 Car pour nous, c'est l'Esprit qui nous fait attendre de la foi les biens qu'espère la justice.	5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,
6 En effet, dans le Christ Jésus ni circoncision ni incirconcision ne comptent, mais seulement la foiopérant par la charité.	6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.
7 Votre course partait bien; qui a entravé votre élan de soumission à la vérité?	7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?
8 Cette suggestion ne vient pas de Celui qui vous appelle.	8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!
9 Un peu de levain fait lever toute la pâte.	9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.
10 Pour moi, j'ai confiance qu'unis dans le Seigneur vous n'aurez pas d'autre sentiment; mais qui voustrouble subira sa condamnation, quel qu'il soit.	10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.
11 Quant à moi, frères, si je prêche encore la circoncision, pourquoi suis-je encore persécuté? C'en estdonc fini du scandale de la croix!	11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.
12 Qu'ils aillent jusqu'à la mutilation, ceux qui bouleversent vos âmes!	12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.
13 Vous en effet, mes frères, vous avez été appelés à la liberté; seulement, que cette liberté ne setourne pas en prétexte pour la chair; mais par la charité mettez-vous au service les uns des autres.	13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,
14 Car une seule formule contient toute la Loi en sa plénitude: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.	14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.
15 Mais si vous vous mordez et vous dévorez les uns les autres, prenez garde que vous allez vousentre-détruire.	15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.
16 Or je dis: laissez-vous mener par l'Esprit et vous ne risquerez pas de satisfaire la convoitisecharnelle.	16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.
17 Car la chair convoite contre l'esprit et l'esprit contre la chair; il y a entre eux antagonisme, si bienque vous ne faites pas ce que vous voudriez.	17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.
18 Mais si l'Esprit vous anime, vous n'êtes pas sous la Loi.	18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
19 Or on sait bien tout ce que produit la chair: fornication, impureté, débauche,	19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,
20 idolâtrie, magie, haines, discorde, jalousie, emportements, disputes, dissensions, scissions,	20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,
21 sentiments d'envie, orgies, ripailles et choses semblables - et je vous préviens, comme je l'ai déjàfait, que ceux qui commettent ces fautes-là n'hériteront pas du Royaume de Dieu. --	21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 Mais le fruit de l'Esprit est charité, joie, paix, longanimité, serviabilité, bonté, confiance dans lesautres,	22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,
23 douceur, maîtrise de soi: contre de telles choses il n'y a pas de loi.	23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.
24 Or ceux qui appartiennent au Christ Jésus ont crucifié la chair avec ses passions et ses convoitises.	24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.
25 Puisque l'Esprit est notre vie, que l'Esprit nous fasse aussi agir.	25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit
26 Ne cherchons pas la vaine gloire, en nous provoquant les uns les autres, en nous enviantmutuellement.	26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.
