Eclesiastés/Qohelet 5

BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 No te precipites a hablar, ni tu corazón se apresure a pronunciar una palabra ante Dios. Pues Dios está en el cielo, pero tú en la tierra: sean por tanto pocas tus palabras.	1 Be not hasty in your utterance and let not your heart be quick to make a promise in God's presence. God is in heaven and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few.
2 Porque, los sueños vienen de las muchas tareas. la voz necia, de las muchas palabras.	2 For nightmares come with many cares, and a fool's utterance with many words.
3 Si haces voto a Dios, no tardes en cumplirlo; pues no le agradan los necios. El voto que has hecho, cúmplelo.	3 When you make a vow to God, delay not its fulfillment. For God has no pleasure in fools; fulfill what you have vowed.
4 Es mejor no hacer votos que hacerlos y no cumplirlos.	4 You had better not make a vow than make it and not fulfill it.
5 No permitas que tu boca haga de ti un pecador, y luego digas ante el Mensajero que fue inadvertencia. ¿Por qué deberá Dios irritarse por tu palabra y destruir la obra de tus manos?	5 Let not your utterances make you guilty, and say not before his representative, "It was a mistake," lest God be angered by such words and destroy the works of your hands.
6 Cuantos los sueños, tantas las vanidades y las muchas palabras. Pero tú teme a Dios.	6 Rather, fear God!
7 Si en la región ves la opresión del pobre y la violación del derecho y de la justicia, no te asombres por eso. Se te dirá que una dignidad vigila sobre otra dignidad, y otra más dignas sobre ambas.	7 If you see oppression of the poor, and violation of rights and justice in the realm, do not be shocked by the fact, for the high official has another higher than he watching him and above these are others higher still--.
8 Se invocará el interés común y el servicio del rey.	8 Yet an advantage for a country in every respect is a king for the arable land.
9 Quien ama el dinero, no se harta de él, y para quien ama riquezas, no bastas ganancias. También esto es vanidad.	9 The covetous man is never satisfied with money, and the lover of wealth reaps no fruit from it; so this too is vanity.
10 A muchos bienes, muchos que los devoren; y ¿de qué más sirven a su dueño que de espectáculo para sus ojos?	10 Where there are great riches, there are also many to devour them. Of what use are they to the owner except to feast his eyes upon?
11 Dulce el sueño del obrero, coma poco o coma mucho; pero al rico la hartura no le deja dormir.	11 Sleep is sweet to the laboring man, whether he eats little or much, but the rich man's abundance allows him no sleep.
12 Hay un grave mal que yo he visto bajo el sol: riqueza guardada para su dueño, y que solo sirve para su mal,	12 This is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: riches kept by their owner to his hurt.
13 pues las riquezas perecen en un mal negocio, y cuando engendra un hijo, nada queda ya en su mano.	13 Should the riches be lost through some misfortune, he may have a son when he is without means.
14 Como salió del vientre de su madre, desnudo volverá, como ha venido; y nada podrá sacar de sus fatigas que pueda llevar en la mano.	14 As he came forth from his mother's womb, so again shall he depart, naked as he came, having nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand.
15 También esto es grave mal: que tal como vino, se vaya; y ¿de qué le vale el fatigarse para el viento?	15 This too is a grievous evil, that he goes just as he came. What then does it profit him to toil for wind?
16 Todos los días pasa en oscuridad, pena, fastidio, enfermedad y rabia.	16 All the days of his life are passed in gloom and sorrow, under great vexation, sickness and wrath.
17 Esto he experimentado: lo mejor para el hombre es comer, beber y disfrutar en todos sus fatigosos afanes bajo el sol, en los contados días de la vida que Dios le da; porque esta es su paga.	17 Here is what I recognize as good: it is well for a man to eat and drink and enjoy all the fruits of his labor under the sun during the limited days of the life which God gives him; for this is his lot.
18 Y además: cuando a cualquier hombre Dios da riquezas y tesoros, le deja disfrutar de ellos, tomar su paga y holgarse en medio de sus fatigas, esto es un don de Dios.	18 Any man to whom God gives riches and property, and grants power to partake of them, so that he receives his lot and finds joy in the fruits of his toil, has a gift from God.
19 Porque así no recuerda mucho los días de su vida, mientras Dios le llena de alegría el corazón.	19 For he will hardly dwell on the shortness of his life, because God lets him busy himself with the joy of his heart.
