1 Corintios 14

1 Buscad la caridad; pero aspirad también a los dones espirituales, especialmente a la profecía.	1 Pursue charity. Be zealous for spiritual things, but only so that you may prophesy.
2 Pues el que habla en lengua no habla a los hombres sino a Dios. En efecto, nadie le entiende: dice en espíritu cosas misteriosas.	2 For whoever speaks in tongues, speaks not to men, but to God. For no one understands. Yet by the Spirit, he speaks mysteries.
3 Por el contrario, el que profetiza, habla a los hombres para su edificación, exhortación y consolación.	3 But whoever prophesies speaks to men for edification and exhortation and consolation.
4 El que habla en lengua, se edifica a sí mismo; el que profetiza, edifica a toda la asamblea.	4 Whoever speaks in tongues edifies himself. But whoever prophesies edifies the Church.
5 Deseo que habléis todos en lenguas; prefiero, sin embargo, que profeticéis. Pues el que profetiza, supera al que habla en lenguas, a no ser que también interprete, para que la asamblea reciba edificación.	5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but more so to prophesy. For he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks in tongues, unless perhaps he interprets, so that the Church may receive edification.
6 Y ahora, hermanos, supongamos que yo vaya donde vosotros hablándoos en lenguas, ¿qué os aprovecharía yo, si mi palabra no os trajese ni revelación ni ciencia ni profecía ni enseñanza?	6 But now, brothers, if I were to come to you speaking in tongues, how would it benefit you, unless instead I speak to you in revelation, or in knowledge, or in prophecy, or in doctrine?
7 Así sucede con los instrumentos de música inanimados, tales como la flauta o la cítara. Si no dan distintamente los sonidos, ¿cómo se conocerá lo que toca la flauta o la cítara?	7 Even those things that are without a soul can make sounds, whether it is a wind or a stringed instrument. But unless they present a distinction within the sounds, how will it be known which is from the pipe and which is from the string?
8 Y si la trompeta no da sino un sonido confuso, ¿quién se preparará para la batalla?	8 For example, if the trumpet made an uncertain sound, who would prepare himself for battle?
9 Así también vosotros: si al hablar no pronunciáis palabras inteligibles, ¿cómo se entenderá lo que decís? Es como si hablarais al viento.	9 So it is with you also, for unless you utter with the tongue in plain speech, how will it be known what is said? For then you would be speaking into the air.
10 Hay en el mundo no sé cuántas variedades de lenguas, y nada hay sin lenguaje.	10 Consider that there are so many different kinds of languages in this world, and yet none is without a voice.
11 Mas si yo desconozco el valor del lenguaje seré un bárbaro para el que me habla; y el que me habla, un bárbaro para mí.	11 Therefore, if I do not understand the nature of the voice, then I shall be like a foreigner to the one with whom I am speaking; and he who is speaking will be like a foreigner to me.
12 Así pues, ya que aspiráis a los dones espirituales, procurad abundar en ellos para la edificación de la asamblea.	12 So it is with you also. And since you are zealous for what is spiritual, seek the edification of the Church, so that you may abound.
13 Por tanto, el que habla en lengua, pida el don de interpretar.	13 For this reason, too, whoever speaks in tongues, let him pray for the interpretation.
14 Porque si oro en lengua, mi espíritu ora, pero mi mente queda sin fruto.	14 So, if I pray in tongues, my spirit prays, but my mind is without fruit.
15 Entonces, ¿qué hacer? Oraré con el espíritu, pero oraré también con la mente. Cantaré salmos con el espíritu, pero también los cantaré con la mente.	15 What is next? I should pray with the spirit, and also pray with the mind. I should sing psalms with the spirit, and also recite psalms with the mind.
16 Porque si no bendices más que con el espíritu ¿cómo dirá «amén» a tu acción de gracias el que ocupa el lugar del no iniciado, pues no sabe lo que dices?	16 Otherwise, if you have blessed only with the spirit, how can someone, in a state of ignorance, add an “Amen” to your blessing? For he does not know what you are saying.
17 ¡Cierto!, tu acción de gracias es excelente; pero el otro no se edifica.	17 In this case, certainly, you give thanks well, but the other person is not edified.
18 Doy gracias a Dios porque hablo en lenguas más que todos vosotros;	18 I thank my God that I speak in tongues for all of you.
