1 Unto the end, destroy not, for David, for an inscription of a title.	1 [Für den Chormeister. Nach der Weise «Zerstöre nicht!». Ein Lied Davids.]
2 If in very deed you speak justice: judge right things, ye sons of men.	2 Sprecht ihr wirklich Recht, ihr Mächtigen? Richtet ihr die Menschen gerecht?
3 For in your heart you work iniquity: your hands forge injustice in the earth.	3 Nein, ihr schaltet im Land nach Willkür, euer Herz ist voll Bosheit; eure Hände bahnen dem Unrecht den Weg.
4 The wicked are alienated from the womb; they have gone astray from the womb: they have spoken false things.	4 Vom Mutterschoß an sind die Frevler treulos, von Geburt an irren sie vom Weg ab und lügen.
5 Their madness is according to the likeness of a serpent: like the deaf asp that stoppeth her ears:	5 Ihr Gift ist wie das Gift der Schlange, wie das Gift der tauben Natter, die ihr Ohr verschließt,
6 Which will not hear the voice of the charmers; nor of the wizard that charmeth wisely.	6 die nicht auf die Stimme des Beschwörers hört, der sich auf Zaubersprüche versteht.
7 God shall break in pieces their teeth in their mouth: the Lord shall break the grinders of the lions.	7 O Gott, zerbrich ihnen die Zähne im Mund! Zerschlage, Herr, das Gebiss der Löwen!
8 They shall come to nothing, like water running down; he hath bent his bow till they be weakened.	8 Sie sollen vergehen wie verrinnendes Wasser, wie Gras, das verwelkt auf dem Weg,
9 Like wax that melteth they shall be taken away: fire hath fallen on them, and they shall not see the sun.	9 wie die Schnecke, die sich auflöst in Schleim; wie eine Fehlgeburt sollen sie die Sonne nicht schauen.
10 Before your thorns could know the brier; he swalloweth them up, as alive, in his wrath.	10 Ehe eure Töpfe das Feuer des Dornstrauchs spüren, fege Gott die Feinde hinweg, ob frisch, ob verdorrt.
11 The just shall rejoice when he shall see the revenge: he shall wash his hands in the blood of the sinner.	11 Wenn er die Vergeltung sieht, freut sich der Gerechte; er badet seine Füße im Blut des Frevlers.
12 And man shall say: If indeed there be fruit to the just: there is indeed a God that judgeth them on the earth.	12 Dann sagen die Menschen: «Der Gerechte erhält seinen Lohn; es gibt einen Gott, der auf Erden Gericht hält.»
