1 Elle s'étend avec force d'un bout du monde à l'autre et elle gouverne l'univers pour son bien.	1 Wisdom reacheth from one end to another mightily: and sweetly doth she order all things.
2 C'est elle que j'ai chérie et recherchée dès ma jeunesse; j'ai cherché à la prendre pour épouse et jesuis devenu amoureux de sa beauté.	2 I loved her, and sought her out from my youth, I desired to make her my spouse, and I was a lover of her beauty.
3 Elle fait éclater sa noble origine en vivant avec Dieu, car le maître de tout l'a aimée.	3 In that she is conversant with God, she magnifieth her nobility: yea, the Lord of all things himself loved her.
4 Elle est, de fait, initiée à la science de Dieu et c'est elle qui choisit ses oeuvres.	4 For she is privy to the mysteries of the knowledge of God, and a lover of his works.
5 Si, dans la vie, la richesse est un bien désirable, quoi de plus riche que la Sagesse, qui opère tout?	5 If riches be a possession to be desired in this life; what is richer than wisdom, that worketh all things?
6 Et si c'est l'intelligence qui opère, qui est plus qu'elle l'ouvrière de ce qui est?	6 And if prudence work; who of all that are is a more cunning workman than she?
7 Aime-t-on la justice? Ses labeurs, ce sont les vertus, elle enseigne, en effet, tempérance et prudence,justice et force; ce qu'il y a de plus utile pour les hommes dans la vie.	7 And if a man love righteousness her labours are virtues: for she teacheth temperance and prudence, justice and fortitude: which are such things, as en can have nothing more profitable in their life.
8 Désire-t-on encore un savoir étendu? Elle connaît le passé et conjecture l'avenir, elle sait l'art detourner les maximes et de résoudre les énigmes, les signes et les prodiges, elle les sait d'avance, ainsi que lasuccession des époques et des temps.	8 If a man desire much experience, she knoweth things of old, and conjectureth aright what is to come: she knoweth the subtilties of speeches, and can expound dark sentences: she foreseeth signs and wonders, and the events of seasons and times.
9 Je décidai donc de la prendre pour compagne de ma vie, sachant qu'elle me serait une conseillèrepour le bien, et un encouragement dans les soucis et la tristesse:	9 Therefore I purposed to take her to me to live with me, knowing that she would be a counsellor of good things, and a comfort in cares and grief.
10 "J'aurai à cause d'elle gloire parmi les foules et, bien que jeune, honneur auprès des vieillards.	10 For her sake I shall have estimation among the multitude, and honour with the elders, though I be young.
11 On me trouvera pénétrant dans le jugement et en présence des grands je serai admiré.	11 I shall be found of a quick conceit in judgment, and shall be admired in the sight of great men.
12 Si je me tais, ils m'attendront, si je parle, ils seront attentifs, si je prolonge mon discours, ilsmettront la main sur leur bouche.	12 When I hold my tongue, they shall bide my leisure, and when I speak, they shall give good ear unto me: if I talk much, they shall lay their hands upon their mouth.
13 J'aurai à cause d'elle l'immortalité et je laisserai un souvenir éternel à ceux qui viendront aprèsmoi.	13 Moreover by the means of her I shall obtain immortality, and leave behind me an everlasting memorial to them that come after me.
14 Je gouvernerai des peuples, et des nations me seront soumises.	14 I shall set the people in order, and the nations shall be subject unto me.
15 En entendant parler de moi, des souverains terribles auront peur; je me montrerai bon avec lamultitude et vaillant à la guerre.	15 Horrible tyrants shall be afraid, when they do but hear of me; I shall be found good among the multitude, and valiant in war.
16 Rentré dans ma maison, je me reposerai auprès d'elle; car sa société ne cause pas d'amertume, nison commerce de peine, mais du plaisir et de la joie."	16 After I am come into mine house, I will repose myself with her: for her conversation hath no bitterness; and to live with her hath no sorrow, but mirth and joy.
17 Ayant médité cela en moi-même, et considéré en mon coeur que l'immortalité se trouve dans laparenté avec la Sagesse,	17 Now when I considered these things in myself, and pondered them in my heart, how that to be allied unto wisdom is immortality;
18 dans son amitié une noble jouissance, dans les travaux de ses mains une richesse inépuisable, danssa fréquentation assidue l'intelligence, et la renommée à s'entretenir avec elle, j'allais de tous côtés, cherchantcomment l'obtenir pour moi.	18 And great pleasure it is to have her friendship; and in the works of her hands are infinite riches; and in the exercise of conference with her, prudence; and in talking with her, a good report; I went about seeking how to take her to me.
19 J'étais un enfant d'un heureux naturel, et j'avais reçu en partage une âme bonne,	19 For I was a witty child, and had a good spirit.
20 ou plutôt, étant bon, j'étais venu dans un corps sans souillure;	20 Yea rather, being good, I came into a body undefiled.
21 mais, comprenant que je ne pourrais devenir possesseur de la Sagesse que si Dieu me la donnait, --et c'était déjà de l'intelligence que de savoir de qui vient cette faveur -- je m'adressai au Seigneur et le priai, et jedis de tout mon coeur:	21 Nevertheless, when I perceived that I could not otherwise obtain her, except God gave her me; and that was a point of wisdom also to know whose gift she was; I prayed unto the Lord, and besought him, and with my whole heart I said,