19 pero en la asamblea, prefiero decir cinco palabras con mi mente, para instruir a los demás, que 10.000 en lengua.	19 But in the Church, I prefer to speak five words from my mind, so that I may instruct others also, rather than ten thousand words in tongues.
20 Hermanos, no seáis niños en juicio. Sed niños en malicia, pero hombres maduros en juicio.	20 Brothers, do not choose to have the minds of children. Instead, be free of malice like infants, but be mature in your minds.
21 Está escrito en la Ley: Por hombres de lenguas extrañas y por boca de extraños hablaré yo a este pueblo, y ni así me escucharán, dice el Señor.	21 It is written in the law: “I will speak to this people with other tongues and other lips, and even so, they will not heed me, says the Lord.”
22 Así pues, las lenguas sirven de señal no para los creyentes, sino para los infieles; en cambio la profecía, no para los infieles, sino para los creyentes.	22 And so, tongues are a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers; and prophecies are not for unbelievers, but for believers.
23 Si, pues, se reúne toda la asamblea y todos hablan en lenguas y entran en ella no iniciados o infieles, ¿no dirán que estáis locos?	23 If then, the entire Church were to gather together as one, and if all were to speak in tongues, and then ignorant or unbelieving persons were to enter, would they not say that you were insane?
24 Por el contrario, si todos profetizan y entra un infiel o un no iniciado, será convencido por todos, juzgado por todos.	24 But if everyone prophesies, and one who is ignorant or unbelieving enters, he may be convinced by it all, because he understands it all.
25 Los secretos de su corazón quedarán al descubierto y, postrado rostro en tierra, adorará a Dios confesando que Dios está verdaderamente entre vosotros.	25 The secrets of his heart are then made manifest. And so, falling to his face, he would adore God, proclaiming that God is truly among you.
26 ¿Qué concluir, hermanos? Cuando os reunís, cada cual puede tener un salmo, una instrucción, una revelación, un discurso en lengua, una interpretación; pero que todo sea para edificación.	26 What is next, brothers? When you gather together, each one of you may have a psalm, or a doctrine, or a revelation, or a language, or an interpretation, but let everything be done for edification.
27 Si se habla en lengua, que hablen dos, o a lo más, tres, y por turno; y que haya un interprete.	27 If anyone is speaking in tongues, let there be only two, or at most three, and then in turn, and let someone interpret.
28 Si no hay quien interprete, guárdese silencio en la asamblea; hable cada cual consigo mismo y con Dios.	28 But if there is no one to interpret, he should remain silent in the church, then he may speak when he is alone with God.
29 En cuanto a los profetas, hablen dos o tres, y los demás juzguen.	29 And let the prophets speak, two or three, and let the others discern.
30 Si algún otro que está sentado tiene una revelación, cállese el primero.	30 But then, if something is revealed to another who is sitting, let the first one become silent.
31 Pues podéis profetizar todos por turno para que todos aprendan y sean exhortados.	31 For you are all able to prophesy one at a time, so that all may learn and all may be encouraged.
32 Los espíritus de los profetas están sometidos a los profetas,	32 For the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.
33 pues Dios no es un Dios de confusión, sino de paz. Como en todas la Iglesias de los santos,	33 And God is not of dissension, but of peace, just as I also teach in all the churches of the saints.
34 las mujeres cállense en las asambleas; que no les está permitido tomar la palabra antes bien, estén sumisas como también la Ley lo dice.	34 Women should be silent in the churches. For it is not permitted for them to speak; but instead, they should be subordinate, as the law also says.
35 Si quieren aprender algo, pregúntenlo a sus propios maridos en casa; pues es indecoroso que la mujer hable en la asamblea.	35 And if they want to learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in church.
36 ¿Acaso ha salido de vosotros la palabra de Dios? O ¿solamente a vosotros ha llegado?	36 So now, did the Word of God proceed from you? Or was it sent to you alone?
37 Si alguien se cree profeta o inspirado por el Espíritu, reconozca en lo que os escribo un mandato del Señor.	37 If anyone seems to be a prophet or a spiritual person, he should understand these things which I am writing to you, that these things are the commandments of the Lord.
38 Si no lo conoce, tampoco él es conocido.	38 If anyone does not recognize these things, he should not be recognized.
39 Por tanto, hermanos, aspirad al don de la profecía, y no estorbéis que se hable en lenguas.	39 And so, brothers, be zealous to prophesy, and do not prohibit speaking in tongues.
40 Pero hágase todo con decoro y orden.	40 But let everything be done respectfully and according to proper order.
