Eclesiastés/Qohelet 6

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Hay otro mal que observo bajo el sol, y que pesa sobre el hombre:	1 I see another evil under the sun, which goes hard with people:
2 Un hombre a quien Dios da riquezas, tesoros y honores; nada le falta de lo que desea, pero Dios no le deja disfrutar de ello, porque un extraño lo disfruta. Esto es vanidad y gran desgracia.	2 suppose someone has received from God riches, property, honours -- nothing at al left to wish for; butGod does not give the chance to enjoy them, and some stranger enjoys them. This is futile, and grievoussuffering too.
3 Si alguno que tiene cien hijos y vive muchos años, y por muchos que sean sus años, no se sacia su alma de felicidad y ni siquiera halla sepultura, entonces yo digo: Más feliz es un aborto,	3 Or take someone who has had a hundred children and lived for many years, and, having reached oldage, has never enjoyed the good things of life and has not even got a tomb; it seems to me, a still-born child ishappier.
4 pues, entre vanidades vino y en la oscuridad se va; mientras su nombre queda oculto en las tinieblas.	4 In futility it came, into darkness it departs, and in darkness will its name be buried.
5 No ha visto el sol, no lo ha conocido, y ha tenido más descanso que el otro.	5 It has never so much as seen or known the sun; al the same, it wil rest more easily than that person,
6 Y aunque hubiera vivido por dos veces mil años, pero sin gustar la felicidad, ¿no caminan acaso todos al mismo lugar?	6 who would never have known the good things of life, even by living a thousand years twice over. Do wenot al go to the same place in the end?
7 Todo el mundo se fatiga para comer, y a pesar de todo nunca se harta.	7 Al toil is for the mouth, yet the appetite is never satisfied.
8 ¿En qué supera el sabio al necio? ¿En qué, al pobre que sabe vivir su vida?	8 What advantage has the wise over the fool? And what of the pauper who knows how to behave insociety?
9 Mejor es lo que los ojos ven que lo que el alma desea. También esto es vanidad y atrapar vientos.	9 Better the object seen than the sting of desire: for the latter too is futile and chasing after the wind.
10 De lo que existe, ya se anunció su nombre, y se sabe lo que es un hombre: no puede litigar con quien es más fuerte que él.	10 What has been is already defined -- we know what people are: They cannot bring to justice one who isstronger than themselves.
11 A más palabras, más vanidades. ¿Qué provecho saca el hombre?	11 The more we say, the more futile it is: what good can we derive from it?
12 Porque, ¿quién sabe lo que conviene al hombre en su vida, durante los días contados de su vano vivir, que él los vive como una sombra? Pues ¿quién indicará al hombre lo que sucederá después de él bajo el sol?	12 And who knows what is best for someone during life, during the days of futile life which are spent like ashadow? Who can tel anyone what wil happen after him under the sun?
