| 4 donne-moi celle qui partage ton trône, la Sagesse, et ne me rejette pas du nombre de tes enfants. | 4 give me the wisdom that sits by thy throne, and do not reject me from among thy servants. |
| 5 Car je suis ton serviteur et le fils de ta servante, un homme faible et de vie éphémère, peu apte àcomprendre la justice et les lois. | 5 For I am thy slave and the son of thy maidservant, a man who is weak and short-lived, with little understanding of judgment and laws; |
| 6 Quelqu'un, en effet, serait-il parfait parmi les fils des hommes, s'il lui manque la sagesse qui vientde toi, on le comptera pour rien. | 6 for even if one is perfect among the sons of men, yet without the wisdom that comes from thee he will be regarded as nothing. |
| 7 C'est toi qui m'as choisi pour roi de ton peuple et pour juge de tes fils et de tes filles. | 7 Thou hast chosen me to be king of thy people and to be judge over thy sons and daughters. |
| 8 Tu m'as ordonné de bâtir un Temple sur ta montagne sainte, et un autel dans la ville où tu as fixé tatente, imitation de la Tente sainte que tu as préparée dès l'origine. | 8 Thou hast given command to build a temple on thy holy mountain, and an altar in the city of thy habitation, a copy of the holy tent which thou didst prepare from the beginning. |
| 9 Avec toi est la Sagesse, qui connaît tes oeuvres et qui était présente quand tu faisais le monde; ellesait ce qui est agréable à tes yeux et ce qui est conforme à tes commandements. | 9 With thee is wisdom, who knows thy works and was present when thou didst make the world, and who understand what is pleasing in thy sight and what is right according to thy commandments. |
| 10 Mande-la des cieux saints, de ton trône de gloire envoie-la, pour qu'elle me seconde et peine avecmoi, et que je sache ce qui te plaît; | 10 Send her forth from the holy heavens, and from the throne of thy glory send her, that she may be with me and toil, and that I may learn what is pleasing to thee. |
| 11 car elle sait et comprend tout. Elle me guidera prudemment dans mes actions et me protégera parsa gloire. | 11 For she knows and understands all things, and she will guide me wisely in my actions and guard me with her glory. |
| 12 Alors mes oeuvres seront agréées, je jugerai ton peuple avec justice et je serai digne du trône demon père. | 12 Then my works will be acceptable, and I shall judge thy people justly, and shall be worthy of the throne of my father. |
| 13 Quel homme en effet peut connaître le dessein de Dieu, et qui peut concevoir ce que veut leSeigneur? | 13 For what man can learn the counsel of God? Or who can discern what the Lord wills? |
| 14 Car les pensées des mortels sont timides, et instables nos réflexions; | 14 For the reasoning of mortals is worthless, and our designs are likely to fail, |
| 15 un corps corruptible, en effet, appesantit l'âme, et cette tente d'argile alourdit l'esprit aux multiplessoucis. | 15 for a perishable body weighs down the soul, and this earthy tent burdens the thoughtful mind. |
| 16 Nous avons peine à conjecturer ce qui est sur la terre, et ce qui est à notre portée nous ne letrouvons qu'avec effort, mais ce qui est dans les cieux, qui l'a découvert? | 16 We can hardly guess at what is on earth, and what is at hand we find with labor; but who has traced out what is in the heavens? |
| 17 Et ta volonté, qui l'a connue, sans que tu aies donné la Sagesse et envoyé d'en haut ton esprit saint? | 17 Who has learned thy counsel, unless thou hast given wisdom and sent thy holy Spirit from on high? |
| 18 Ainsi ont été rendus droits les sentiers de ceux qui sont sur la terre, ainsi les hommes ont étéinstruits de ce qui te plaît et, par la Sagesse, ont été sauvés." | 18 And thus the paths of those on earth were set right, and men were taught what pleases thee, and were saved by wisdom." |
